The art of living has been lost. People are so busy making money and moving on to the next big thing. No one stops to enjoy the simple things in life anymore. It is sad. Making baked goods for afternoon tea with a vase of roses and fine China is my piece of simplicity. These tips are spot on. ❤
Perhaps you exagerate. If the art of fine living was lost, this channel would draw no interest. It's how I've lived my life and taught my son and daughter, a well as nieces to draw from
I agree, I go to people's homes and it's convenience foods and Target furniture. I rarely see a home where I am excited about how it looks. 90% have no authentic voice for their homes, it's just whatever placed around.
You look beautiful in your new outfits. They are timeless and classic which I love and very lady like hahaha am I sounding like an old school? But it’s true . I raised my two sons alone money was tight but we lived in a beautiful home . I worked in a flower shop and would come home with fresh flowers a lot. My little boys are now grown men in their 30s and know their mother cant live without her flowers. They told me they will always remember our home having fresh flowers and Iam glad they enjoyed that. You don’t have to be rich to feel like you are. Have a beautiful blessed day and Thankyou for adding beautiful to our lives🙏🕊😁🌻🌷🌸🌼🌺
Thank you for the inspiration! I am a person who loves to write letters on pretty stationary and use sealing wax on the envelopes. I love sending cards on a weekly basis. I wish there were more of us out there to continue the " old" ways.
Sarah, what a calming and thoughtful video. You look lovely in the silk clothes. Your ideas for an elegant home are spot on and doable. How delightful that your daughter enjoys your efforts to make a comfortable and pretty home for your family.
A lot of these things have been discouraged over the last couple of decades by 'designers'. I have always maintained these standards as best I'm able and find that people appreciate coming to my cosy home.
Using a dresser for your powder room vanity is definitely a classic! My husband did that in the 80s when he was building a new home. And we did it again when we remodeled our powder room 2 years ago. I found a lovely glass carafe for my night stand at an estate sale a month ago. Yours is beautiful! You are a classically elegant lady Miss Sarah! Love it all! ❤❤
Such a beautiful video full of inspiration and elegance. I simply love your story of your daughter being so comfortable and happy in your home. That is what we strive for …and it’s truly a gift and a privilege and a blessing to provide our home as a sanctuary. 💓💓💓
My mother kept battery candles, in all of her windows. When she passed away, I had to remove the candles from the window to sell the house. It was so sad for the neighbors, because they said they always loved seeing her candles at night. So, I ended up buying them for my little cottage and I keep them in the windows year-round just like she did . I also, where my mother‘s jewelry like you do. I lost her 25 years ago, but I still wear one bracelet everyday.. never take it off. ❤
I have watched your videos for years but this one struck a particular chord with me. I don't feel like I have changed much in my aesthetic - grew up in a house filled with antiques, was the only person I knew to have antiques in my college dorm room, always have dressed in vintage clothes. etc. But, lately, people have been complimenting me more and more on those things. I've heard, "You always look so well put together, Your house is so cozy and there are so many interesting things to look at, Your house tells the story of who you are, no one else could live here." Those are lovely things to hear! But, the one that surprises me most is compliments I get when I read at church or speak in public. So many people thank me for enunciating and pronouncing words correctly. I always thought that is what you are supposed to do when you speak in public! Perhaps one of the unfortunate side effects of our fast modes of communication is the loss of those things - everything shortened in acronyms and no one seems to have time to speak clearly or to say whole words without extensive use of slang. I sound like a judgmental old lady and I assure you I am not. I love people and enjoy many of the benefits of modern life (like YT!) but I think we lose something when everything is fast-paced including and, maybe, especially how we interact with others. Your home and you are lovely, as always. Thanks for the continued inspiration!
Providing a relaxing, clean, and cozy home for my family is one way I show my love for them. Now that I am older, I am blessed to see my daughters continuing the same in their homes. It's such a joy to see you passing on sweet ways to create a charming, elegant home and showing ways to present ourselves in updated elegant ways. Thank you!
Sarah, you look so elegant in your new silk clothing. I have noticed your elevated focus on the finer things over the last year or so. I’m sure sleeping in silk feels so luxurious. Your sophisticated grace is timeless.
I loved this video so much Sarah! Fast Fashion and cheap decor have really done a lot of damage, in my opinion and it doesn't have to be like this. I have two Lily Silk slip dresses that I wear as nightgowns in the warmer months that make me feel like a movie star; no faded T-shirts for me. Also, you can tell how nicely made your striped dress is because all the stripes match on the edges. I have sewn all my life and it annoys me no end when plaids and stripes don't match at the seams. I am going to try some silk pillow cases. I just ordered linen sheets last week but they haven't arrived yet. oxJulia
This os such a beautiful reminder.. ive ale saus our home is our haven. My daughter too appreciates my efforts to craft our home.. to cultivate peace. I incorporate all these things. I miss and crave gentler times. I bought my 19 year old a feather pen and ink and she absolutely loved it! Ive taught her to write thank you notes. It truly is a lost art and we need to revive it. Your outfits are classic. Very elegant. Green looks great w your hair color.
Actually, few people have manners anymore. If we’re not taught this skill as a child, it is rare if a thank you note is ever written. My Mother was smart she would give us engraved stationary as birthday gifts. So you can imagine how excited a child would be to see their name in print!
I love this video! I feel like a lot of times my life is rush, rush everyday and you remind me to slow down and just love what is around me. The smallest to the largest of things. So relaxing and I love the feel that I get from your videos. Tfs❤
Lighting is very important. We switched out ceiling fans for chandeliers and do half the bulb brightness and love it. Everything feels so much more cozy and elevated. I also have mercury glass lamps, crystal lamps and glass lamps with crystals, I would love a video on lamp shades though. I struggle finding shades I love. I have a dresser that matches your vanity in the bathroom, it has an amazing mirror with two side drawers on each side. I got the dresser at an estate sale for $95, I use it for the entry way, even has holders for candles. When you talked about your daughter loving being home I have the same feeling, no place I'd rather be. When Covid hit it was like so comforting and relaxing being home with everyone. You inspire me every time I watch and you help me see how lovely my home is already. My taste is similar to yours, but I want to make some improvements and have gotten stuck. Now I can see where I want to take things.
This was fun, Sarah! You looked beautiful in everything you wore! I especially loved the green silk blouse! That color on you was gorgeous! Please don't let some of the comments ruin your day. I've owned businesses for over 25 years so trust me, you will never please everyone all of the time. I love your home because it is different. and there is a lot of thought and intention behind what you do. If that's all you did was collected antiques and showed that I probably wouldn't have followed you from the beginning. Our homes should be an extension of ourselves. That's what makes our home a haven, a comfort and a safe space for our children. My daughter, who is 27 and living on her own, was so upset when she would come over and there was something new in the house. (decor she was okay with as I was always decorating) but furniture or how iI redecorated her room. She wanted it to stay the way it was when she was living there. LOL There definitely is "no place like home."
Your outfits are very elegant, but perhaps you need a black bra under the black knit silk shirt. I do many of the things that you suggest, I love an elegant home and life. Your home is always beautiful.
So loved all these ideas! I do a lot of these already, but this video is validation. Thank you for communicating it all so clearly! And a list is always a great thing.💖
Beautiful video Sarah. So many practical ideas. I’ve changed my bathroom containers, kitchen containers and laundry containers. I’ve also added a lamp, vintage books and flowers … it’s a start. The clothes are beautiful, and you are as well. I teared up when you showed your moms jewelry, I lost my mom, and wear her jewelry as well. It’s comforting. ❤
Hello Sarah, I love this video, you share some great ideas! I would love the plans for your trellises! Also, Happy Mother's Day 💐. I can relate to your loss, my mother passed away in 1988. Know that your mom is smiling down on you 😊. Take care ❣️
I love this channel but i hate how i pay for no add and yet, everyone is putting ads in their videos still, majority of this video was an ad and i hate it.
Beautiful video! You look so lovely in your dress, and I loved what you had to say at the end about making a home! You are so sweet to model clothing and share tips! If ever you have a piece that has a difficult spot, say... doesn't lay flat, fashion tape will give it a fix!
Sarah, you always look so classy in what ever you wear. Your style resonates well with so much of what I lean towards. Now with that being said: I have to go get my itched water and class container to put by my bed stand. I just said the other day, I get thirsty sometime in the night and it would be nice to put water on my nightstand. Every time I watch your channel I get out some things I have and display them and it tells stories of my past and they can also be functional as well.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home and style with us, Sarah! Your style and dress is lovely and very true about sleeping on silk, especially a silk pillowcase. Have you ever slept in linen sheets, or worn linen clothing? Simply ever so healing and amazing for our bodies. I too, echo what many have said below, the art of simple living of days gone by, but truly to have a keep a home, homemaking is coming back for those of us who understand and appreciate such in life. 💕
What a beautiful episode. I totally agree about creating a lovely home. These tips are wonderful and great stepping off points for people wanting to make their home a sanctuary.
If you’ve ever studied the elusive mysterious Tartarian age, which supposedly never existed, you will ache to live like that. I believe that is the feeling you have captured, and that I also strive to emulate.
Living a more mindful way is something i try and do. I write letters , i take the time to enjoy my home and not rush through life. Thanks for showing us to put some elegance in our life.
I have jewelry from both grandmothers. It helps keep them close. I don’t think I will do the silk bedding because it would be too hot for my husband but those silk clothes are spectacular and I will be saving up for some of them.
Don’t confuse silk with satin. Silk is great for bedding bc it’s a natural fiber and very breatheable. I sleep hot and that’s why the silk pillowcases are a year round must for me.
@@marticooper4468 I’m not. I’m a seamstress. I know the difference. Believe me when I tell you that it would be too hot for him right now. He has some health concerns that make him run extremely hot. Once we can figure out how to resolve them, I can start investing in the real silk. I purchased some linen sheets today to see how they do. Real silk is also way too far out of our budget right now. One step at a time.
I love that you shared that you wear your mom’s jewelry & perfume to feel like she is still with you. My mom was just diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer & I am so afraid to lose her. I have young children (2 & 4) & those are things I can do to help keep her memory alive with my boys, after Jesus calls her home. God bless you, you will be in my prayers. 💜
I like the idea of silk pillow cases but can’t imagine I’d like the shiny, glossy look. Yours looked more matte like a bamboo or microfiber. Are you using the underside or what made it look more matte?
Interesting topic - thank you. We are in the beginning phase of designing our new tiny home 34' x 20' with a full loft for crafting and guests and a garage with a separate workshop. Thank you, btw...I found the manual doorbell and have bookmarked it. Thanks for the great tips - even though we live aboard our sailboat I have been able to incorporate many of your ideas already, minus the chandeliers of course. :) I do look forward to living on land again after 11 years. I love your channel.
I am all about little lamps and pools of soft lighting everywhere. Even in my kitchen. And , for me, life is to short for unlit candles. Love the real flame and fragrance of a real candle. As for texting. I am 73 and remember, as a teenager, how I loved boxed stationary and cards and beautiful pens. I would even ask for sets for Christmas. And they were so affordable at Woolworths . I kept them in a beautiful wood carved box. A bedside carafe is such simple elegance. Home is where you can exhale. To be our true authentic selves.
I love that you went to fashion 👏👏👏💖 You have done an amazing job! Thank you! I've been seeing the silk pillowcases everywhere lately but until now I had no desire to purchase them, now I Will! ❤
Love the emphasis on elegance! Sadly, I am terribly allergic to silk! Rash like welts, eyes swollen closed. But you look absolutely lovely! Enjoying vicariously!
Look at Pooky USA lighting. They have the most elegant cordless, rechargeable lamps. One would look fantastic on the top of your piano to add some light to that wall. Just a thought.
Me too! I feel so much better in a home that has a touch of quiet elegance to it. Produces those same feelings you get when you're in a really nice hotel. You bring a bit of that home and chefs kiss. We deserve it. ❤😊
It depends on how you sleep and your budget. Linen sheets are better for those who sleep how and it’s less expensive. Silk sheets would get destroyed in my house because my husband sweats a lot while he sleeps. I’m about to buy a linen set to see if he can be cooler.
I love your ideas for these touches to improve everyday living! Did you use some sort of aging technique on the holders that come with the battery candles or are your holders something other than the ones on the listing?
Hi, in your opening, there is a lovely metal bed. Do you remember where you found it? What it was it called? I have been searching for a very sturdy king or queen sized bed that must go in front of our windows. Trying not to block them to much.
You do realize that EVERY influencer does this😒? It's one of the ways they make money so they can continue bringing us content. 😐 EVERY channel that I follow has sponsors. You can choose to ignore it, as I often do, or use it as an opportunity to treat yourself or someone you love, which I've also done. It's how I've learned about a few brands that I now love, Brookelinen being one of them. One influencer that I follow began her own candle line where candles sell for $50! This bummed a lot of folks that could not afford them. I have now purchased 5 of her candles. Her candles sold out the month she launched. Some of us appreciate the content and realize NOTHING is free, so we CHOOSE to support them how we can so they can earn money and keep the content coming. Content creating IS A BUSINESS and many do it full- time. Some of you need a reality check about how content creating works! You dont just come here to just SELFISHLY take ideas for yourself, but to also pour back into these creators ad a thank you! I try to support them periodically by buying something from their channel as a thank you! I would much rather they earn the commission instead of some corporate marketing firm. At least she actually wears or uses the items herself, which I prefer. Sell me the things you actually love yourself. Instead of using predatory marketing (corp. firms) to get me to buy low quality garbage. She seems very honest. Her channel is balanced where she thrifts and buys new. I appreciate both. I don't want everything to always have to be thrifted. And I appreciate tips on where to buy higher quality. If you don't wanna buy, just ignore it and follow the rest of what she does.
