When will manufacturers cater for the Northern European market though?!….that front “mudguard” is as much use as a chocolate fire guard!….a few days on winter or rainy summer days in the UK and that radiator and undercarriage will be covered in road detritus!….looks great but when parting with ten grand of your hard earned , you want some options to protect its precious parts!!
@@markpulling12 agreed..the styling is epic…would suit the hot dry roads of Italy and Spain no problem….just not the wet crappy roads of Northern England for example!…great video by the way…another top notch realistic review added to your collection 😎👍
Thank you Mark, was hoping you would road test the Ducati soon. Your informative rides are the best. I bought my 937 Monster last August, the best Bike I've ever had!
Lovely machine Mark, awesome sound! Tommy's comment about the front mudguard is spot on, style over practicality! But I think we can forgive Ducati for that!! Great video 👍
Well done Mark! You do manage to put alot of info in your films. Thank you for that! And yes, this is a bike that has been on my list since it came a few years back. I'm trying one tomorrow in Copenhagen. But I'm so happy with my "old" 690 Duke! All these problems!
Great review as always Mark. Very detailed, very informative, and I like the close up shots of the bike's features at the beginning. I agree, 100 hp is just about perfect for road riding.
Love this review, and love my Monster if I'm honest. My first ever bike, having only passed my test in July, so not much to compare it with but love it.
That’s one great looking machine. I was going to comment about the style over function front mudguard but some one beat me to it….😊 thanks for the in-depth and informative review Mark - good stuff 👍
Great review! After 9 months of ownership and over 4100 miles, I'm absolutely loving mine. Amazing machine. The only bike that I'd say that has a nicer/smoother quick-shifter in that class is the Street Triple RS (another amazing bike). I swear those southern England roadways are meant for a motorcycle...beautiful views! I need to make that place a must-visit.
Great review as always Mark 🎉 wow what a sounds, this bike needs to be in the Eurovision 😅, beautiful piece of machinery, blimey how it picks up, we can tell you like it 😜 xx stay safe everyone xx
I got mine in 2021 a Ducati Monster 937 + Stealth Black out here in British Columbia. Full Termignoni race exhaust and up map with baffles removed was the best decision for an upgrade on the bike. I also upgraded to the sleek sequential turn signals, tail tidy and a belly fairing and it makes the bike look much better. To complete it I think this spring I will add the Ohlins suspension and steering dampners
After 3200 miles and 1 year of ownership here is my review. Its a nice bike, handles great, pulls well, brakes are brilliant, tyres are also great. plastic tank don't like it, false neutrals, starting can take 3 times especially in colder weather with full battery it wines a lot and it cuts out, in summer your leg is right there along the engine and it hits 100 degree c, rider aids are good i only really ride in touring tbh. Seats really comfy spent all day out and about 250 miles and no soreness, don't let it go under 4000 rpm cause it will chug a lot. Rode in salt and no protection and nothing ate into the bike so the finish is mint unlike my new XSR900 which went out together the same time and the sprockets chain and suspension had signs of corrosion in 3 days. Servicing can be a bit pricey and i get 50-60 mpg realistically however i don't thrash it thats a mix of riding. I personally would buy a Speed triple RS over this if i had to choose again, i got the XSR900 and its a nice machine, metal tank & smoother too but the suspension on the Ducati is way better.
@@claudiumxg1 Make sure you test them fully for a good 60-90 minutes to see how you feel, Ducati costs a little more and has a quality about it, the smooth CP3 is fantastic, performance wise they are similar its just the way it rides as the engines are very different, under 4000 rpm the Monster chugs searching for lower gears where as the CP3 will pull smoothly, Seats comfy on the monster for 3-5 hours XSR is hard after an hour but a gel pad helps. Only you will know when you ride them, Try the new Triumph Street Triple too its an ace bike and similar money if you don't mind the bug eye front end.
@@gavincostin1729 nice review!!!, had the cp3 on a brand new 2021 tracer gt but was plagued with throttle problems( 4x software recall, throttle grip, throttle body, ecu ...lol.yamaha never managed to repair it and after 700km they took it back. I am curious if they changed something on xsr
@@claudiumxg1 Ive done 1700 miles now in 7/8 months, no issues tbh, did think there were some odd sounds on the clutch but checked other 2022 models and they seem the same, but 2023 tracer was silent, also i think they made a lot of changes in 2022 XSR900 even to the engine but i'm not 100% Monster no issues in 3500 miles a year old, just low revs chug and cold starting due to Euro 5 i believe, plus 100 degrees in summer and its hot on your leg, personally i would pay a bit more and get a 950 Super-sport in the pearl white nice fairing protection and its the same engine. £15k which is then Triumph 1200 Speed triple prices and i would take the triumphs 180bhp and brakes at that money. All depends on budgets tbh.
Excellent video again and a lovely bike. It would be nice to see the outline of the engine a bit more instead of all the plastic , but all things considered, I would have one in a heartbeat.
BTW Mark, thanks for the great reviews done exactly the way I want them! It also helps that you are the exact dimensions I am (maybe I'm~ 8kg heavier) also 60ish years old but still fit and riding in a "spirited" but very safe way! Cheers Mate from Western Australia
Good review Mark and glad you liked it. I enjoyed having one for just over a year. I found the suspension a bit average though, not bad, but you could tell it was a bit budget. Very nimble and punchy performance. Alas naked bike not for me and traded in for a Supersport 950S which is excellent and has an even comfier seat 👍 looking forward to more ducati reviews
I didn't like the look of this bike at first, but I do now. The additional benefit of this model is it's lighter than the old one. Nice dash, and I'm not a TFT man. You obviously like the bike. Good review.
Lovely bike, although I had not noticed before but the front mudguard looks like a disaster in the way of practicability. Not had a go on on this new monster but I definitely want to. Given the choice, I’d always pick the MT09 and indeed I did, as I brought one. 😂
I am not sure why Ducati put the rear caliper underneath, so all the road crap gets dumped into it and the front mudguard, which looks pretty useless, but apart from that, looks a very nice bike if you have the money.
Nice bike & review. I'm tempted but it's pricey especially with the Street Triple R & RS on the scene which have better spec for significantly less or similar cost. The Monster SP is gorgeous but also silly money imo.
Thanks Mark. What a beauty this bike is, and seems so easy to ride and very "every day" usable. I agree with you about the sound too although I' do love the Street Triple as you go up the gears. It seems that there's a great choice of "Street Bikes" from middle weight to liter what a time to be a biker, enjoy! :>)
I own 2 Ducatis and haver my eye on 3 more models lol. Once you go mac you never go back they say.. today a biker who spent 2 years recovering from being pierced by a fork lift truck on a bike and a year in fear of driving just tested 7 of my bikes ranging from enfield to harley to yamaha to ducatis, and he came back on both ducatis (one cafe racer limited and one nightshift) and said 'that is the first time i have had an adrenaline rush since i had the accident'. I can say the ducati scamblers are amazing, and the multistrada is also amazing, and despite looking weird, the diavel cruiser is apprently a very comfy bike to ride
Hi Graeme.. very tough choice...the duke is more focused but as an all rounder think id go for the monster it's more comfortable and the v twin is fantastic cheers mark
Enjoyed the review. Great bike, a huge step up from previous Ducatis in quality and service intervals. But how often do the belts need changing? It used to be every 2 years irrespective of mileage! That would be a turn off.
G'day Mark, what can l say just a wonderful bike from Ducati, and it is a monster, only one thing l would change is Balancing the look by having exhausts each side, l might be old fashioned it just looks right 👍, another great review, where do you get a job like that??,you lucky bugger, Cheers mate, Neil 🤠.
I agree with you , my fav bikes are the same as yours. I'm going a bit down market by having the new Hornet on order, but it's way, way cheaper than the premium bikes. I saw the Monster at the NEC. I wasn't really impressed with it. There's too much plastic, around the engine in particular. If you say the suspension is very good I will , of course defer to your great experience. It does seem a bit pricy for a bike with no adjustment though. It seems a bit pricy all round though, IMO. Thanks for the review, always excellent.
I had this bike. Great fun and handles well. Particularly good low down but tapers off above 80mph (compared to MT09 or 890R). TFT is nice. One of the main issues i found with it is upgrades. When i had it you could only buy Termignoni full system at £2500. Example, MT09 full system on the market for £500. Also build quality isnt anywhere near the MT09SP i had. The ducati felt built to a price. Overall a good bike just not a great bike
Thank you for the video. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, however you literally did not make any comments about the negatives. For example, at this price point a fully adjustable suspension should be standard. You dismissed this as “unnecessary.” In addition, the M4 Brembo brakes are not the “top of the line,“ the Stylemas are. Yes, it is an awesome bike, but if compared it to something like the Street Triple RS, the suspension and brakes should be upgraded. Yes, I realize this is available with the SP, but that is at an even higher price point. You don’t come across as being objective in the video. There is always room for improvement.
I'm sure that it rides great - as you say in the video... But it does not float my boat like the older ones did. The trellis frame, gone. Lot's of black on the new frame and other stuff, like the headlamp are not good looking... And it SO needs a tail tidy. Like the weight and power though! Even sounds not bad on the standard exhaust! Thanks for the review :-)
@@markpulling12 Came down from a 1250 GSA, my third GS, it’s a hell of a lot more fun and you can use all the engine, don’t talk about the airbox sound. Look forward to the video, you review bikes properly👍
Hi Mark!I m waiting for your test for the new street triple 765 r.which do you think will be better compared with this?this is 2k more expensive,in my country
Hi I rode the street triple r a few days ago ...long story but triumph are very funny with RU-vidrs they have strict media so no review I'm affaid ....it's very very good 👍 As good as the monster so might be worth you test riding one Best wishes mark
Like your reviews very much Mark. I realise you only had this bike for a very short time, but you manage to give a pretty good initial impression. Also like your reviews as you are very similar dimensions to me so seeing if you fit a bike is a good guide for me. Have never really been a Ducati fan owing to my impression that they have high running costs and perhaps of their complexity come servicing, the costs will be higher perhaps more than other makes of bike? Let's face it no dealer services are cheap now! However this Monster looks a nice bike and at least worth a test ride. Certainly a serious contender in the middle weight naked group which you mention along side the Triumph Street Triple 765 RS, Yamaha MT09 SP, KTM 890 Duke R, perhaps even the new Honda Hornet? I have been thinking of possibly trading in my 1050 Speed Triple RS for one of these as they are a tiny bit lighter although my Speed Triple RS isn't that heavy and is still a blast to ride. I finally got it's gearbox rebuilt under warranty as 3rd and 4th gears failed. It has only taken a year and has been a complete nightmare to get repaired. It has really put me of the Triumph brand now, but at least my bike is working as it should be ............. This Ducati looks good, maybe I visit my local Ducati dealer and try one out? Do you think you will be reviewing the new Multistrada any time soon? I seem to recall you may have owned a couple of these in years gone by so this might sway you to review the 2023 model? Have you still got your Ninja 636 and MT09 Tracer?
Hi Alex yes definitely I'll be reviewing the new multistrada ...I'm in with Ducati Bournemouth now :) Ninja 636 and tracer 9 have gone currently have hunter 350.. zx12r eeeek ....and KTM 790 duke ...which is being fixed ...KTM ...known to malfunction... keep throwing money 😆😂😆
@@markpulling12 Lordy Lordy, I can't keep up with you! RE Hunter 350, ZX12R and KTM 790 Duke you say .......... wow! A great contrast of bikes. What's wrong with your KTM 790 Duke? This a bike I seriously like and was a contender to buy but KTM's hit and miss reliability persuaded me otherwise. You would have your work cut out just doing reviews and updates on all of these alone. Do you do any passing/final thoughts on bikes you are moving on from and possibly why? You don't seem to keep bikes very long. Is this deliberate or do you just get bored easily? Just curious? Have you done a review of your ZX12R? Good that you've now got a favourable response with Ducati in Bournemouth. Look forward to a Multistrada review ;@). ATB.
@@alexmorgan3435 the KTM Duke I think the fuel pump is the problem.... incredible engine...it's a little hit and miss with reliability luckily it's still under the 3 month warranty the dealer is currently fixing it.....no not so much bored love them all but I just like trying out different bikes as there are so many great ones out there ...I generally get them at great prices so dont loose too much when / I'f I sell Best wishes mark
@@markpulling12 Sounds like a good strategy. Yes too many good bikes. I buy, but then find I am not able to part with them! Hope you get your Duke fixed soon. Would be good to see a long term review of this. ATB.
As you say these Types of Bikes are Perfect for Road Use The SUZUKI GSX 800S is more in my Price Range looking Forward to you Getting on Board that Bike
Hi the hornet has a bit less pull low down ...but still very good 👍 The hornet is unbeatable value...but the monster is more premium and exclusive...but at a price I'd go for the monster Cheers mark
Hi Mark, I’m up in the air between this Monster and the Aprilia Tuono 660 which you have both reviewed. I’m 5’6’’ 58 years old. Did you find the Monster to get hot while riding at normal speed in a built up area (city), plus what was it like on the throttle. Was it linear like the Tuono or slightly jumpy like most Ducati’s. Thanks mate.
Hi the monster does get a bit hot in traffic but no problem once moving ... modern Ducati bikes are very smooth and civilised these days on the throttle....the tuono 660 is a fantastic bike too.... really enjoyed it ...tough choice as they are both brilliant...in the UK the tuono has very good deals which would possibly sway my choice to it Best wishes mark
@@markpulling12 Thanks Mark. A Tuono Factory is on special for AU$20K and a Monster SP is AU$21K aswell on special. I’ll test ride them both next week. Cheers tc.
I have the same model (2023) and have the same rattle noise between 2500-3000 rpm. It can be heard from the video when you accelerate slowly. Lot of them have this "problem" which is coming from valves probably. Do you have any additional info about this. It sounds really bad. Thanks
Hi it's just Ducatis for you nothing to worry about The desmodromic valvetrain makes a lot more noise than a conventional one with valve springs Best wishes mark
ok mark.... me and you both own 790 duke and hunter 350.... i know it's probably a step up from 790, if i was going to change my 790 it maybe for one of these, but would you ??.... people have mentioned the front mudguard, but i'm also not sure about all the rubber hose plumbing on show on the engine.... not pretty at all
It's very good ... similar performance to my 790 duke ...my duke has been remapped by j33 amazing transformation...I'll see how my duke goes I may well get a monster in the future...a good used one for say £9 k Best wishes mark
Just doesn't do it for me mark leaves me a bit cold I recently tried the new rs and it was amazing left me with a bit of a dilemma because I can't afford one lol but seriously it might the best bike I've ever rode truly that good
I really liked the Monster until i saw this review. Not for me....too small, it looks like a Grom when i sat on it too quiet and seems to have lost its original character.... Im 6'2" and 90kg so maybe a Z900RS...
Brake fluid reservoirs stick out like dog's balls, other than that I'd just want to lick it. And ride it obviously. In small towns and not only kids would be asking me to rev it for them left and right. Very good throttle therapy. (For what conditions?) For all of them. 🏍
