They built the perfect 400..it doesn't matter where they have it built even if it was Africa they have build control and believe me it's gonna be the Way they want it built perfect so it doesn't even matter where or who,, it's getting done right........
I saw one of these in Blade Stratford (Upon-Avon) a few days ago and I think they look better 'in the flesh' so to speak. Not a bike I particularly want but I must admit I was impressed with it....Incidentally I took delivery of a 2017 Honda NC750 today. I needed a workhorse and couldn't think of a more suitable bike.
This looks stunning Mark, the gold forks, green paintwork and tan seat really set it apart, a lovely burble from the exhaust too, it sounds bigger than a 400!
Hi Mark…I’m a short man like you, I’ve got Brixtons boots (3” lift) they make all the difference mate…they stop me looking like a child when trying to manoeuvre the bike around👍
Howdy, just came across the video randomly. I've got the same bike, with the khaki tank and all. I found that the bike was geared ~really~ low for what I required, with off-roading being maybe...5% of my use requirement. Just recently changed the front sprocket from a 14 to a 15, along with having a custom 37 tooth made for the back. Immediately better, fixing the only issues I had with the bike itself. I'll end up having to replace the tires it comes with, but that's not necessarily a negative.
You are by far my favourite motorcycle reviewer, I am in awe of how much enthusiasm, love and excitement comes out when you talk about the motorcycles. I jus love listening to you speak with that English slang
I ordered the Scrambler in green and am ready for it to arrive in the states. Thanks for the great review. I plan to deliver my bacon on my bike in Alabama.
On the suspension travel... it's possible this could have that about its suspension, but on the roads, even if the suspension is sprung exactly the same - the larger front wheel and beefier tyres will make a noticeable difference in gliding over bumps and potholes. I noticed this big time after a few years riding scooters for my delivery job, then returned to geared bikes and suddenly potholes and bumps seemed nothing like as bad as I'd remembered them. It's all about relative perspective, although what I was riding was the cb300r, which was extremely lightweight and had showa big piston forks, which probably made an even bigger difference.
Hi Mark, just wondering how the engine compared, and the bike generally to the CL500 because Honda are offering a £500 deposit contribution atm, which makes them priced very similarly? Great review as always 😊
Hi Simon ...the cl500 is a great bike as well.. parallel twin vs the triumph single ....the Honda has a tiny edge on performance...I think the triumph looks a bit better ...try and demo both Cheers mark
Thanks as always, Mark. The Scrambler 400 is 20 lbs heavier than the Speed 400. I viewed a review on both bikes together between two riders who swapped the bikes back and forth to compare notes. They both agreed that the Speed 400 was discernably the quicker of the two, but only slightly. Apparently, in this 400cc power range, 20 lbs can make a difference. It looks like the Scrambler exhaust is the biggest contributor to added weight and next after that is the 21" cast aluminum wheel. An after market exhaust should narrow the weight gap considerably. Gord
Looks amazing....apart from Triumph's infuriating habit of plastering the tank with idiot stickers (more than any other manufacturer). I want one. Pity there's no centre stand, even as an option.
Recently in my local Triumph dealer and I have got to say the 400x has cracking build quality for the price, wonder how it compares with the Fantic caballero 250/500. Usually go for a bikes around 120bhp so not sure if its for me or not. Thanks Mark.
Reminds me of my Fantic Caballero in many ways e.g. Bybre breaks, 19 inch wheels, scrambler tyres, single cylinder, etc ...I'd like to test ride it for a comparison. Looks solid 👌
Heyya Mark….Hope you’re doing well….Just a point to make…..U should also start pointing out negatives of a bike. Any bike is not 100% great. Eg: Compared to the speed it is a bit slower, or no wind shield to protect the rider during 70 mile cruising speed and so on …. CHEERS MARK 🎉❤
Whatever happened to center stands? Only Royal Enfield seem to make them these days. We all know that chain drive sucks, well chain drive and no center stand really sucks! But even so, modern motorcycles offer more chains and fewer center stands than ever before....
I just checked out servicing a Triumph and there are some horror stories of pricing .. 😬, I mean we know stealerships do that often but these price gouges are off the scale so makes me a little leary .
I sat on both at Fowlers Bristol on the weekend. The 400 Speed feels smaller than the scrambler, with more of a lean forwatd position. I am taking a scrambler out for a test ride tomorrow 😁
@@markpulling12 Hi Mark, The Scrambler was fun to ride. Comfortable, great handling on the bends, good riding position, super nippy through town traffic. Braking was good, overtaking from 50 to 70 mph was done with ease. I did find lots of vibration from around 60 mph which I expected as its a single but would have found very tiring/annoying on any reasonable long ride. So wasn't the bike for me.
I wouldn’t trade in my Scrambler 900 for it, but nevertheless it’s a lovely looking bike as it the Speed 400. If I was looking for a smaller capacity bike, this or the Speed would definitely be in the mix for sure. I can see these selling like hot cakes… 😊
G'day Mark, not a fan of scrambles, but they have their place, the 400cc motor is a great economical and weight choice, badging very plain and cheep looking, don't think l would like to be a pillion hanging out on that tail, as always an informative review, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.
Great review, I took the 400x out for a test and did like it but have to say I thought it was a little slow, maybe expected too much but always had a 600 and just think I would get bored with the 40hp as does not have the get up and go of other bikes, I’m testing the 400 this weekend I’m hoping the smaller rear sprocket and gearing make me think I could live with it, as really think they are both bargains and great looking bikes.
both models look really good and not surprised they are selling well, really well priced and look to be well set up and designed and the styling is bang on, no doubt the next version will be much uglier as Triumph always seem to start with a decent looking bike and then ruin the looks with updates lol
I'm fast approaching 55 Mark, and I got caught up in the hype with these small back road bikes. I thought I needed less power and weight. I looked at the Sinnis 380, Scram 400, Enfield, test tried a BMW310GS and other various older off road types and decided on a mint classic Kawasaki Gpz1100 for £3k. 😂😂😂 I'm well happy!
Wonder who this bike is aimed at. RE seem to have almost cult status. NEither marques for me. But great reviews as always. Hope trend for medium/small bikes continues.
We at India are a much younger producers of motorbikes, but it's good to see these Indian made beauties by Bajaj-Triumph collab , rock the Europe and receiving so much love over there. I'm 174 cm so still couldn't flatfoot during my test ride, but because of the bike's appeal definitely will buy this in March. Thanks for your review.
Question from 88kg old bloke with stiff leg - do you think side stand will take the weight if one mounts by standing on the left peg rather than from the ground?
Noi don't agree mark is absolutely right to compare 1 bike to another especially if its a direct competitor in every way including the seat hight and power output including the torque output aswell as everyothersspectof a bike's appeal over its competitors as I've had my eyes on the royal enfield interceptor 650 but since the introduction of the BSA goldstar I've heard its more torquey than the interceptor im not sure if its enough to sway me either way towards the interceptor over the BSA but im very much greatfull to RU-vider's like Mark and Andy from the Missenden flyer for their efforts in helping us the general public who are giving the purchase of these bike's serious consideration!Mark is a very good reviewerwho's well spoken thoughtful and respectful in his reviews in relation to other RU-vider's and motorcycle companies and enjoy all of his reviews so much so that I've often watched a review on a bike that im not even interested in just to enjoy Mark's review and opinion on whatever bike he happens to be reviewing! Very well done mark for all your work it's really appreciated!👏 😊
Hi Mark, great and informative review as always thanks. I know you reviewed the Fantic 500 scrambler and I have owned one in the past although I found it to be very vibey and unrefined with a slightly heavy clutch and throttle action. How does the Triumph compare?
Hi Mark another excellent review, I’m really pleased you have reviewed both the new 400 triumphs as I’m thinking that one of these triumphs could potentially be my new toy . So thank you very much for 2 very interesting and informative reviews . Very helpful & appreciated. Dean
Great video overall! For daily commuting, between the 400X & the Interceptor, which one do you think is better set out of the factory? Stay strong, ride on!
Hi many thanks...my choice for commuting traffic town etc would definitely be the 400x ...lighter ...wide bars easy control ...the single engine would suit the city better imo Best wishes mark
Very nice of you. The scrambler 400 looks very capable., if you would please. Did you notice if the Scrambler 400 had a different engine speed while cruising on a dual carriage motorway than the Speed 400?
Hi Mark, I already have a Speed Twin, so I wouldn't really need something very similar. Having said that, I did try the speed, and that did feel nice, and stonking value at around £5,000.@@markpulling12
Great review Mark, I was really looking forward to hearing your views on this one. Pound for pound, its hard to fault this bike and it will sell easily. Interestingly, there are lots of reports that RE have a hunter mule, mounted with the sherpa engine. As per our last discussion, if that is the case, then the triumph and Hunter will be an interesting choice discusion moving forward. Thanks again Mark.
Did the one i test rode have an issue i wonder as at slow speed, 30 and below, it have quite snatchy. A red bell was illuminated on the dash which would indicate some sort of issue 🤔. The pull in top gear from 70 was impressive i thought.
Depends what gear you were in and how 'ham fisted' you may have been with the throttle. The red light is probably immobilizer. There seems to be a common problem with it being lit but I believe Triumph are working on some software to fix.
Hi Mark i very much appreciated your reviews. I'm 6'4" and mainly ride A and B rouds and some rough tracks. Whats your thoughts about 400X vs Voge AC525X you previously reviewed. Similar priced scrambler type bikes. Thanks
Hi both are very capable the voge is a little taller which might be better for yourself OR an adventure style bike like the trk502x /702x plus the new voge 525dsx which im reviewing very soon best wishes mark
@@markpulling12 appreciate your thoughts. I'm test riding the 400x tomorrow and calling in at Voge dealer also. I look forward to your review of 525 DSX 👍
Hi Barry yes it would be fine for touring....it's very capable and comfortable plus light off roading no problem...it's a great machine Best wishes mark
Mark Nice to see you went destination Dorsets I’ve a test ride next week. As I’m coming up for 75 thinking of chopping in my 1200 speed twin 😢for one of these . Will wait and see how the test ride goes 😮
I bought one 3 weeks ago and it's up for sale already. Not nearly as satisfying as my RE 350 classic reborn. Hard to quantify, but it's not all about the bhp and torque numbers. I got suckered by the sensational looks and the initial thrill of the performance. And my Halcyon green classic is just as lovely to look at. Expensive mistake by me. One man's meat etc. etc.
Really like the look of this and the lovely green 💚... Looks alot of fun for the money, riders down sizing and beginners, good top speed too. Thanks mark ❤ great review as always x
These bikes make sense in the uk with speed cameras everywhere and pot holes cheap road tax cheap insurance and great fuel consumption seriously considering downsizing from my gs1200
These bikes make not only sense in the UK but all over Europe, maybe except for some stretches of German Autobahn. But even there there are not many stretches left without speed limits due to bad road conditions, noise abatements or construction sites. I drove about 1000 km on Autobahn from Innsbruck to Hamburg a few months ago and only on etimated 300 km there was no speed limit.
Great review. Im now 68 and looking for a bike to take me onto my 70's. Really can't decide which 400 to go for. The 17" front on the speed will definately feel sharper. By the time ive added extras, the Speed comes to 5,500 anyway, so its flip a coin time. I'll need an axle stand to do chain work, but thats typical of todays bikes....no center stand! Safe riding Mark.
Sorry mark but shouldn’t every review be on its own merit of that bike. Why is every review a comparison with the speed the two bikes are in different categories. The only comparison should be with other A2 license bikes 👍🏿
@@hughphillips1427 do they ? The seat heights are different wheels are different sizes and he did a first ride on the speed. What we don’t get anymore is a review on the bike they are riding ( with the exception of mark ) A manufacturer put a bike out and all you get they should have added this or that on it. What we buy as a consumer is the bike they review saying it should have x y and z not going to change what we pay for in the shop. Just tell me how it rides 👍🏿
@@pookiewookie7679 so how many 61year old English black men have you seen on RU-vid ? Have you ever been in a dealership and been ignored. Quite regularly for me 👍🏿
Not meaning any criticism of you Mark but personally I'm sick to death of all this hype about this one bike. Will it live up to all this praise, we'll see. Would i buy one, not a chance.
