I sent back a total of 6 Peace dollars and a total of 6 Morgans, ordered 3 more Morgans and kept all of them 🙂. Thanks for watching, and thanks for the message!
That circular "discoloration" you described was also the description used by another RU-vidr ab his coins. He says that the circular mark was from the suction cup at the mint they use to pick the coins up. I have it on mine too.
NGC Alone has already graded over 10k of these coins at a grade of 70.....Coming straight from the mint.....they are all gonna be 69's and 70's......and the comment about them being cheap on eBay is true......I saw one selling for 83.99 for a graded 70 and they are probably gonna go even lower. 69's and 70's is gonna be the standard grade for these coins.
Yep I agree, I just want one Morgan proof graded at a 70 for my collection. They minted far too many of these to make them have any good value much beyond bullion prices. Just like you mentioned, I'm watching eBay for a cheap PR70 Morgan.
It's easier and less stressful to buy them them already in the holder and grade you want. You send them in yourself for grading and you'll likely get lopsided allotment of 69 graded coins with the rest of the small time players. Running the gauntlet of both the US Mint and grading company as a non favored status commercial player and it seems your chances of being sent coins from the B stock stack increase quite a bit.
I agree with you on these because I don't think they'll carry a huge premium like three 2021s. Maybe just higher than the grading fees for these 2023s for a PR70?
@@JoshuaAndersonLife One 70 graded of each Morgan and Peace Dollars(4 total) costs me $570 from Pinehurst on presale, average cost $142.. I think is it worth it to me because I'd rather not want to play the coin grading game, which I feel is rigged against the small time collectors. The amount of time it takes and the risk you have to accept just isn't worth it doing it yourself with these low margin modern coins. I recall the 2021s started off at a good price to buy them already graded but as time past, the prices started to rise.
Send them back , they are selling for as low as $88 on E-Bay with Seller paying for shipping . They charged to much for them to begin with . Where' the Q.C. department .....
They both are beautiful in proof but, with the frosting of the raised portions of the obverse and reverse, you do loose some of the fine detail of engraving, like the breast feathers of the eagle on the reverse of the Morgan’s. I understand that’s not a flaw but part of the process. That’s why I do like the uncirculated coins for their own reasons as well.
I agree 100%! In general they really are beautiful as Morgan Dollars are in general, but it's like it was just overdone in a way that it's now just leaning more towards a silver round than a resemblance of the old currency.
I ended up sending back all of Peace and Morgan dollars I got. I did however order 3 more of the Morgans and all of them at first glance look pretty good. Chances are all just go ahead and keep those. I'm most excited for the reverse proofs however, did you happen to subscribe for those?
Hi the zoom in to appreciate the coins is great , what camera or device do you use ? You are absolutely right better to just keep them with out grade it them, 🙂👍👍
Thank you very much for the feedback! I'm actually just using my Samsung Galaxy s23 ultra for the videos. Believe it or not I decided to send all of these back to the mint for a full refund. I'll be posting an open box video on the Morgan Dollar proofs here later today most likely with a bit more of an explanation.
@@JoshuaAndersonLife Thanks to you for the reply, I did get my order of Morgan's and Peace Silver coins this morning and tomorrow I will open them to make sure they didn't mess my order and make sure the coins deserve a place in my collection, Thanks for your time doing this video.
Sorry that they couldn't get it right, we are paying high enough for them as it is, only for them to show up like that is sad. I have one on order, will have to wait and see. Good luck with the rest.
The one that you claimed was “ dinged “ up was or shall I say is a bit of “ fluf” or the underside of the capsule. If it was on the coin, then you would not be able to see a reflection on the coin.
I did end up taking every single one of them out of the capsules and to check them out. Virtually every single one of them had some sort of a blemish on the coin unfortunately. I ended up sending them all back. I have three more of the Morgans coming today so we'll see how those are. At this point I'm the most excited for the reverse proofs, did you happen to subscribe for any of those?
I got three of each , and all of them have issues , my son got three of each unfortunately they all got issues , we are sending them back for a refund . I ordered two sets from EBay pr 70’s w special “ Labels “ even though I paid much more but at least they got the highest grade .
Yeah, it's a bummer, but I plan on doing the exact same thing. Did you happen to place a subscription for the reverse proofs? I am more hopeful for those, and also hoping they will mint less of them.
I'm wondering the exact same thing! I'm hoping we should have better luck with the reverse proofs. The frosted areas of these seem to have more durability and less chance of small dings and scratches. And the proof areas hopefully will have a smaller area for dings and scratches they usually occur in the fields. But we'll see 🤷♂️
@@johncook8238 I agree on this, I think they have a higher likelihood of coming out with fewer imperfections because of the proof being on the devices.
It seems like the San Francisco and New Orleans mint made nicer Morgans back in the 1880's and 90's !?!?! Ever noticed how NO uncirculated Morgan or Peace dollar coins EVER have a "proof-like" finish lately...let alone actually get graded as such...WHY is that !?!?!
I did return all of them, but I'm hoping to buy one in an MS70 holder for around $120 or less once people start selling them graded. Maybe I'll order more, mine were just not nice enough though to keep. Hoping I didn't make the wrong decision..?
Why are you not buying them already graded MS70 then you would not be going thru this bad case scenario. These coins you ordered look rough at best are also not keepers. If you want MS 70 in Morgan and Peace Reverse Proof be prepared to pay around $199.00 per coin.
Ultimately I enjoy ordering them from the mint and seeing what I get. Not a big deal if I have to send some back in hopes to get one that I think will grade a 70. I have less interest in these proofs as well as they are very high mintage. The reverse proofs on the other hand I believe will have a much lower mintage and should also likely come in a better condition, but we'll see.
"In the 1920s it was a common affectation for artists to use the Latin alphabet for items that were designed in the Classical style. Latin doesn't have the letter U; V was both a vowel and consonant like our use of the letter Y. You had to figure out the sound from the context in which the letter was used. Both dollars and quarters from that era used the Latin spelling so they both read TRVST. In addition many buildings and other artwork from that era were all lettered with the Roman alphabet."
I purchased 5 2023 Morgans and two have dings in the obverse between the 2 and 3. Another has a scrape on the reverse. What is with the quality from the mint?
Yeah it's not like buying something like American Silver Eagles from the mint that tend to come in tubes and are more oftentimes going to be a high percent of MS70 grade. These are all individually handled and seem to have a fair number of blemishes. I suppose there's a chance it's somewhat intentional so that they aren't all receiving a perfect grade. 🤷♂️
@@JoshuaAndersonLife I have never had multiple coins with errors, from the mint before. That is how I found your video, because I wanted to see if anyone else had the same issue. Sure enough... thank you for posting! I did have better luck with the New Zealand mint. Just received my Silver Star Wars Trading collection box today. Had an ultra rare new hope card. woohoo! Came flawless, no errors. So, I've got that going for me.
@@JoshuaAndersonLife As collectors, do we even WANT all of them to come with a 69 1/2 or 70 grade, do we? (I started to say there's no such thing as 69 1/2, but they have those + grades now that are effectively that, though I have not seen any modern Morgans with that grade...)
@@shawn951951 That's great! I just opened six of the Morgan proofs and I'm going to send back every single one of the Peace dollars and Morgan's unfortunately. I plan to just find an MS70 graded for each on eBay once they're available.
Man I'm sorry that's a real bummer. This is the first video I have seen with flawed coins. Makes you wonder how many more are going to be flawed. I don't think the mint came anywhere close to selling out. only time will tell.
You can't really expect all of them to be flawless. If you want premium bullion buy gold. $2500 coins are plucked by gloved hands. $100 Silver is not, even if proof. They make to many for that.
I will say that seeing as how I ordered quite a few of the 2021s at first I was disappointed in the quality, but then it made it exciting to find a few that passed for MS70. Especially since they minted much fewer of those than these current Morgans. It looks like they're going to continue to mint these every year moving forward at this point. Any of the basics past the 2021s are going to be worth their weight in metal more or less. These proofs are not going to hold much premium unless they're probably in a MS70 slab from PCGS or NGC. I don't believe I've seen how many they plan to mint of the reverse proofs but that's the last thing I'm holding out for and then will likely be done buying these Morgan's altogether.
