Thought I’d share my little story of sorts here. It was my first time playing ARMA, I had booted up the game and headed straight into the server browser. I had heard good things about the Zeus servers so I hopped on one. I was assigned to a squad by the commander guy and we were given a brief. We were to assault an enemy mobile artillery position on a hill. We loaded on multiple helicopters and off we went. We landed on the hillside and disembarked, we could see the artillery on the other hill ahead. Suddenly, gunshots rain around us, we take cover on a rock. Our radioman decides to call in an air strike, and if like magic, an A-10 appears from the clouds and the deafening roar of the gun erupts over the landscape, the ambush of soldiers were eviscerated. By this time, the mobile artillery had already started evacuating, we only had a short time. Our squad leader screams to get our guided missiles out, there was only 3 remaining in our squad. Crap, I think. I choose the AT role and I have no idea how to use this thing, I guess I will have to do my best. The other AT soldiers equip their missiles and I do the same. We all check behind us, shout clear, then off the missiles tore. They fire through the air like a heavenly being, and land directly into the retreating artillery. However, one of them got away! We couldn’t celebrate, we call for forces in the area to intercept the arty piece, we couldn’t leave a single one, even on their own they can decimate a town. Out of the clouds again, came the A-10 again! With a swift BRRRRRRTTT, the last artillery was down. A cheer erupted in our squad, however, it was not over yet. Our commander contacted us to help take the town the artillery was firing upon, it seemed out forces were having troubles taking it from the CSAT. We swiftly moved into position to assault the town from the CSAT’s flank. We moved through the town eliminating targets quickly and efficiently. Then, out of nowhere, came a CSAT tank! We took cover in a building, the tank hadn’t yet noticed us. Yet, all our AT guy’s had ran out of missiles, except me. The pressure was on. I slid the rocket into the launcher and fired it off, it landed directly into the back of the tank and it erupted into flames. Some soldiers disembarked the broken tank and we quickly opened up with the machine gun and cut them down. After some more fighting, we had pushed into the town and the normal forces secured it. The helicopter in which we had arrived came down to pick us up, we were taken back to base, but not before the A-10 pilot did a little barrel roll over us! We were given a debrief and I left the session. Wow, I thought. I couldn’t imagine what more the game had in store for me next. I look back on that time nearly having six hundred hours on ARMA, it was a great introduction to the game. Thank you, whoever it was that was the Zeus in that game, thank you, you gave me a great experience off the bat. I am really enjoying ARMA now and if it weren’t for that play session I probably would have thought this game just wasn’t for me and I probably would have refunded it.
My introduction to Arma was back in Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead. I played well into 1,100 hours in that and surpassed 2,000 hours recently in Arma 3. I have so many fond memories and some rather intense fights as well.
"I've got an enemy - man - 200 Meters to our front - Close" "Two - Engage that - Man" "ENGAGINNG" Ah good old arma and the inability to make people to sound like people
Somehow, I just don't get bored of reaching the point where you've listened to it on repeat for a couple of hours and every time instead of speech, you just go (0:10)
