So I'm back on the track again. Miss me?
This is a commission I've spent four days - with some pet help I believe - to finally complete. I was able to try some other techniques, but ended up forgetting to record some parts. The good part is, well, the video went shorter than ever. This is something good, isn't it?
This is the first commision I went away from the default 4:3 aspect ratio I used to make. Client asked me to follow this internal 8:7 SNES format as the final look to the Overworld Map from The Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past's Light World.
I gotta say: that one was HARD to finish. Ended up cutting places that wasn't even necessary, making me patch it out later on, got an awesome idea of putting negative depth to the waters and almost forgot to put the gloss coating on it by the end of the assembly.
I used thick wood this time and I'm not very happy how heavy the piece became. I fear it might fall from the wall if not fixed properly. Thing got almost 6 pounds! Anyway, being a nitpicky person is not a good trait, yet I'm quite satisfied with the final result. To get in the mood I revisited the game, having finished the game and saved Hyrule once again.

Hi, I'm busy on commissions yet, but the intention is to have tutorials on the next months. If you're eager to try it without much info and explanations on hie to do it, you can always try the Discord server (invite on the YT channel, on the upper right if you're on a desktop). There we (me and a few people) shared some files for starters. Most are from Wuppes, the owner of 3D Paper Diorama. There you can get the idea of how folks do want stuff like that around and make their own.

You have some great videos. Many of us would love an extended, in depth tutorial from start to finish of how you creat these, materials, tools, photoshop or other program tips for editing, etc. please consider!

Thank you. All these are quite old by now. Meaning I don't use these techniques and materials anymore. Every handmade craft goes through some evolution/devolution, in time. Since it's not on my plans to become an actual youtuber or get any personal attention (the focus is will always be the work per se), I gave up on the idea of editing a more complex kind of video, explaining the process. To be honest tho, it could happen, as a prototype for the Discord community, to be thought and implemented, using a simpler theme, already covered by me on the channel, to see how things develop to actually make something good enough, to give some base to peoplr interested. But again, no experience on the process, not a simple task, probably would need a narration, since I wouldn't hold on much longer on spoken English language and I wouldn't make such demanding task only for brazilian people to enjoy it.

Felicidades compañero!! Es precioso. Soy de españa y aqui es dificil encontrar un papel "estandar" en las imprentas. Hay alguna recomendación en algun papel que sea facil de encontrar para la impresion?

Saludos! intente usar el papel más grueso que pueda encontrar. Aquí lo llaman supremo 300g y tiene un poco de brillo en un lado. La gramatura del papel debe ser más alta que el papel de impresión convencional o su pieza se doblará después de terminarla.

Samuel Alves E aí Samuel. Muito obrigado pelo elogio. Gostaria de seguir com mais frequência esse tipo de trabalho, mas nem sempre é possível. Quanto às molduras, eu mesmo as faço pois é bem complicado de achá-las na profundidade necessária e custos que não excedam o valor final da própria peça. Há algumas molduras simples no mercado que inicial em 80 reais e muitos clientes não fazem ideia de que é apenas por isso que o produto final tende a encarecer demais. Porém, minha intenção a médio prazo é adquirir molduras de qualidade maior e feitas em madeira. A moldura desse quadro do Zelda foi feita de maneira mista: madeira com revestimento e acabamento em papel Paraná impermeabilizado. Talvez o único contra de usar madeira seria o peso final da peça, que às vezes quase triplica em comparação com as molduras convencionais que produzo. Infelizmente isso apenas aumenta o valor final do frete, já que os Correios andam metendo a faca por qualquer coisa. Enfim, moldura ainda é um assunto não 100% definido nesse projeto e gostaria muito de sanar tais problemas, mas no geral, molduras são caríssimas, mundo afora, não apenas no Brasil.

@@rgbcrafts Opa, obrigado por responder. :) Dei uma olhada na tua loja, mas o frete pra cá saiu muito caro. Hehe Eu estava pensando em fazer um diorama/shadow box desses, claro, não no nível de detalhes desses que você faz, mas algo mais simples que tenha algum tipo de profundidade. Eu tinha pensado em utilizar como moldura aqueles quadros porta rolha que vende em lojas de decoração. Eles são baratos (na faixa de 40 a 50R$) e são mais profundos, daí bastava ir colando as camadas por cima do fundo que já vem com ele. Você utiliza que tipo de papel para a impressão dos sprites?

Faz sentido usar esse tipo de moldura que mencionou. Dá uma olhada no site da Kiaga. Ainda não confirmei, mas acredito que aceitam encomendas dando medidas para seu projeto. Sobre o frete, sim, está pela hora da morte. Eu tenho como repassar cupom de desconto sem qualquer problema na store, até incentiva a primeira comora, porém não anda tendo escapatória no valor do frete. Algumas cotações estão excedendo o valor do produto. Completamente surreal isso. Quanto ao tipo de papel que uso: já experimentei o couche brilho e couche fosco, ambos de alta gramatura. Cerca de 300g cada, mas confesso que o resultado não foi satisfatório o suficiente. Atualmente uso em minhas peças o papel supremo brilho, de 350g. O resultado final supera expectativas, embora tenha brilho e a incidência de luz possa dificultar percepção total da peça, mas esse tipo de papel realça a qualidade da impressão, suas cores, resolução e deixa pouquíssimo resíduo no corte. Ufa, por esses motivos todos eu não troco por nada. Talvez Vinil, quando se fizer necessário.

@@rgbcrafts esse papel supremo de 350gm vc encontra fácil ? outra duvida se consegue usar esse papel em uma impressora tipo a L805 da epson ? pois pelo que vi o máximo que aceita é de ate 240gm depois disso o tracionador começar a morrer pra puxar papeis de gramatura maior.

@@andriosmelo4379 Então, eu não uso impressora pra uso doméstico. A qualidade final difere muito e não compensa. Sendo assim, mesmo a Epson sendo uma ótima marca, que eu recomendo fortemente, especialmente essa série que mencionou, a diferença é muito grande. Sendo assim, tercerizo impressões, o que significa que a impressora usada é industrial. É até por isso que uso a gramatura maior, pois essas impressoras domésticas, digamos assim, não suportam essa gramatura.

Noite, Vinicius. Sempre uso impressão a laser rm papel de alta gramatura. Uso o chamado supremo 300g, o papel para cartão de visitas VIP. Não recomendo o papel fotográfico nem a impressão jato de tinta para quem busca iniciar no nicho e queira real qualidade de impressão e durabilidade da peça. Toda impressão jato de tinta esmaece com o passar do tempo, especialmente se deixar a luz solar incidir na peça. A impressão a laser de qualidade tende a ter maior proteção contra luz UV e raramente desbota.

Se busca informação mais detalhada e quer mesmo compreender sobre como projetas os seus sem cair na maioria dos erros cometidos no início, recomendo que tire um bom tempo para leitura aprofundada de cada etapa, compartilhada na comunidade do Discord. É material extenso, nada dado "na boquinha", nada pronto pra baixar, mas bastante elucidador para quem quer colocar a mão na massa.

Oh, that. The picture itself is not that good. I take pictures with a ordinary iPad, but I do try to use lighting from both sides to improve a little. The rest is pure Photoshop and Google.😜

Essa época eu não tinha padrões de moldura. Atualmente tenho os padrões 4:3 de 32cm x 23 e 32cm x42.

what kind of paper do you print those on?

Hello there. You know, worldwide, paper thickness standards are quite different. But using the GSM system, it's what they call in here the Supreme 300g. For getting the right approximated weight/thickness in order to make these pieces, you can read this article: www.printi.com/blog/thickness-of-paper/ Around 120lb of stiffness you get the thing right, with better printing quality and it won't bend that easy as thinner paper. The 300g/120lb paper often is semi glossy on one side, but rough like the offset paper on the other side. My recommendation is to go on the thicker you can. May be hard to cut, but it pays off in the end. I hope I helped you somehow with this info. If not, I can try again.

What kind of paper you used bro?

Roberto Alonso Orozco Carrillo Essentially cardboard. Most of the time I use thicker paper from 350GSM to 400GSM. It depends on where you live to determine the way they call this kind of paper. Here they call it Supreme 300g. It's a bit glossy in one side but not that glossy as photographic paper.

Roberto Alonso Orozco Carrillo I outsource. But it is laserprinted. From what I remember, the printers are HP and some other japanese one. You have to send art in300dpi or the final result won't be that stunning.
