Wow Its a bit of a wild time. This week I have been rather ill in bed, but thankfully Im feeling better today. Honestly there is so much to do, not sure I would choose to go overseas at this time of year again. Have you travelled over Xmas? How was it? Bag featured: howirollsports.com/shop/newton-wheelchair-backpack/ (not sponsored, and I have not used this company) Have a wonderful xmas my friends and thank you for your support throughout the year. hey gem! i hope you've been well :) one odd question- do you have experience with young kids being afraid of you, seeing you in a wheelchair? it's something i struggle with. most of the time kids are just curious, but few young toddlers have been absolutely terrified of me

Hi, Gem: I was just wondering if you could put up a link to the website for the loop earbuds. I have a sensitivity to loud noise, and I think that those would help me a lot. I also need a pair of noise-canceling earbuds, and these would be a game changer for me. I am flying to the UK in March to see a friend of mine that I have not seen in about 12 or 13 years. I watch your channel almost every day, and your travel vlogs where you are flying by yourself have really inspired me to fly solo on this trip. Thanks.

1:02 Even though we're slowly approaching summer here in Australia, Daisy's hot chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream, looks and sounds seriously _YUMMMM!_ 2:04 Watching you use the Nespresso machine, made me stop and think how much easier such a device it is, to make it possible for the disabled to have great coffees, without needing to try to use a coffee press. 3:39 Huntsman spiders are big, scary looking, and basically harmless to people. If you asked an Australian what spider they really don't want to run into, odds on most would say a redback spider. 5:08 Being carded by the Post Office. Here in Australia, if you are carded like that, you'd have to wait till the next working day at the earliest, to be allowed to collect your parcel from the local post office. Serious luck catching the postman with your parcel. Here in Australia, even if you did manage to catch the parcel delivery person, you would not have got your parcel. Post office parcel delivery workers rarely have people's parcels with them, usually all they have is cards directing people to collect their parcels at the post office, on the next working day. 5:49 The Lists. Suggestion: use large fonts so you don't need to get up close to the pages to read them. Use a highlighter pen to mark off things as they are done. I used both extensively and successfully, to track packing and other necessary tasks and scheduling, in the lead up to my moving house in May 2022. 6:19 Late shopping for gifts... eeeeep! 6:26 Low count of available spoons for the day 7:35 the Loop earplugs. The tips on them look very much like the basic tips of IEM noise isolating earphones One useful tip for any traveller, disabled or otherwise. Weigh everything you are going to have in your carry-on bag, and the bag itself, and know the carry-on limits for the airlines you'll be travelling on and the seat class you'll be travelling in.

One thing about medicines though… Be it prescription or OTC… It should always be in original packaging, and if prescription, with the pharmacy label on so you can prove that the medicine is yours and not something from off the street. Certain medicines will also require documentation from your doctor and/or pharmacy, in certain situations you might even need special permission from the country you’re going to (if it’s something very very strong and/or controversial you’re on) So as tempting as it can be to just squish in medicines in a small bag, just don’t… It can cause more trouble than it’s worth IF customs or security looks at it. I travel with very strong medicines and have to have documentation from the pharmacy for 3 of them as they’re narcotic or heavily regulated. I always keep my medicines in original packaging with label and have my documentation for it, all of it in a 3L ziplock bag in my carry on, no one has ever looked at it, but IT IS THERE just in case! No one can question the legality of my medicines because the label is there, I can prove that it is mine! That said, I’ve only been traveling within the EU since starting on my medicines, so all I’ve needed is the Schengen document from the pharmacy. I know it would get more complicated with notes from doctor etc if I was to take my medicines to for example Thailand or something. Hope your flight went smoothly and enjoy Australia! Also, my best life hack for flights (especially long haul), tomato juice with ice! Just make sure it’s the pure tomato juice and not the one with the seasoning in it (the latter is nasty)! Tomato juice anytime the flight attendants do their drink rounds and have tomato juice available, water as well every couple of drink rounds but try to limit the water intake, and definitely limit orange juice, soda, coffee and tea for mealtimes only. Tomato juice will keep you comfortably hydrated without just going straight through the system like water does, plus it has all the good stuff from tomatoes in it as well so it’s more than just hydration. Tomato juice is how I’ve managed 10-12 hour flights over to USA or Asia in the past, and only needing to use the restroom 2-3 times during that time (out of which once or twice I’ve only gone to get up and move a little). If I had been drinking water instead of tomato juice, I would have had to get up to use the restroom at least a couple of times more because of how it just goes through me. I try to avoid having to use the inflight restroom even though I’m ambulatory (and back in the days of my long haul flights I was walking full time) because it’s just a small space and it’s easier to use a real toilet at the airport before and after the flight

Oh Gem! Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I’ve never known an Australian Christmas anywhere near as wet and cold as this one. Usually you can get away with just something light for evenings but I’ve even had the heater on. Unheard of for December! So make sure you’ve got a decent cardigan or jacket. The weather has been a very mixed bag of cold and warm days so pack for all occasions. Wishing you an uneventful, uncomplicated flight!
