♿️MY NON-DISABLED HUSBAND TRYS SHOPPING IN MY OLD WHEELCHAIR CHALLENGE!!! THIS WAS HILARIOUS TO FILM, AND HILARIOUS TO EDIT. YOU CAN EXPECT TO SEE HIM STRUGGLE, TRANSFERRING THE WHEELCHAIR IN AND OUT OF THE CAR, TRYING TO OPEN DOORS FROM THE WHEELCHAIR. GOING TO THE TOILET AND MUCH MUCH MORE.
BY MAKING THIS VIDEO I WANT TO RAIS AWARENESS OF HOW DIFFICULT LIFE IS IN A WHEELCHAIR. AND HOW THE EVERY DAY TASKS TAKE SO MUCH MORE EFFORT, TIME AND ENERGY.
After suffering my spinal cord injury i have really had to adapt in life. So Im showing you my disability lifestyle to raise disability awareness. As a disabled woman and a woman in a wheelchair who is paralysed, I thought it would be interesting for you to see, and hopefully give you some inspiration and motivation so that you can live more independently. wether you are paraplegic or quadriplegic I hope that I can help you. The wheelsnoheels message is “so no one has to feel alone.”
I have lots of interesting disability videos, a lot of videos on how to cope with a disability and living life in a wheelchair, wether you are a girl boy woman or man. i have some paraplegic exercise videos, and advice. its important to keep your fitness levels up as much as possible as this can when physically and mentally with depression.
If you feel I have given you value today consider buying me a ko-fi, just think of it as a tip.

Check out our newst challenge video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o7_8b4bhHeE.html ♿️Please consider sharing this video. My hope is to raise awareness of how difficult the everyday tasks can be for wheelchair users. Thank you Shaun for taking part in this video. Shaun is lucky he is very fit and strong. I really liked how you came back to all the little clips where he was making fun of the things you have to do to get things done bc it really put into perspective how different the mindset is when you are able bodied and don't have to think about how you're going to carry a big thing of milk vs a smaller one or hold onto a basket/bag when you're travelling. The moments when he realized that 'oh yeah maybe those little things you have to do and be cognizant of are actually important and useful' were my personal favorite part of this video.

Thank you Monica. I really REALLY loved putting them in. I laughed so much editing this. I think its wasy for someone to sit back and watch you and say "why dont you do it this way? Why are you doing it like that. pfft look at what youve done now." But once you try it, you realise how difficult it is.

@@nellamc5833 that's one Huffington post article by one person. This video was for fun and awareness. It can be beneficial. Especially for people involved with say architecture. Making them more aware of "a few steps isn't accesible" and "a steep ramp is hard and not really a ramp" etc. And even if people give up halfway that's cause they realise accessibility is shit. People will treat them differently especially wheelchair bound, just like they would an actually disabled person. Because they don't see the person Isn't. It may evoke a little pity in some over ignorance which a bit better, because possibly leads to accessibility. Her main criticism is that people will still not know what exactly she goes through. However this is impossible given that everyone is different and no two people experience the world exactly the same. You also can't make someone paraplegic for a thing to create understanding, since that would just be outright cruel

Katie Smith my boyfriend uses a chair and leg braces, he put the chair in the boot then ‘walks’ around. More if someone saw Shaun get out, get a chair (normal to do) then sit back in for the filming section as if he hadn’t gotten out and get/assemble the other chair (also normal for people to do) but that little segment between. I can just imagine people doing a double take or being confused watching the behind the scenes then what was being filmed.

I'm not a wheelchair user, but I am disabled and use a service dog. I love how this video demonstrated how all this extra little things that go into an outing are the really draining parts. Without a wheelchair (or dog), you can simply pop in the car and go somewhere but we have extra steps and complications. That's what I thought about when Sean talked about it taking 30 mins and you haven't even started the actual shopping yet: that's exhausting! With a dog, I have to make sure she has a chance to go out before we enter a store,. If we're out for long periods of time, I have make sure she is hydrated, that she isn't on a cold, hard floor ect. Since we are still in training, it also means we have training challenges... sometimes I have to leave if she is getting to antsy or having an off day. All these challenges are EASIER than dealing with my symptoms without my dog. That's how hard this shit is.

Great video it highlights only a small portion of how life is in a chair. After the elation of finally being moblie in a chair, I think the honeymoon period wears off after about 2-3 weeks and then the rudeness and inconsideration start to arrive in consecutive spurts that can really make the already limiting and dauting limitations a chair provide a real nightmare. Its really even worse for those in an electric chair than a manual chair. Electric chairs are even bulkier and have no where near the manuverability that manual chairs provide. Popping wheelies and climbing curbs or doorstops are completely impossible. This video at least highlights "some" of the difficulties and a little bit of insite into why disabled people are always exhausted. Couple this exaustion with pain and you get an idea of what hell some people have to go through for even mundane tasks.

That was an awesome video to do!! People really don’t understand how exhausting it is just getting in and out of a vehicle!! By the time you get into a store your already in pain and wiped out! Thankfully in the USA we have pick up services and grocery delivery services that are free. I use Walmart’s grocery app and then drive to the store and they bring it all out and load it in my vehicle. Its so hard to maneuver my power chair with one hand and then try to push a cart with the other. When I use to have to shop that way I would have to make sure I had NO PLANS for 2 to 3 days after due to pain. Being in a manual chair there’s no way you could even push a cart, you have to use a handheld basket. My friends talk about going to the cleaners, then one grocery store and then another and going to the post office and and and and ... I’m like that would be so nice to just get all that done in a morning but I have to pick and choose what has to be done. One or two places and I’m worn out!! I’m for sure sharing this video!!

This is a fantastic video, it shows that even people who are very close to you do not really understand just how difficult it actually is doing even simple (let alone difficult) things while in a wheelchair, I'm slightly worst off than some others as I can't get out of the chair (I even sleep in it). Keep making these great videos Gem.

Piece of advice for bathrooms: avoid the hand blower like the plague. They have been proven to spread germs really badly. It is more hygienic to use the paper napkins.

I came across your videos after RU-vid recommended them; and I am SO glad I did. They are all very informative. As someone who is waiting for my first electric wheelchair aged 43, your videos have helped me with so much!!!! Especially the disabled trolleys. I’ve never used one even when I’ve been pushed in a manual as I’m scared of looking a fool not knowing how they fit to a chair. Never realised they’re so easy. Love your channel and have subscribed and liked

What a great video! Sean was a real hero for show how hard it could be! I don't think most people understand how much it changes your life when you need it a wheelchair. Only the part that you all of a sudden becomes a different person in the society, from just a regular one to a handicapped. I noticed that people all of a sudden started to say hello to me, even if I didn't know them. My children always joke about that..

I know you made this a couple of years ago but I only just found it. I wish you would make a whole series like this however make Sean film himself. Do not go with him. I repeat do not go with him. Let him navigate the world on his own. Have him do a grocery store challenge ones and then maybe the following week to see how he does things differently once he’s learned something and then you could have a parallel the video showing how you do it because you’ve had several years to figure some stuff out. I actually think it’s very very educational for folks to see how it enabled by the person attempts to navigate the world and the challenges which confront the disabled person. I am disabled. Multiple Sclerosis. Mainly in a wheelchair was very limited ability to stand and take a couple of steps. Terrible balance. Living in Chicago. I really enjoy your videos

This was a brilliant idea for a vlog Gem. I laughed so much at Shaun nearly dropping the shopping when you got home after he'd laughed at you holding it in your mouth. It worked well adding in all the clips from the previous video as it really highlighted the struggles people have no idea about! You should totally make this into a series! (Sorry Shaun ;) )

Impressed by your first shop in a wheelchair. I drive but cannot cope at the petrol station my husband has to fill my car. As well as having mobility issues I have strength issues it would take ages for me to do this as I cannot lift my own chair and my car is not fitted to remain in my chair. I do wish petrol stations still had assistants as a matter of course! It may be a good challenge for him.

I loved this vlog, it is me and my husbands everyday. I was his carer and worked full time as well. The stress and strain eventually has aggravated my arthritis to a point were anytime out of the house I need a chair. As a carer I thought I knew the drill but it’s not until you have to use one that you realise the ongoing problems. If wrists have arthritis as well the you can only push for short journeys, if any at all. My daughter pushed me round a supermarket once, I was dizzy by the end of it because of her speed and looking up all the time at things. I know I did this to my husband for 20 years bless him.

I just found your channel and I LOVE this video!! I think everyone that designs public spaces should have an idea of what it's like to navigate those spaces from an accessibility standpoint. I'm a programmer and attended a conference where a speaker invited us to use our phones as though we were visually impaired and let me tell you how much of an ohhhhh moment it was. I am now fully aware that something insignificant to me may make a feature unusable for someone else. Thank you both for your candor and enthusiasm, and although I've never been in a wheelchair I feel like I have a greater understanding of some of the challenges you face and opportunities where I can work on some of my unconscious reactions.

Shaun is a good sport! Great fun. I went away on my own for a weekend once using a wheelchair. It was quite enlightening. One thing I learned was when going into a lift reverse in. That way you can see what you are a coming out to. Another realisation was how tiring it is for the arms. They ached with the pain when I went to bed! One bit that was fun was the ramp down to the garage. It was so steep the wheels didn't have enough grip to hold me back. I just had to let it roll, slow it a bit and steer it. (There was a lift to reception, but I arrived fom the street). Well done Shaun and Gem!
