I always have tears in my eyes every time I watch this amazing performance by my favourite skater skating to my favourite music. Thank you, Patrick, for bringing figure skating to a new level. Best of luck at the Worlds in March!
all the people last year at the Olympics who said that Patrick didn't have enough skill...that he was overrated.. that his awesome transitions and footwork weren't enough....that he can't win because he doesn't have a quad.. well I hope they're watching this now, because he just landed TWO perfect quads and showed them the best freeskate in figure skating..ever.
ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS. and i LOVE how his skating costumes are totally not like. lycra tight. seriously. he was wearing a tux and skating. how manlier can you get?!
Brilliant!! I've been watching competitive skating for 30 years and have never seen a program like this! Patrick Chan is the best male skater in the world and if he skates like this, he is unbeatable!!
Even though the landings are little shaky, but gee the foot work and expression is probably the best I've ever in the last 20 years. If the triple axel and the salchow handed a little better it would have been perfect. Better than Plushenko artistically but techically may be give him a couple more years.
I was there but I have to watch it over and over. This was undoubtedly the best performance the world has ever seen. It wasn't a fluke either -- Patrick was solid all week long in practice.
I think you can say that this is probably the greatest men's free skate... ever. Athletically and technically, at least. I've never seen a man skate with so much difficulty and energy throughout an entire program. You can't even say that those scores are inflated that much because it was mostly earned on the technical side.
@3gatsunolion typically natioanls scores are a little inflated. It's a shame he didn't skate this program in an international event, he'de have set the scoring record, even with an element removed from each program this year, thats impressive!
I love Patrick Chan's skating but, I was a little disappointed by the music choice for this performance. When he first started competing he skated to intricate classical music that showcased his elegance and technical skill. I understand and appreciate the effort that went into this program choreographically and physically by Lori and Patrick but it seems a bit too stars on ice to me. My dream was for him to skate to Mahler's 5th but that has become a classic for the Canadian Ice Dancers.
@bluhvn100 Unfortunately, Russian splits, spirals, and other such moves would get him no real credit, so he would be unwise to expend the energy to do them. The IJS system is about working the point values, and he does it superbly. That said, he is my favorite skater right now. He's improved so much in the last year and I'm hoping he goes all the way to gold in Sochi.
"phantom" is my all-time favorite movie!!!!!!!! maybe patrick could get a costume similar to the one the clothes the "phantom" wears in the movie. otherwise, fantastic!
the way he performs when he skates reminds me so much of jeffery buttle when he was skating. Patrick must have learnt so much from watching him and also with coreography from lori nichol he has sky rocketed pass how much jeffery presented
I'll start by saying that I'm not a big Chan fan (ducks!!! :-) ) but WOW! That's one heck of a performance. I've noticed some banter about Plushenko here (I am a big Plushenko fan). Honestly Plushenko today, I don't think Chan would have to worry too much as long as he lands those jumps. Plushenko of 10 years ago - I don't know but it would be fun to watch!
@islandsylph Yes, if you watched it on CBC then you got appropriate silence and only the most helpful comments from Kurt and Tracey. Unfortunately, the CBC broadcast of this isn't on RU-vid. Even on CBC's website it's this Bold version. Ugh!
@SimonaCB Regardless, he now needs to eat his words. So many more people have incorporated the quad into their programs. He can't be condescending now. He believed he was on a pedestal and he would never fall. I have no idea what you're trying to argue. I'm not talking about the developments in figure skating, I'm saying that this program has rendered Plushenko's comments moot about Patrick Chan.
@SimonaCB Were you not aware of all the crap Plushenko was saying about everyone who did not have a quad? He needs to eat his words if he's planning to compete again, which he said he will in due time.
i hate how artisticly he is so poor, see the arms is so distracting so bad, his hands are allways open, he needs to improve really serious in that, because show that he practice to much and is not natural how must be!! But in the other hand is technique is so good!!
Jump, jump, jump. He is a good enough skater. I'd like to see a wider range of presentation, but the values of figure skating have shifted to emphasize jumping. No Russian split. No spiral. No romance. Maybe he will mellow out. How old is he?
