I’m glad to see some love for the straight razor. I’m not much for shaving in general, but when I do, I can’t stand doing it with anything but a straight razor. It just makes my skin feel so much better and I get less irritation from regrowth or skin drying out. If anyone out there has never tried it, I highly recommend you take Tony’s advice and find an old timey barber - that’s how I was introduced. My barber while I was stationed in the UK did back of the neck, sideburns, etc. with one, and I never looked back.

I'm with Tony, they're one of my favorite tools - but mine have a V groove longitudinally down one jaw, which for me is partly what makes the tool so useful. The Knipex option is sweet but intended for a very different situation - crudely speaking, it's more crescent wrench than plier, an extension of your arm rather than of your hand.

@squib308
@squib308 5 лет назад
Good to spend the extra cash for a heavier, better handle, IMO. Especially if you tend to shake or twitch. Feather blades are the best. Also, if you get razor bumps the disposables with 5+ blades in them seem to make it worse, just one good pass with safety razor is better.

TOT, congratulations on your well-deserved 500K milestone! At the risk of sounding, well…, “Overly Groomed”, that’s was a snappy strut down the Health and Beauty isle! The irony of your Feather razor blade tip is not wasted on those of us who subscribe to TOT for insights on sharp cutting edges producing fine surface finishes. Following up your nothing-less-than courageous departure from the norm, I would like to add that in my own ongoing search for a remedy to the 3/32 stubble problem, I discovered (while working abroad) that Weleda Shaving Cream works wonders on both the comfort and finish fronts; no nicks or burns and a shave that lasts half a day instead of half a shift. You’re probably not going to find it at your local CVS, but track down a tube. The discriminating will appreciate the difference.

A Double Edge Safety Razors, and the Feather blades are the BEST! The Feather brand is the Sharpest DE (double edge) safety razor blades made today. No surprise they're made in Japan :-) Put those blades with a good butterfly razor (my preference at least) and you got a winning razor combo, that Hands Down will beat ANY and ALL of these "modern" throw away razors. There is a small learning curve to a double edge razor, and a blade that works great for one mans beard might not work as good for someone else. However, with being able to change blades to any brand you wish, it also means you can customize your razor until you get the results you want. I would advise to buy a Assorted pack of blades, then you can try many different brands of blades, until you find the perfect one for you! Double edge and straight razors not only can give you a Much closer shave, but they will also reduce and stop razor burn, bumps, and other irritation... once you learn to use them correctly, and find the right combination of Blade and Shaving cream. And once you learn what you're doing, and you find your favorite brand of blades, you will Never go back :-) And after the initial investment, they are FAR cheaper than "modern" throw away and replacement cartridge junk razors too. Straight razors are cool too. Little more expense, BUT its a One Time expense, and a straight razor can last many many years. Never have to worry about replacing them really, just have to keep them sharp. Either way, you need a good shaving cream. If you (whoever is reading this...?) are still using "shaving cream" out of a aerosol can... you are really missing out. Instead, throw the can out, and find a GOOD lather shaving soap. Then get a lather mug and good brush. A quality lather shaving soap can make a Day and Night difference in shaving. There are some great RU-vid channels about Double Edge and Straight Razors too. As they have become nearly forgotten about by most today.

Congrats! My modernist take on the Optivisor (8:34), is Clic eye glasses, although their most powerful mag is not as high as optivisors go. They are quite a bit more convenient and a wee bit more discreet

When you said 1/128 scale I had to go check. I remembered that HO (Half of O) Model Railroad was also a weird scale. 1:87 An inch = 8'3". Now I remember why I threw away my old toy train.

Love your content Tony! Your dry humor always gets me chuckling and I learn more about life's important facts and skills from you than I have in 7 years of college.

That ice cream joke is extra funny to me. I measure ice cream all the time with calipers at the factory i work at. 😂

Congratulations on reaching 500K. At this rate, maybe you'll reach 1M by 2020. You wouldn't get the subs if you didn't make such awesome videos, so thank you for providing the "edutainment". And thanks to all of the other RU-vidrs for their cameo appearances.

This was better than shelling out my hard stolen...um, earned rubles for a movie! It had everything...thrills, chills and spills(getting all those guys to "chip"[pun intended] in took some effort, I'm sure)! And it has methods to save when actually trying own stuff. Very cool and interesting video. Thanks for sharing!

Have you ever used a Knipex pliers wrench? I feel like they fit they fit the same niche as the parallel pliers and might be a little more heavy duty. Congrats on the 500k! Love the channel!

Heck yeah, feather blades. I shave my whole head, not just my face, and feather and personna platinum are my favorite.

I have a straight razor that I snap the feathers in half and put them in. Saves me the time of sharpening. Not hard but I only use it for trimming the cheeks or when my wife shaves the head. Feather blades are awesome sauce.
