Dear lord, that poor guy at the end with the party deck! He was basically the torture victim who learns to like it, or becomes fascinated with what new things his torturer can come up with. Their creatures, their sagas, their lands...nothing was safe!

It's ridiculous how much your decks influence the Meta. Every single time I run up against an new deck I first think, oh hey this is neat what a creative opponent...then I pop over here to see this exact deck. Yeah two Starnheim Unleashed in a row for a total of 9 angels after a devastating mastery (which I don't see in this build) was a bit much for me... though I did have four blood in the snows which never materialized but whatevs. Thanks for your hard work!

All I've been playing is UW control. It's insanely good. It will be everywhere soon. Now thay cgb and sonio both have created decks. Guaranteed. Ton of fun to play. I'm working on my own version. Little bit thr same but in my own style.

What a beast - 17:4 on ladder, thank you for this shell. I added 2x Iymrith (5/5 dragon, flying, ward 4, 5 CMC, drawing cards) = as close as you can get to Dream Traweler ;) When they are topdecking, it is about 3 turn clock. Games are long, but you are torturing your opponents. Great stuff!!!!

That first game is why I pretty much have to run at least two Field of Ruin regardless of the deck. Control I run four. Aggro I usually run one maybe two if I'm not using creature lands myself

I have two less abscenes( this card can get you killed later on in the game if the opponent has too much mana.. theyll keep up in value with you from clues...) i also added one negate and only have one memory deluge in my deck and 3 silundi visions instead. I feel like I have more consistent counter and draw mana on opponents turns. Sometimes four mana is just too much if you wanted to counter and still draw for value. I also have one academic violation in my side board instead of two sciences. Love this one cgb!

Just played against this deck not even an hour after you released it. Was able to win eventually with faceless haven smashing face (was playing goblins). Opponent did make some questionable decisions, one in particular, which was that they waited until my turn to kill my goblin that can pump squad and I just pumped once, he targeted, I pumped again and it died, then I attacked for six. Your deck is for sure powerful, but a lot of hard decisions to make (which you nail btw CGB). Great deck! Go Nuggets (Oct 20 tip-off, Going 80-2 this year 😁)

Have you considered trying out some azorius midrange combo with Iymrith and Teferi, that sounds very fun.

I'm not smart enough to play control, absolutely loathe playing against it, but, I absolutely adore watching you wreck shop playing full blown denial. Chefs kiss

I've tried this deck with so many slight variations, and I can say unequivocally that Faithful Mending is not good haha. It feels awful every time, and when you're down to 1 or 2 cards in hand and need a land and a sweeper, feels real bad to have to discard one or the other and pray for a top deck. Soon as I took out the Mendings I began to have some decent games. With UW control, I never want to fight from behind every game due to putting myself down cards (yes I know the math is "neutral" after flashback...I want card advantage not card neutral). A much better effect I found was adding 2 Gates of Istfell to the mana base. This actually does draw cards, and it gains a couple of life. Maybe you're the master, or maybe you got fortunate with how things lined up in the games that the Mendings didn't hurt you too badly. I watched the video twice and can't tell which, but I do know that it's not a good card. My rank tanked to the bottom of Diamond trying to make this deck work. I went onto your Untapped page and saw the Dimir control list...far better. So much card advantage, no willfully giving up cards to play a bad spell. Love that list and can't wait for the video!

Frankly if I see more than 3 of this deck in a single day I'm leaving until the next set comes out. I do not understand people who derive enjoyment from telling their opponent they aren't allowed to play the game. I fully admit I'm a rather casual player, so my opinion probably has very little weight, but when I sit down to play Magic, I want to play Magic. Whether I win or lose, I want to actually play a game with my opponent, and this deck is anathema to that philosophy. Yes this is written right after I lost to this deck, yes I am supremely peeved. I might just have a bad case of basic empathy, but if I dislike something being done to me, I don't do it to others. Anyway, Catharsis achieved. Great Video too! Hearing CGB's thought process out loud has definitely improved my gameplay. Have a like as compensation for my rant.

Hey man, might want to try using that untapped mechanic of Teferi on skyclave relic, celestus or satchel. I really think the control version by Sonio or alternatively the very recent Lier version by MTG Malone is freaking insane. Might be good idea to try to use some of that synergy and brew something even better.

I ran this list but subbed 2 Grand Master of Flowers for Teferi and a Faithless Mending and it was great. It's frightening when mercy is an indestructible dragon bashing you to death... :)

Playing Azorius feels like pushing the opponent slowly into the mud while you slap away their attempts to stop it.

Really like Devious Cover-Up. Was a staple in Dimir for me when we had Lazav, Spy Bug, and the other UB Ravnica cards. It just gave you more on-curve counterspells with the benefit of putting those early tempo cards (particularly surveil cards) back into your deck, which infuriates mill to no end.

My Azorius Midrange-y deck would eat this alive. I have yet to see anyone running anything like my homebrew, and I regularly beat rakdos dragons with it. I'd love it if CGB would do a video on it, but I don't want everybody to suddenly know what I'm playing/how to play around me.

Real question: Why don’t we see Starnheim Unleashed as a win-con in many control decks like Azorius and Esper? I get that it’s not necessary when you are playing with a win-con like Mordenkainen, but if you don’t have a win-con, doesn’t Starnheim basically check all the boxes. I mean maybe I’m just missing something obvious, or maybe tapping out for it when foretolled scares off a lot, but I’ve included Starnheim in everything from Angels(obviously) to Esper control to Mardu treasure to Orzhov/Tergrid Control to Jeskai Dragons and I have YET to be upset because I drew into it (except when needing mana and even then I’m not upset because it’s Starnheim, I’m upset because it’s not mana).At the absolute worst it is a (foretolled) 3 mana 4/4 body with flying AND vigilance, but most of the time you’re hitting it for 3-4 Angels. Middle of the game you’ve got 2 solid blockers that attack with no downside on your turn, end of game you play it and they typically scoop. I just don’t really see the draw back other than having to tap out for it. Sorry if this is overly long…

hrm... some of your choices helped me build out my 80-card azorious deck. Now I need to work it back down towards 60. It works. its not great yet but it works. I started wanting to make a Jeskai deck, but there just i'snt much in red that I want for this deck. So after watching your choices ended up moving to blue/white only.

Used this as a base and added some black for removal and professor Onyx... With 2 of the new dual lands in Esper it is a strong wedge.

Making people concede out of frustration is a valid wincon, especially in ranked.

I was so confused at first because I thought the Deserted Beaches were plains! I didn't recognize the alternate style and they kinda look like the Rochas MID plains

Today I had an epiphany (no pun intended). I've always been a defensive player. I loved Petrosian's style of play, later mastered by Karpov, and used similar styles when I played chess competitively. Control is just like Jiujitsu: let your opponent wear themselves out and then beat the tar out of them. This, and that beautiful witherbloom sacrifice style, is my cup of tea. Thank you CGB-sensei. I learned a lot from this dojo, and look forward to learning more.

Was playing on Arena and saw this deck. Immediately thought "this evil is familiar to me" and sure enough, here it is.

I hate playing control. I hate playing against control. And yet...I am always most excited to see CGB's control videos. I cannot explain this disconnect.

I was getting so pissed at mono white aggro, playing this deck was so satisfying

I took out two of the Considers and threw in 2 Spell Satchels and it's a fantastic card, because you get to untap it with Teferi as the artifact and so you can have 2 mana up if Teferi comes down on turn 4. Enough to cast a foretold Saw It coming or Fateful Absence. EDIT: Also added 1 Starnheim Unleashed and got to cast it 4 times in one game in a control match up thanks to Devious Cover-Up

Evil CGB rarely makes an appearance in the deck tech. What a treat.

I can't speak highly enough about the new duals. Not only are they good in their respective color pairings, but Esper, Grixis, Jund, Bant and Naya each get 2 of them. I think they single handedly make various control decks viable again. Metas are dictated by the mana base. When new sets come out and contain new staple lands, not only do you have to look at the new colored cards and see what decks will shape up (wolves, zombies, whatever), but you have to revisit previous decks that were too clunky with mana against super aggro and mono colored decks. Esper now has no real issue popping off a reliable Doomskar/Shadows Verdict/Crippling Fear with this mana base. The non overlapping double mana costs were really hard in the last format with just pathways. Makes kicking mono white and mono green in the teeth a wonderful feeling.

I'm new to arena but played MTG many years ago and these video's are great! What's the most efficient way or ways to get those rare and legendries? Just by buying packs and and crafting them in game?

I think Iymrith, Desert Doom is a perfectly good finisher in a deck like this... might not be Dream Trawler, but you can untap it with Teferi to help with the Ward, and it does draw cards when you mostly need it to.
