Great review as always. I was cringing the entire time you were swapping those straps. I could feel your pain. Can't wait for the 1700 review, looks like a very interesting reference!
this is undoubtedly a versatile watch, this one gives different vibes with different outfits!! personally i dont like golden watches but i sometimes see people wearing them and that goes well with their fits!!
Good stuff, Tamjeed! 👌 Much respect to you for having your own preferences, but not judging others for theirs, even if it's different. Thanks for weighing in! 🙏
@@goatreviews It's just about understanding that everyone's different, and that's what makes life interesting, right? Waiting for more of ur content, one of my favorite watch channels indeed.
The case is made of resin to position this watch in a different price range. If it were made of steel, the work during production would be more than for a molded one. So they can make sense of the price of models that have modules with inferior functions but steel and mineral glass cases (the true vintage reissues).
I can appreciate that it may increase the production work. I don't know much about manufacturing, but I guess I thought the difference wouldn't be THAT much more to go with steel. My opinion on the price of this watch in Australia, is that it doesn't fall into the "Cheap Enough" category that I would expect it to be made of Resin. For some reason, the gold coloured versions are more expensive than silver (Which doesn't make sense to me as it's all resin anyway 😄). I understand your points. Thanks for your insight on this, Fratellini! 🙏
This is actually a reissue of the A-300U and while that watch also had a chrome plated resin case, an actual steel case would have been a nice addition.
The A500 is in my opinion the best retro digital watch in the current Casio line. I understand the appeal of the "Royale", but the LCA is very small, and all the plastic segments that divide the screen are too intrusive. All those problems are fixed in the A500, with the sacrifice of WR. I have the silver version, with the greenish world map, and I love it. Great review, thanks for sharing it!
Brilliant. I've never heard these points regarding the Royale, especially the plastic segments! Fascinating. I do agree that the LCA display of the Royale is more of a 'gimmick' complication to me, as the Digital Time is right there at a glance. (this is exactly what I said about the LF-20W too in its review). You're right, the decreased WR rating won't be a problem for many people, who at most simply want to be able to keep it on in the shower 👌 Thanks so much for providing your insights, Julian! 🙏
My first Casio had the same strap, personally I love it and is easily one of my most favorite stock watch bands. I have to admit that after seeing the A500W I've been wating one more and more. Might have to pick one up to replace my orginal Casio.
Awesome! Which colour do you have it in, and remind me - Which model was your first Casio? 😄 Yep. The A500W is a really nice watch my friend, one that I'm so glad to own. 🤩👌
@@goatreviews My first ever watch was a A159WGEA-9 in gold. At the time i felt it was a bit small so 2-3 years later i got a larger gold colored watch but i felt like i never got the same charm and look like from the Casio. But this A500W looks like what I need, It now has a place on the wishlist ;)
@@GummiRobbi Awesome!! 🙌 So you started with a classic 😁 You’re right - this one has a slightly larger look than the classic 3-button models. Going back to your Discord comment about whether to do a mod kit on your original A159 to freshen it up… Now a new consideration arises: Might an A500W fill this need instead? And what would be the price difference? 🤔
No problem, Reno! 👌 I would be VERY surprised if the A500 module would fit properly in the AE-1200 case - as it's a very precise set of dimensions. That would have been really cool though, as there's heaps of mod kits for the AE-1200! 😎
I don't expect it to 'fade', but potentially scratch or 'flake' off after being knocked (from what I've heard). I'll try be careful with it for as long as I can to prevent this 😄👌
I thought it looked best on the original strap but good to see how other straps looked and felt. Ultimately, the updated bracelet mod does seem to work great! How would you compare this in size vs the gold A168 and silver AE1200? I love the former, just find it a tad small and looking for something similar, but larger in gold. And please stop wearing it to play beach volleyball, or to the beach at all…unless it’s just for cocktails 🍹 lol. Those scratches 😣
Cheers Jay, I tend to agree! 👌 That being said, I still wasn’t happy with the arm-hair pulling of the OG strap, so ended up swapping it to one I’m MUCH happier with here: ru-vid.comJEE5CwOO9Uk I haven’t unboxed my A168 yet so I can’t compare the size to that, but it feels a bit bigger than an F-91W but not quite as big as an AE-1200 😁👌 FYI dimensions are as follows: (L× W× H). 39 × 34 × 9.6 mm Oh yeah - I regret doing that now 😂 Thanks for the tip - Noted 😁👌
6:30 Besides cost saving, also to make it lighter and more comfortable to wear Machining such a shape out of metal gets expensive and would make adhering the crystal difficult. And again, the clasp is probably left silver for keeping the tolerances of the locking mechanism. Mine has lasted fine, even having adjusted it with a fork a few times, but perhaps yours jammed from some sand in it. 8:48 The step down and detail change to the mesh simply look off. To me it looks even worse than my GBX-100 before you added those lug adaptors to it 9:32 That one is actually an improvement over the bracelet that came with my calculator watch. But my opinion stays, as long as it feels comfortable, lasts and doesn't look too offensive, it gets a pass from me. You have to size it by taking out links and only fine-tune with the micro-adjusts under the clasp. It's a relatively involved process and more worthwhile for higher quality solid link bracelets. But if done well, that makes this bracelet the most comfortable, if it doesn't tug hairs then.
6:30 These are great points that I hadn't considered at all! The weight, the comfort... It makes sense. And I'd never have thought about the crystal attachment! I understand your point about the tolerance's of the silver, but something still doesn't feel quite right about it. After seeing your comment, I had a quick look up of the gold A700W strap to see if they went with silver too!... Lo and behold, they did. Maybe it is the tolerances after all! 8:48 Agreed! It was a rather confronting step-down! 😂 9:32 Good lord, I'd hate to feel how bad that calculator strap watch was! Feel free to chuck some pictures in our Discord if you've still got it lying around 😁 I'm telling you though man, the video doesn't do it justice - The quality of this strap was ABYSMAL. I do agree though, I could have attempted to take out some of the links instead of just going berserk and maxing out the micro adjust - But for a strap that felt like this, I wasn't even considering investing the time. Thanks so much for your thoughtful and well articulated response, RedWyvern! 🙏
Casio has demonstrated that it can make metal cased watches at a not too expensive price point so that resin case point is redundant. Also, the gold chrome plating carrying a premium over the silver doesn't make much sense at all.
Oh man… Both are such cool watches! 🤩 The A100 is really unique with its front facing buttons, and has some nice colourways available. The price can be quite decent as well! But the A500W looks very classic, and features the world map display. Very functional! 👌 Which one is pulling you the most?
Wow some Golden guff right there! Still unsure about the gold but if you like it buddy that's all that matters! As for the next WOTW I've not seen that Casio before so looking forward to that! 😁👌
Good on ya Paul 😁 I'm loving it a lot - and you're right - as the wearer, that's all that matters! 😜 Awesome! I'm glad your hyped for the WS-1700, it looks like a beast, right?! 🤩
Wow, really?! This would be amazing if true! 🤩 Having a look now - It seems the "band" is listed as stainless steel, but I can't see this for the case itself 👀
Oh my, yes!! Yesterday I saw a Facebook video someone made with the WS-1700 Module in the AE1200! I am so hyped about this. It opens the door for so much! 🤩
Oh man, I totally feel your pain, Paul! 🫡 The prices here in Australia are outrageous too!! I’ve just done recording my unboxing video, and go through how I got mine and how you might get one for a bit cheaper. Stay tuned! 🙏👀
To be honest, they made resin cases to cut down prices (and weight) and scrap money out of us. The gold plating will crack off or scratch, leaving the wonderful plastic exposed. If you are lucky enough, only the plating on the -terrible- bracelet will fade away, but it will look in no time like an old teared watch. Is something worth in those watches? To be honest, only the movement, they're disposable fashion accessories, after the summer you can throw them away. I think it's kinda sad to be honest, I have some Casio from late '70's and they still beat great with stainless steel case and a similar bracelet. Is it possible they can't improve the bracelets or the cases after 40+ years of production and know-how? Yeah, you're right, they are looking more on the money than on the people, sad to admit but true 😢
Thanks so much for this explanation Bruno! 🙏 I'm yet to experience one of these plated-cases long term, nor a steel-cased classic Casio... 🤔💭 But I look forward to both! It's an interesting point you make about these being 'disposable fashion accessories'. While I don't necessarily agree it's true with Casio's, it's apparent that a lot of products in the overall market are made for "planned obsolescence", where it is intended to wear out after a set time to encourage people to buy another. Quite sad, really. Thankfully, G-Shocks on the other hand, are built for the exact OPPOSITE of this, which is something I truly appreciate 😁
@goatreviews awesome thinking of getting one myself as its very similar to the very rare and expensive strap that is missing from my vintage Seiko digital watch! Looking forward to seeing that think I will like it then maybe!
@@paulmcnamara2908 Oooh, brilliant! Not to worry my friend, I’ll be sure to record a video or short so you can check it out and see if it suits your needs. 😉 If it’s anything like the silver one I got from AliExpress, it’s overall really good but a SLIGHT size difference on the final link, so it touches against the bezel unlike the original. Let’s hope this Gold one from a different seller has fixed that! 👌
@@pellelarsson6887 absolutely! It’s a massive step up haha. 👌 I guess they’re housing the module in a bezel with better pushers and gaskets, which must keep out the water even better! 😁
LOL - This is hilarious 🤣 Thanks for sharing this, Pedro 🙏 Speaking of Sleepy Joe, this reminded me of the “Presidents decide on the best watch” video, which you may find amusing: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EDqUfe4knNk.html
I would love to have these features too 🤩 From what I have heard, the cost of making the bezel from steel would add substantial cost to the watch. In my opinion, the price of this watch is already a little bit more expensive than it should be (in Australia at least). I’m convinced that the price to upgrade the crystal would be WELL worth it 👌 Thanks for weighing in, Nai! 🙏
This is a valid point, Peter! 🙏 It’s absolutely not a sports watch. 💯 To remain consistent with my testing, I do like to wear the non-sporty watches on the field anyway! 😁
