+Paris Pringle They dont belong tho, fuck them. That slave history sis, thats why they there. But they they tryna run them countries and tell black people to get out of there and they have power (ie in South Africa) smh.
+MaadAzzGang neither black Jamaicans nor white Jamaicans are indigenous, so by your measurement neither belong there, nor the Chinese. As she explains, she's a mashup, as are most people in Jamaica
+Arthur Serino depends how far back you want to go. Australian Aborigines are referred to as indigenous because as far as we know they were the first people there even though they originally came from somewhere else. That's the general meaning of indigenous. So in this sense, there are indigenous Jamaicans, although whether there are any left now is another question. They are, however, in the gene pool there somewhere.
+sirvidia aborigine is a more accurate term. it doesn't matter, i was referring to @maadazzgang's comment that "they don't belong tho, fuck them". they've been there as long or longer as the black population, injustice aside.
It's as if this interview wants people to be shocked that she is white (actually, mixed) and a Jamaican. Jamaicans or those of us with a familial connection to Jamaica know all about the melting pot. Just listen to the Jamaican accent and you can pick out sounds left over from the Irish.
I've picked out the Irish in Ontario Canadian as well. It's fun to notice things like that. As a NYer, I've noticed Italian, Irish, Puerto Rican, Black, & Jewish NY accents. The Irish speak the NY accent like Dominicans speak Spanish. Personally, it interests me, but I feel lonely in that.
I love people because we are all Gods children so l am not fighting with no onebut when it come to colour people eyes are blind even when one dies he or she isnt white SYH😞
RASS ANDENO, when did Genieve Johnson mention race in the context of making herself exclusive and don't you think the term "coolie" can be considered offensive to some?
Racism is not recognized visually biut certain action from elders make me know it exist hit they unaware that its racist .. but very noticed is classism very very sad
BrooklyntoBrixton I am offended by your remark on the premis that you know absolutley shit about anything...That's my god damned Aunt! what Ghetto? we have family all over the god damned world ,people age ,mature and age in an environment in which they feel comfortable...good people live all over Jamaica, we associate Ghetto with a place its is a state of mind...and "thos black children for your information know who thier mother and father are...unlike some here..u bright no rass!
She is adorable. My parents are Trini and I love hearing the older generation speak from any island. There's something about West Indians that is easy to love. I miss my Granny, she passed 32 years ago. Hi from Canada; bless everyone! One love Jamaican brothers and sisters!
this is beautiful.....our motto OUT OF MANY COME ONE! we come black , white , jew, chinese , latino , native., indian...and GUESS WHAT WE ARE ALL BORN AN BRED JAMAICAN....WE CAN NOT CHANGE HOW OUR ANCESTORS GOT THERE BUT GUESS WHAT.....we are who we are and we come from on the same island dem. love and positive vibe for my brethren an sistren. ...and for those speaking like they know jamaica history so well ,if your blood is not of jamaica ....please no speak on our country and mixed culture. bless
I wish the United states could be as proud to be an immigrant country as Jamaica. My country would be a much better place if we were a little more like yall. I see so many jamaicans commenting on this is Jamaica, out of many we are one, it's so beautiful thank you all for sharing your positive vibe and I will strive to spread this message to my people.
It's funny that as a Jamaican I looked at anyone that spoke the Jamaican language/dialect as if they were black too😂. Strange but I never knew how to separate it by race.
these comments here just justify in my mind the ignorance of the so called Jamaicans who now occupy space in this world ..thank god for my relatives who can make a video of my aunt to capture a peice of history. Love and Blessings to the Brown Fam. for naysayers there is so much more we could pass on but we will leave the illiterates to themselves..stay blessed
It's beautiful because as you in Jamaica say you are all one. Where I live in Peru we have a saying too, "we are all Peru." In Spanish it's "somos Peru"
Ever hear an east indian trini speak. You see; we as trini know which part of trinidad one may be from, by the way they speak, Although she is JA, she have some East Indian sound in her tone. Jus like American, they Kno which part of the state one may be from, by the way they speak. I had some idea of knowing country Jamaican, from city Jamaican, when I was in brooklyn. Some of my down south niggaz speak differently from up north niggaz. I also lived in New Jersey and Ft Myers Florida, where these Brothers speaks in poetic terms, understand. This is for educational purpose only. So, if you thinking of using your lion paws on me, jus tekk dat off your mind, lol. Bless.
I never had to take my Grandmother; we were friends. I have multiple stories shared by her. I would leave school on time to watch General Hospital with her.
@ ukguy what we consider white in Jamaica is not white necessarily, usually by time they are second generation they have some mix of something in them, but they are more white than us.. . . it sounds silly but a suh it stay!!
You probably think she sounds like a Trini because we can understand her clearly. When someone speaks with a heavy Jamaican accent then it's anyone guess what's coming out of their mouth!
Mister n I did and it supports what I said. I agree with you though. I'm not trying to say I know shit. You fed know more about your home. But I'm just saying there were white people in jamaica that never owned slaves but yes the majority did. Didn't one white politician lead some revolution against slavery?I remember my tour guide telling me about him when I was at the Kingston museum. Bless up bro
Mister n that's super interesting thanks for sharing. I'm glad to hear That. When I was in the village I stayed at there were white Rasta women with black husbands. Jamaica is beautiful
I am not sure why she is being called white when she is not full European. But why is this girl talking to her like she is shocked this woman is Jamaican. Where does this girl live in Jamaica for her not to recognize all her people. I have had some Jamaicans in America react shocked that I am Jamaican which surprised the hell out of me.
I just can't with our Jamaican ppl when they see someone is a lighter shade than the other ,educate yourself ppl , why are you so always shock this lovely woman look like just about most Jamaican grandmother , our motto say out of many one people so why are you surprised,if you want to interview this woman do so but please stop with the ignorance.
I think the interviewer really wanted her to hightlite the white part of her heritage. But, grandma was proud to acknowledge her black side. This is just to show that not all whites were wealthy. When most of them came to Jamaica, they came as indentured servants. Dirt poor. Most started families and did not want to return to the cold climate where they came from plus, the added fact that they were not rich. Big up granny.
I miss my Jamaican granny. I didn't get to know her that well since she was really old when I was born, but the stories I've heard from my dad and cousins made her seem really cool, and she was very funny from when I knew her.
She's funny. She's a cool grandmother. Her color is irrelevant. I went to Wolmers's and had white friends. They were as Jamaican as can be. I never thought of them as anything but Jamaicans
Only thing why this stand out is because 85 percent of blacks and that why jamaican never I have race war it only rich or poor but many feel like it was easy for light skins jamaican getting IMF borrowed money which so they got easy through life difficulties ,motto is our of many one people. One love ppl
This is a police interrogation not an interview. Som ah unu vloggers need fi ask sensible questions. Why ask her how many of her kids have died? You mad?
