King Darien is definitely your second best Anthem (after Wedding Announcement) and I'm very surprised it's not in here. Protecting your wide board from getting swept by Depopulate or Burn Down the House is pretty important imo.

CGB and Crokeyz both seem to have a Blindspot where they evaluate every single card on rate, with little regard for synergy. It's a bloodless, joyless approach to the game that I cannot relate with.

@@mikeyj.philly I don't agree that they're "bloodless and joyless" and I don't agree that King Darien doesn't pass evaluation on "rate" (whatever that might mean). I do think it's very easy to overlook cards from a set that was only released a couple of weeks ago and a metagame that has just been shaken up by a banning. King Darien is noteworthy in it's synergies though. For example, it's exceptional along side Serra Paragon. My own preferred version of GW "wide" creature deck definitely uses both of these cards. CGB's build today uses neither. I think that's the wrong choice. I don't see anything more than just "wrong choice" here and some playtesting will sort it out either way.

As months pass by, I find I learn more and more from CGB. Even though I've had a couple dozens of diamond and mythic decks with various colors and strategies, CGB's understanding of how to actually play this is clearly beyond. Plus, he teaches his reasoning and does these great intros and shows so much entertainning stuff. Yeah, you do you CGB, you are cool 🥰

I use Venom Connoissuer with my deck like this. It's nice attacking with loads of 1/1 and then drop a Resolute Reinforcements to wipe their side. I like Venom rather than Gate Keepers. If you drop 2 creatures on any turn all your creatures have deathtouch.

As it turns out, the Alchemy-nerfed version of Meathook removed the life gain for a reason xP I’ve tried making Humans go-wide, Rabble Rousing, and even a Soldiers deck, and every time all I could think was, “this just auto-loses to Meathook”, so I definitely am excited to see how go-wide/tokens fare in the Meathook-less meta

The first deck I made this rotation was so similar to this. I was so excited to play it, but it was so bad against mono Black I made a mono Black deck and never went back. Selesnya tokens lives again!

Most go wide card in format though isn’t here rabble rousing. That doubles number of attackers by creating that many 1:1s is nuts if you get it a couple attacks and they can’t hook to gain a bijillion life Killy all your little tokens with single card

My main decks are Mono white aggro which is glad there is no hook, and Domain control in which I can Drag for -6 killing go wide decks that are glad that hook is gone. I'm playing both sides so I always come on top.

Been using it a lot since it came out and it's just a removal magnet. And if you wait before playing, value goes downhill a bit. Still playing it x3 or x4 though.

the thing with meathook is that mono black was not the only deck to use it. It was an easy 2 of in so many 2 and 3 color decks. the ban impoves so many matchups against certain decks.

This "meathook was a 2 of" argument ignores the fact that the reason meathook is a 2 of instead of a 4 of is because it's existence was a deterrent to go-wide strategies, so no go-wide was played so there was no need to play it. Trust me, if a go-wide deck ever became popular people would go to 4 meathook and that deck would be gone in 2 days. Meathook was like a nuke: you don't even need to launch the nuke to stop people from threatening you.

I have seen so much more variety since Meathook was banned. The entire standard format warped around that one card. When building a deck, you either went hard into black to put it in, or your based your deck around beating it. It really left no room for creative decks.

OK so i tested it a little bit. I went 12 times on the draw and 4 times on the play (normal queue).... yes a 75% ratio on the draw....I reached a 67% winrate wich is pretty good! Taht's a pretty pleasent deck to play. GG to you and thanks for the content CGB.

Drag to the bottom exists and the mono black deck can just play five of the black producing triomes and the deck actually gains consistency from the cycling ability on the lands and the land types for drag to the bottom. Previously if the mono Black land drew a land late game they could play it or they could hold it for a discard to Liliana but with triomes they gain a function...... Mono black is a virus confirmed?

I moddified my mono black by adding 10 B/W lands and 3 depopulate. 77% win rate 7/2 matchs. Meathook massacre was only a tool in black not a combo card.

In two years of playing it i don't feel like Meathook has even been a wincon, not any more that any other card in the meta, i actually lost count of how many times it was a dead card in hand, it was game defining only during extremely long games where you had enought mana to actually swipe for those 7/7 indestructible creatures.
