Thank you for doing an adult version. I could not see myself at work with my hair in 12 sections and bound together as you did for your little girls. I have worn twists in the past and like that look so this fit perfectly with what I like.
I washed/conditioned my hair today and threaded when I was done. Nadine…it’s AMAZING!!! I feel like I’ve been under a rock! I reeeeally like the stretch. Can’t wait to take it down and see the results. I plan to thread again in a few days for maximum stretch. Thanks so much for the detailed tutorial.
Yes, you can swim with it. The thread stops it from shrinking as it would with twists. Just be careful not to manipulate too much when washing. I've put info on how I wash and maintain in the description box below the video.
Kids are about to be out of school and I will have all day to work on this without having to stop and go somewhere. I hope I can make it as neat as yours.
Sorry it's taken me a while to get back. In the African Threading video (vid#9) I show a close up of how I do the knot. I'll put a link in the description area. It works perfectly under wigs. I've done it and my mum did it all the time. I believe it really promotes growth, because it does more of a thorough job of stretching out your hair preventing knots and tangles. I do have a detangling video, so check that out - vid#1. I usually use a slightly wider toothed comb, I was just being lazy ;)x
I appreciate your tutorials. I work a very unpredictable schedule, so it's very hard to find time to do my daughter's hair. I will be trying these techniques for their first day of school.
Oh my.., I love it!! I where twist often and, yes,, mine last about a week before they need to be redone. I am sooo sold on the African threading technique!!! I can't wait when I'm able to try it!!!
I know this video was along time ago, I hope you do not stop making hair videos. You have helped me so much and you brought me back to my roots all the way to Haiti. I love every hairstyle you do sis.
eH eH my Ghanaina sista thank you very much, I'm trying to grow out my hair from all the perms and texturizing of the past decade. Your vids a great inspiration and help, thanks - God bless
Awesome. I learned how to do this threading from one of your videos and love to do my daughters hair this way. Now to practice on mine. Thanks for the video.
Ha ha! Don't you just love those wayward twists? :). No breakage from threading. It's actually a great length retainer. I use weave thread. The same stuff they use to sew-in weave extensions. You can buy it from any hair and beauty supply store (usually behind the counter). x
I had my baby last year and my already thin hairline is now even thinner as well. It looks just like yours..you don't know how much better I feel! Great vid, and a smooth and speedy birth to you!
I first watched this when I was transitioning. After a year of the transition, I cut off what was left of my relaxed hair. This is my second month continuously protective styling and as I am challenging myself to continue to the end of the year, I intend to try African Threading soon. Did it as a minor but never in adulthood. As my hair is only about 4 inches, Im a lil nervous about how it'll look but willing to try. THANKS for great tutorial!
Yes you can. Click on the "About" tab in the information area below the video. I give a step by step on how I wash my hair when it's in these braids. :)
So I finally got around to trying African threading on my hair. I saved this video in my favorites so I can come back a refer to it when I was ready. I pretty much got the hang of it but I have yet to get the knot perfected when I get to the end. Thanks again! I refuse to use heat so I'm happy to find this technique!! Thanks for sharing!! Oh I'm a subscriber!!
You are so beautiful and that accent is wonderful. I love this tut and I shared it on my Facebook page because I know some of my friends are going natural or are transitioning. I am going to try this in the winter months. People say that Florida doesn't get cold...OH YES IT DOES! No co-washing in the winter, but this looks easy enough that I can do it. Thanks!
Lovely as usual, Nadine. Unfortunately, when I tried African threading on my hair, the thread got really tangled into my hair. ( I have super dense hair but really fine strands). Do you have any tips as to how to prevent that? Thicker thread? Soaking the thread in oil?
Thanks for making this video, had he big chop 1.5yrs ago & I want to give my hair a break from braiding,I run out of ideas until I watched your video so thank you for this. I'm off to thread😃
No problem! :) When I get to the end I wrap the thread around my thumb, to hold open a loop and then thread it through. It's really hard to explain it in words. I do show a close up of it in the African Threading tutorial (vid#9). I think I'm going to do a faq video specifically for threading, because I get this question a lot. I hope watching the video helps, if not, look out for an faq vid coming soon.
Girlsloveyourcurls, I greatly thank you for putting out this video. I have been spending the entire wknd reviewing your videos & making note of the technique so i avoid too much tension and unraveling to get the best results. As soon as I have leisure time I will begin stretching my hair as apart of my hair regimen. I am now waaaay to anxious to try it out. Anything to protect my hair and keep it away from heat and chemicals WILL PROMOTE GROWTH. Thanks for sharing.
this is an awesome tutorial, and its so much more uniform and defined that two strand twist, plus it looks like a twist out already! thanks for sharing. I will attempt this one day,But I am not sure how you tie off the ends.
lovely style, very neat and even!! i miss african threading, when i see my aunt in France this summer, i hope she can do my hair, my mum is hopeless at this, but i know how to do other people's hair, not my own! :) i am always doing my hair like you, a bit at a time, whenever i can fit it in, i bantu knotted half my hair last night, just finished the rest today, for a knotout this weekend! :) xx
Absolutely. You wouldn't get as much 'hang', but it can be done. In the past, when I'd done a big chop and wanted the look I'd add extensions. It was fantastic for growing out my hair or transitioning. Hmm, I need to do a video on that. :)
My mum used to do my hair with the waxy black string. Can't find that one so I use the weave thread. I love your videos and I just subscribed! This style you made is so beautiful!!!
Wow this is sooo cute! it reminds me of my childhood! I used to love thread breads, this day made them even plated and stuff. Hers we a bit too tight, urs look nice and comfortable to wear! If I got a tip I would like to share, threads tend to pull on the hair and leave it very dry (though it leaves hair extra stretched!!) so I found that adding some olive oil on the thread before using it really helps- in addition to having well moisturized hair...
Wow...never heard of this technique before! I just bought an electric hot comb to straighten my hair and was looking for some tutorial vids when I came across your tutorial. So glad I did...this looks like a great technique. I am going to run my hot comb back to the store, buy some weave thread and try this technique tonight. Mahalo!!!
You look gorgeous! I've quickly become a huge fan of your video tutorials. I have the exact same hair type & issues as you regarding thinning. Believe me, after 2 children, I can truly relate. I am in love with this technique/style. I must go get that weave thread. I have some, but not enough. Once again, thanks for a excellent video tutorial. I'll be watching. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for this video! I am looking for low maintenance styles I love that this lasts so long and I can do different styles with it ---the look just like twists. This takes me back to childhood although my mum would wrap the thread tighter so each piece of hair was stiff.
Thank you! The hairline thing is a pain. When I remember to spritz with water and seal with Jamaican black castor oil, it does actually improve. It's just with pregnancy brain, I always forget. :)
great tutorial. your hair looks gorgeaous. i can't wait to try it. though my hair is not as long or thick as yours, i still intend to try it. will make a good protective style. Thanks for sharing.
This looks just like twists! I'm ashamed to say I purchased thread to try something like this maybe 6-7 years ago :( ... never tried it :( ... maybe when I grow my hair back I will. Thanks so much for this vid.
Thank you! Great question. I've been asked this quite a few times so I've put my wash routine in the description box below the video. Let me know how you get on. :)
Congratulations my dear!!!! I wish GOD will also give me such a big family :) So thankfull for this video! Can't wait to see new bondle of joy! Take care!
I love your vids and I am so glad you finally uploaded this tut. I am def. going to try this next time I do twists. Thanks and congrats on another baby!
:) Oh no! Honestly, African threading is MUCH easier to learn on someone else first. If you don't have someone you can practice on, I'd get a cheap doll and practice getting the hand rhythm down first. I learnt on my own hair as a child and it wasn't pretty, but I was a child and didn't care as much about looking crazy in public...lol. There is a bit of a learning curve, but keep practicing, because once you get it, you'll LOVE the ease and quickness of it. Keep me posted on your progress! :) x
