"Will this photo matter in 5 years?" So powerful!! I've gone through multiple drive failures, multiple recoveries and I am a massive offender to saving way way way too many things!! Now I've been sorting through my stuff for ages and it feels neverending, and recently I've begun to think of all the photos I chose to keep that I don't care for- such as images that just don't matter. I also was pursuing video game content creation for awhile so I have a TON of videos that I have saved that are just entirely useless. It's a nightmare! I do have a solid folder system right now, I just need to spend more time buckling down and getting through this crap.
I've been chipping away at mine for quite a while, but I think the whole idea of thinking 'will this matter in 5 years?' outs a whole new slant on things. Thank you and many blessings x x x P.S your hair looks really beautiful - you have a very talented 7 year old x
One suggestion, eliminate pictures at the point of taking it. Not point spending load of time fixing it later. Yes a good option will it matter in 5 years time is a good start.
My cloud app shows me an "on this day" compilation of photos I've taken. Every day I go through it and delete photos and videos I don't want or have no idea why I took in the first place. I get rid of quite a bit every day. When my "cloud" synchs with all my devices, the deletions supposedly happen there as well. No idea how it happens as I have not ever set anything up to do it but I'll take this wondrous magic. My plan is to combine and declutter all the digital and make a few themed photo books or at least some themed slide shows or something. I work on my printed photos when I'm sitting around being bored. They are all in those Michael's photo boxes so it is easy to have one sitting next to my comfy chair. They are set up by date because they were still in the developing envelopes and I always developed my film right away. The negatives are in a big box and I'll probably toss them if I ever scan in all my prints.
Interesting video, some of these tips don't really work though because I like to save text conversations with my friends that make me laugh or smile. I also do nature photography so those tree and sky pictures mean a lot to me.
This video was great from the beginning. Your attitude relaxed me, even if I was internally screaming for the mess in my Google Photo account just one minute before watching it. Thank you!
Huh. I opened up the video and the first thing I thought was, Your hair looks really nice today - soft and loose and slightly wavy - Very free-flowing! Good job, daughter-unit! :-D
Thank you so much, Laura!! My favorite blue sky picture was in April. It was during lockdown, and there was hardly any activity. Less pollution. I live in Southern California, and this was beautiful. So that is special. Your video may be what I need to go through my mom’s pictures. Many of them are duplicates of my wedding. And they used to give a replicate when you developed film Looking forward to your video on the office. That pile, on my right, has existed on my right so nice I started homework in 1st grade! I wish I knew how much your Clutter acutely cost. Knowing there’s a discount is great, but I don’t know the cost without signing up. So I don’t check it out
Yes, there are a few 'blue sky' pictures that have special meanings. 🙂 Full price for the course is currently $197, but the discount gets you $50 off so the total would only be $147.
Oh god I need this And I need to not pay Apple $10/month for 2TB of cloud data just because I haven’t gone thru all my old photos and videos from the past…… 7 years lmao
Labeling/Text ON the photo. I need a photo editor application that will allow me to write on multiple pictures at the same time. Why? I have 15 thousand photos that I am organizing and don’t have the time to be labeling them one by one. The organizing is mostly done already. Among the photos there are trips to Europe in which we visited multiple cities. Want to be able to label the photos taken in chronological order and by location. I already have the photos in the right year and the right month, just want to be able to label them by location within the month I took the picture, following the sequence of the itinerary. I don’t need photo enhancing features for now. That can come later. Just want to be able to place text on the photo that describe the date, location and persons in the photo. While I have the information on the photo file, if I am presenting the photo in a slide show the viewer cannot see the information. The bulk of these photos have been digitized, which means they were not originally digital photos. This means that the properties feature of digital photos is not available in this converted photos. I have organized in files by year and by month (1-12) 15 thousand photos. Most of these photos have been scanned, because digital did not existed in the 80s and 90s. Ten years from now (when we are gone), our children are not going to know where and when the picture was taken, and in some cases, who is in the picture.
I’m not aware of any software that would allow you to write text on multiple photos at a time, unfortunately. You’d have to add text to one and then copy and paste it to all the other relevant photos.
I have just finished deleting my screenshots. They were from March (2020) until today. I didn't think there were many. How wrong was I? I have deleted 475 screenshots!!! I've got 90 left most if which are recipes or items I'm thinking of buying.... But OMG!!! 😳
Really appreciate this Laura! It really bugged me how chaotic and excessive my photos/videos were in my phone gallery app. This is a great starting point and has inspired me with an approach. Many thanks 👍
Google photos will eventually fill up and so I stopped using it. The only “free” solution is storing on your computer or external hard drive. Im working on having my favorites printed, at Walmart it’s $.12 per photo.
This is a big problem for me.I have this weird OCD where I feel if my gallery is cluttered, then my mind is cluttered in some way.Thank you for all tips!
Charming moment to see you and your sweetie in the nostalgic photo!!1🤗 I admit memoribila is one of my hardest declutter categories. But some things are just good to keep and reminisce. Be it in phones, a photo album or a memory box , whatever. And it's especially nice to show your children so they can understand their family history as well. Talk about bringing "Joy".💗💗👍💯😊
LOL @ your username. I love it! Your video has given me the motivation to continue sorting. I have 1000s of photos to go through. Thank you for making this video.
Great suggestions! I really didn't want to watch this video...cause I really needed to watch this video. 🥴 I feel like I can do the clean it up now....thanks so much!
Great video! I have learned a lot from you. I help a number of small businesses with their IT systems and send out a regular email to tell them for all devices to backup their data, update their computer, update their tax records and balance sheet, and perform a virus check at the end of the month. I am also working on what is called a semantic file system, where files can be found by what they contain rather than the file name - but it's a work in progress. Your hair looks great, Scout shows a great talent.
Photos are my clutter stress area. I have two large storage crates with photos and hard drives of photos. Plus enough stored on the Cloud that I am paying for storage. Most are of family and kids. I am slowly curating my collection, but man, it is a slow slog!
It's my last area to declutter. 😅 just did the marie kondo declutter and this is my last spot and I'm done! It's so freeing already can't wait to be fully done
Thanks for the video. Problem: at this point my iphone is not deleting photos when I delete them. How do I actually delete them when I hit "delete" and its not deleting them? Thanks! 4:04
You need to go into the trash folder. Your phone holds them in there for 30 days. Or if they’re literally not deleting it may be because you have an iCloud version stored.
@@HowToGYST Thanks for responding so quickly. I closed the Photos app and started it again, and it seemed to work again 🙂. I think it was either acting up, or becuase I have so little space, it wasn't responding. But thank you for your suggestions! (I don't have iCloud, but thanks. :-) )
About 5 or 6 years ago I decided to just stop taking any pictures. Never regretted my decision. If I really ever need a photo of an event or something, you bet that my friends have hundreds to choose from. Of course, this method is probably not for people who have children, I guess you will want to have pictures of your family... For my life style, it works perfectly and I enjoy not having digital clutter that costs you hours to keep in check or to clear out. I can recommend this approach, it is so freeing. Maybe as an experiment first to get a feel for it. Great video series, Laura!
Good for you! A large chunk of mine are work related but I'm getting much better at clearing most of them out afterwards. It's just gonna require time and persistence. =)
I used to be the yearbook advisor at our school - taking and sorting photos all the time, it seemed. Quickly realized, photographing my son's soccer games, that I wasn't enjoying simply being his mom at his game. Now I take time to pause and enjoy the scene/moment/event with my whole self, no camera interfering. Yes, so freeing!
I am reluctant to do this digitally because I didn't back up my computer photos and subsequently lost photos from January 2011 to 2013. But I will see how many digital photos I can delete which are insignificant. I take many photos of food: cooking accomplishments, photos which include foods I was given, etc. I share these with my friends and family. I am a pet sitter, so I take numerous photos of my client's pets to share with her. Most of these can go, too. Thank you!
I keep one screen shot on my phone. It’s is a size guide for blankets. I crochet blankets so it’s easy to pull it up on my phone. But I got rid of all the others.
Brilliant! I'm so looking forward to tomorrow because I went from laptop to MacBook and I can't open the files. I've got the only clips of my Granddaughter in the sack race at nursery.😂 She's 16 now.😂😂😂 Love the hair.💖
OMG! Now you are getting into my territory. I actually have 3 4TB drives, 1 3TB drive, 1 2TB drive, and several 1 and .5 TB drives full of crap..... Granted I'm a 3D artists but there are digital things I go nutso over just cuz I can get them free.....
