It's amazing to think that people once questioned whether this met the required baseline of quality to be on Steam, and you look at the platform now....
I like the freedom we have now, though you have to be much more careful and research before buying games from nameless companies. I mean, it's better than Greenlight, which was always a failure in my book.
@@MrLoowiz I disagree. Deliberate asset flip scams that sometimes don't even have a working exe should not be on the platform under any circumstance. Greenlight's failure is not an excuse for total lack of oversight on deliberate, malicious scamming.
@@RyanKaufman That's a whole other issue, though. Scams and bad games are not the same, but I stand by what I said. Be careful and do your research, before buying games. I blame everyone who fell into the Day Z scam, or any other early access game who were successfully funded but abandoned by the developer. There's no real solution to the bad game issue, Valve is terrible at filtering them, and the community is even worse. Oh, and reviews + refunds are a pretty functional way to alert people on scams. I don't know about you, but I've never been scammed, and I can't imagine being scammed with so much information out there.
I couldn't stop laughing after watching this video again. XD I agree, this has to be the worst game ever made using the Source Engine. Just the INTRO alone sums-up the entire game right there.
Don't ask why, but that dance in the intro reminds me of that "ooooh, caribeau" song from Jimmy Neutron, from that one episode where Jimmy made a snow day with sunscreen lotion
Good news everyone! I now know how to dance like the tribesmen in the introduction! Here's how: - Get around a fire - Do some squats - Move your feet back and forth - Spin a couple times and there you have it.
Wait.....What if somepony made this horrible game to stop the 2012 apocalypse.....If this horrible game never came out and ruined our gaming year, then something bad was bound to happen.....This piece of shit game saved our lives....
This game is way better if you enable "Zombie Mode". Just press alt+F4, then look in your Steam library for an entry labeled either Left 4 Dead or Left 4 Dead 2 and click "Play". Makes the game so much better it's unreal.
My favorite part is that the quote that they used for advertisement "Revelations 2012 is a fantastic and enriching experience that immerses you into the chaos of the Mayan Revelations!" is from a no longer existing site
Actually TB, after talking to the developers months ago, the team behind it is a family founded company. The reason that it's on steam is that they paid for the engine license in full to Valve (not sure on the exact figure but $50k+). None of the team had any previous experience in the industry, let alone games. Me and a few others in the community tried to convince them to reduce the price (which they did) and cut their losses. They were ambitious but highly naive of the industry.
Cox n' Crendor's let's play showed the redeeming factors was in the ending credits when it showed the single family working hard to bring this game into existence.
From the creators site about the game: Key Features: - FPS 4 player co-op - Epic boss fights - Hordes of powerful minions - 4 vs 4 multi-player game play with an all new battlegrounds mode - Modular alien weapon system - Teamwork strategy to solve puzzles - Old world Mayan city setting - Use of AI director for unique game experiences - Matchmaking, stats, rankings, and awards systems - Powered by Source and Steam
Revelations 2012 is a fantastic and enriching experience that immerses you in the chaos of the Mayan revelations -valid gaming this message was on steam
Was looking for new source mods in 2023 and I came across revelations, as soon as I saw a screenshot I got shot back in time to when I first came across this channel, watching this very video. God do I miss you.
Menus and game mode selection look almost exactly like those from Left 4 Dead 2. Clear influences from Left 4 Dead 2 in the gameplay as well but Left 4 Dead 2 is so much better of a co-op apocalypse shooter so go get that.
one review on the game on steam and it goes like this: "Revelations 2012 is a fantastic and enriching experience that immerses you into the chaos of the Mayan Revelations!" - Valid Gaming. 309 players recommend it
Hearts here! Unbound fire function in a shooter... best game ever? I also love how they made it so you can't read anything when you select it and starting the level in red jello solution.
This game has been substantially remade, now. The fonts and a lot of the textures have been greatly improved, and it is free to play on Steam. I just downloaded it, and only came out of the game to post this because it crashed. Still, it is challenging and I quite enjoy it, although I'm also having to run it at 640x480 to make sure that my video card doesn't overheat. This is essentially a Left 4 Dead mod set in the jungle with Mayan architecture, which I happen to like, which is part of the reason why I enjoy it. Although the AI doesn't really do anything as TB says, it is still possible to get swarmed and overrun in confined spaces, which means you do need to dodge, maintain elevation, and make use of chokepoints, among other things. The teammate AI is about as bad as Left 4 Dead as well, although they do revive you. I quite like bad games sometimes.
I saw Jesse and Crendor's Saints Row video and was just thinking "Revelations? What is that?" I saw in the comments that TotalBiscuit did a WTF was of it and I found this video. RIGHT when his intro faded, I remembered EXACTLY what this was because I watched this when TotalBiscuit released the video. All from the derp dance.
On Steam, Valid Gaming said that: "Revelations 2012 is a fantastic and enriching experience that immerses you into the chaos of the Mayan Revelations!"
I agree with the sentiment that Valve shouldn't just let any Source game onto Steam, and I don't know if they've changed their policy, but I can also see why they do it from a business perspective. The promise of promotion on Steam if you use the Source engine makes it look very attractive to developers and could encourage them to buy the software. But, weighing the cons with that, it's not really worth it if Valve ends up promoting games that make them, Steam, and Source look bad.
:O He referenced Chex Quest? Which was the first FPS game I ever played as a child? Oh TotalBiscuit, this is why you're amazing (and yeah, even Chex Quest is better than Revelations 2012)
There's a review on the steam page from Valid Gaming, "Revelations 2012 is a fantastic and enriching experience that immerses you into the chaos of the Mayan Revelations!" Obviously when you click on the link there's "no results found"
Listen guys I know one of level designers personally and there just using the same engine and also the level designer is the game director for portal 2 lab rat
""Revelations 2012 is a fantastic and enriching experience that immerses you into the chaos of the Mayan Revelations!" - Valid Gaming" are you fucking kidding me
To be fair, Dino D-Day has vastly improved to being borderline playable and enjoyable. Mind you it's still not worth paying for, assuming it goes F2P I might even consider playing it. Still this game... Makes me miss Sven Co-op so much. Now that was a fun game.
The game isn't THAT bad... At least the AI of your companions isn't horrible, so they did one thing right. Well... maybe companion AI was too good, but whatever. I would pay a dollar for it if it wasn't for the yoga pants and what I assume is a tramp stamp. That and the fact that the character didn't sound like she was dying when you shot her... She actually sounded like she enjoyed it a little too much. Perhaps they tried to save money by taking the sounds and dialogue from various porn videos instead of hiring actual voice actors... Either that or no self-respecting voice actor would want his/her name in this game's credits, so the developers had to bring in pornstars. Maybe they hoped that the sex appeal would be enough to sell their game. I'm sure somebody bought it for that reason alone. Other than that, the game was almost playable.
After many updates this game is actually pretty fun now, it still has bugs but fun none the less. The price has also dropped, its now $2.49. I highly recommend this game, the laughs I have shared with my friends while playing this game made it worth every penny
I meantthe part in the beginning where he was walking around alt.fire ammo and shouting nonsense, which tells, that he didn't play it before, or at least didn't play it enough to realise how to use it which isn't much at all. And about hearts he was shouting "look, why is it in different font" which i took as him being surprised, besides he didn't pick up any hearts in the beginning and later he was asking why do you have to press E to pick them up.
I love this WTF is. Absolutely one of my favorites. TB should re-visit Revelations 2012 when the developer has added all their new improvements and additions.
