Create your own chicken feed inexpensive and healthier than the prepackaged store brands.
I have learned, with chickens, that the prepackaged feed we buy can become very expensive especially with inflation the way that it is right now. I talk about different things you can put in your feed and the formula you need to figure out their protein, fat and fiber.
I hope this can help you to see the ease of making your own animal feed and help you realize you can do it...
Grinder like the one used in the video:

That grinder you recommend is cost prohibitive for most. If you are just cracking corn, a manual grinder will do.

Use what you've got, that's what we do. Amazon has different high capacity grinders that you can make payments on so it's less cost prohibitive. We have had this grinder for 5 years it was way less back then.

What is your thought on adding flax seed for added omega 3s in the eggs? I know from my nutritional studies ( on the couch haha ) that omega 3s are all the rage these days and humans do not digest the flax seed well but we do digest eggs extremely well. So in theory the flax seed adds omega 3s to the egg and we get more benefit that way.
@wilsonacreshomestead8362
@wilsonacreshomestead8362 Год назад
@CMO yes, I actually like to add flax seed but if I do I just have to do recalculation to the mathematics of how much of each grain to make sure the birds are getting a good healthy diet. I love flax even in my diet. Great question.

Can you break down the cost per ingredient other than corn and the size of the bag you purchased? Example, did you buy a 50lb bag of rye and how much did it cost you?

Backyard chickens forum says this is crap. I mixed corn, millet, oats, Flax seed sunflower seeds. Mine hate corn. I’m in a flux. Can I use this for pullets? Guess I need to add wheat.
@wilsonacreshomestead8362
@wilsonacreshomestead8362 2 года назад
You can use it on pullets. I go on backyard chickens all the time. Thing is in a homesteaders life, just like with Google and with backyard chickens... this is all people's opinions and we all use different things and every bodies birds like different things. That's why I say try different things to your birds liking. I hope you find a happy medium. 😊 thanks.

When someone, more than one person, thst basically I had ruined my chickens, I was sick for days!!! Then I thought, our grandparents and before them, had no clue on the things we do know now. They probably lost more Chickens to predators then we do. They didn’t have time to do the math! I have been grinding and mixing with a tire bought, but I’ve decided to follow a blend of yours and Becky’s Homestead recipe. It simply can’t be as bad as they say! Thank you for your opening scripture sir!

Also I can show you many many articles on nutrition ( non mainstream ) that will tell you humans do not eat grains and they are not healthy. Our stomach is waaay different that say a chicken.... way different than say even a Gorilla ( they eat plants mostly ). . YES your homemade bread is better for you than the store bought but to say its GOOD for you is a different story. Even homemade bread has a high GI nowhere near as bad as store bought. Moderation is key with breads, sweets, etc..... So much misconception about health thanks to how big companies pay for these studies and pick and chose what to release about them. Remember when margarine was good butter bad? Was little evidence but yet our government plastered it everywhere. Do not believe what you hear about nutrition from the mainstream people.
