I grew up an Army Brat and went to four different high schools in three different states. Even though it sucked leaving friends it was always great making new ones. The journey that you are on as a military brat is one the very few people will ever understand. Looking back I wouldn't change it for the world! God Bless you all and that you for YOUR service to a grateful nation!

Sad when your young and you have to tell your new friends you can be their friend for four years because you'll be moving again, but well worth the stories later when your an adult and you realize you it was a great experience.

I'm 71 and was a military brat all of my childhood, including 3 tours in postwar Japan - and I am completely sympatico with these kids! Not much has changed. I now understand what a unique and wonderful upbringing we had, for all its challenges. So grateful and proud to be a BRAT!

I call myself a military brat, but I am 11 and have only lived in 6 different states, never been out of the country, and the longest deployment my parents were in was 6 months, and that is the only one I remember. My parents retired a few years ago. I went through nothing like this. And, yet, my hearts reach out to them. Thank you for... everything

Me too! Even though Dad warned us to stay away from the tarmac, of course we "free-range" kids of the 50s and 60s did no such thing, and I would often hang around to watch those magnificent planes take off and land. Dad was a pilot, so I understood that this was his world.

I was born in Vicenza, Italy in 1961. (Army Brat) at age 61yrs. people will still ask me are you Italian ? LOL. No my father was in the Army and my mother was pregnant with me when my father was transferred to Italy, being born in Italy doesn't make you Italian, LOL moved all over US, Started school on Japan from 66-69, came back stateside, My father went off to Vietnam and served 2 tours and then Retired from the Army with 23yrs served. back when I was little the parents didn't tell you they were transferring because we would get upset about leaving our classmates and friends. you would get up and go to school and you got home everything was packed up and you were gone, now I realize what happened to all my little friends that disappeared. you would go to school the next day an be looking for your friend to play with or there seat would be empty seat next to you, and ask where they were and the teacher would say they got transferred, than came the day I guess I disappeared.( transferred ) never to be seen or heard from than again, still at my age I wonder where they are and what ever became of them, kind of sad, my parents settled down where we had family in Pennsylvania and I that's where i finished growing up, I am grateful for the experience and the memories, but also bittersweet. you think about it more when you get older and just wonder.
