Too late, the stoop has hit me(vicariously). I can't straighten up.Sue, stop pounding on me,,, I will drive us to Sanibel again! Thanks for a great video.
Pen shells are extremely common - I can’t ID every single shell during every episode but I do mention them in other episodes in detail 🙂 you can learn more here: virtualshelling.com
Was in Ft. Meyers a year ago in April. Walked the beach but didn’t get up to Sanibel, but plan on visiting next year, in winter. Probably February. Can’t wait.
This is the best video I've seen of seashelling! I was so great of you to show and tell us all about the shells and their inhabitants! I did feel sorry for that one big guy who was waving his leg(?) trying to flip himself over. I wanted to flip him over, he looked so vulnerable like that. Thanks for taking the time to show us so much of the beautiful beach, and all the little animal track! Wish I lived there. We don't have shells like that on the west coast.
I've watched this a couple times and kept it running in the background it is my favorite video so far so good. We stayed near the lighthouse this past summer as a family reunion had a great time..... Did not find as many shells as this at all..... Red tide in October Maybe was responsible for scarcity.... there was a lot of large dead fish...
I am so amazed with your beautiful, informative videos!! This was awesome! And opened my eyes to the significance of these living shells we take for granted. I am surprised there didn’t seem to be any sea glass ? Thank you for these wonderful videos!
Hi Laura! Loved your shelling video. We learned so much. We are first timers and we are planning to visit Sanibel next spring (2018). Would love to get suggestions on lodging, shelling times, weather, to-dos, etc. Thank you so much. Will keep watching your videos.
New subscriber, this was so much fun for me. I had never seen the live seashells before. So cool. Thanks for sharing your video with all of us. So glad a found your channel. Love it
So glad you enjoyed this video! Please be sure to check out the Virtual Shelling Network! Videos just like this are posted weekly! www.virtualshelling.com
Wow! I don't know how this turned up in my "recommended" list but I'm glad it did. I just sat through this entire thing and thoroughly enjoyed it! It's like "Seashell ASMR." Good stuff! The shells are gorgeous and I found your commentary interesting and informative. I'm in south western Connecticut and our selection of shells, that I can recall, is definitely not as elaborate as yours down in Florida... I guess we have to blame Long Island for that, since it blocks all the "good stuff" from washing up on our shore from the open ocean. Very enjoyable video... and I just subscribed to your channel. I'm looking forward to watching a lot more of your videos. Thanks for the awesome tour! Oh, and the starfish were fantastic! I've never actually seen the trails they make in the sand so that was very entertaining and educational!!!
Good morning, could you try and remember to turn your phone sideways while filming. It's a better view,of all of your beautiful world. Thank you for all you do. I am always grateful for what you teach me.
Laura, I am a New Subscriber to your Channel & I just want to say that I Love Your Videos! First of all, you seem like such A Beautiful Soul! You have the Best Personality, a truely Infectious Smile & I would be willing to bet, that you have a lot of Friends! I love that your videos are not just Inspiring, but Educational (a really good kind of Educational). I am a 53 year old Woman & you have taught me sooo much about Shells & Sea Life that I have never known! That's probably because I grew up in Beautiful, Lexington Kentucky (sooo Land-locked it's Scary) & lived there for the first 35 years of my life, then moved to the NW Corner of South Carolina, around Greenville/Spartanburg. I am still about 5 hours from Myrtle Beach (yuck!) & about 9 hours from the Beach where we usually vacation about every couple of years, Panama City Beach in the Pan Handle of Florida. Now that I have found your videos about Shelling on Sanibel Island, I now have a New Favorite Vacation Spot & I'm already chomping at the bit to Visit! I know that I will Love it there & probably won't want to leave! I have never been to a beach that had sooo many whole shells, especially with live creatures in them! I would spend hours there just looking at all of them. This particular video taught me sooo much about Shells & Sea Life that I absolutely didn't know & I want to Thank you for that! I truely hope that one day, when I do get to visit Sanibel Island, that I bump into you on the beach, that would absolutely top off my visit! I will try to make sure it's around the end of the year & hopefully after a cool front, (in other words, when all the planets are aligned, Lol) so I can see all of these Beautiful Creatures, Collect some of the most Beautiful Shells that I have ever seen & Enjoy those Gorgeous Sunrises & Sunsets! Again, Thank you Laura & God Bless you & your Husband!
Wooow! I love your videos! I live in Orlando and I wanna go to Sanibel! What is the best beach for shelling? I heard something about Lighthouse, is that correct? Thank you for sharing!!😊
Glad you love my videos! Which beach is best for shelling all depends on the time of the year, tides and storms. You can learn more watching my videos and shelling tutorials on the Virtual Shelling Network! Www.Patreon.Com/virtualshelling
Leigh Ann Cronin this video was 3 years ago 😉 recent videos are in landscape life and shot in high definition, you can view them here: Www.Patreon.Com/virtualshelling
Your videos make me want to move to the beach. I appreciate the way you have compassion for these sea creatures. Have you ever found any gold while hunting sea shells ?
Eu tô vendo q nem um são carcasas, mas ainda estão com seus donos dentro. Quando estão assim eu não retiro, eu deixo pra eles continuarem vivendo. Eu so pego da natureza se tiver so a carcada 👍
All those bivalves will die eventually once the sun comes out and if the tide doesn't come up in time that will be goodbye for your littles friends the best thing you should have done is to put them in the water.
HaliotisGigas shells are designed to be able to survive between tides. Most shells and sealife can survive 24 hours out of the water if kept moist. These shells were fine and completely covered at high tide.
HaliotisGigas considering the tides are controlled by the moon. It takes 6 hours for the tide to go out and come back in, so presently, there is no danger of the tide not returning to cover up those "little friends" as you so eloquently put it.
Well, still a good video despite that. Would you please hold it horizontally next time? Because then we (the viewers) get to see a full screen of video and not a diminished cut-out box. :)
Empty shells crunch, usually it’s the empty one shells you’re hearing. Typically occupied and live shells are very heavy and tough. Beach walkers don’t do near the damage as the conservation volunteers and police who drive over them with 4-wheelers.
