This was so fun! You did a great job mixing the dramatic elements with minis and the actual gameplay! It also felt very satisfying seeing the culmination of your hard work getting ready for the game 😊
@@tabletopalchemy Definitely need other battle report like this. The narration make all the difference. I'm invested now to what happen to the Chasseur de Cauchemars.
THIS. WAS. FANTASTIC. The best battle report I’ve seen! Loved how narrative it was. The opening with the script setting the scene was a favorite touch of mine. I know it probably takes a lot of work to get a video like this done and thanks for this. But please make another one I’m really invested now. Like will Felice twitch now be too much of a hindrance for future missions!? Will Ottilie give Claude high praise for his marksmanship!? I do have one question, how did you enjoy the solo play of a tabletop game. I’ve been thinking about it more of doing myself & just wanted to get your thoughts.
I actually really enjoyed the solo gameplay! To be honest, it's pretty difficult for me to find anyone in my area that wants to play something that isn't Warhammer or Warhammer 40k (not that I dislike those games, it just seems to be the only thing being played). And also ... lol, I don't really know that many gamers either, at least that are nearby. But I think the simple monster AI as written in the books works well and all in all, I had a great time both playing the scenario and making the video. Lots of work as you mentioned to make the video, but I'll be doing more battle reports in the future, guaranteed.
Can you win some award for battle reports? If so you'll be up on the stage thanking all the fans and your cat. Saying things like " you couldn't have won without their support." Well done. You now need to make this a recurring aspect of your channel.
I'll be honest, I really enjoyed this entire series. Seeing the process of engaging with the rules, getting and painting the minis, making the terrain and then finally playing the scenario has been fascinating and mirrors my own journey of getting into Turnip28. I actually really liked this narrative style of battle report and would happily watch more!
Very cool, glad you enjoyed it! I’ve been thinking about Turnip28, I’m only peripherally aware of it but I feel like I should check it out soon in detail. 🍻
@@tabletopalchemy Turnip28 as a game has a delightfully core rule set that has layers of very interesting flavour through exploring cults and special units. But what sets it apart for me is the aesthetic and its miniature agnostic nature, which opens up a lot of opportunities for kitbashing and a lot more freedom than I feel with my Warhammer army. As a result my enjoyment of the game is both from gameplay and the ever growing art project that my units have become.
Really loved this. Egaging naration and a great intro to the game mechanics. I also realy appreciate that you left in your trials and errors giving it a true "first playthrough" experience. No better way to learn a game. Cheers!
Perfect bat-rep, because you told the story as well as played out and adjusted to the probabilities of RNG's, even when they were not in your favor. Bat-reps can often become boring because they only speak to the numbers involved, rather than scenario or story involved, and you avoided that trap.
Yeah, I don’t really watch battle reports, that said, Play On Tabletop’s sports center style editing for Warhammer 40k works pretty well lol. But narrative is what beckons me lol 🍻
That was a lot of fun to watch! Your narration was so cinematic, and the POV camera angles we're great! Not even a miniatures gamer (tried X-Wing but am terrible at it) but I'd happily watch more of these!
Enjoyed this battle report immensely. Your narration brought the game alive. I would recommend some kind of punishment for those terrible dice. They need to be taught a lesson.
Yeah, the single die roll to calculate an entire combat definitely streamlines the game. All of Joe’s games seem to operate that way, the others use d20 is only difference.
I usually don't watch battle reports but yours had the perfect casual pace, plus it has a focus on the narrative, which I am all about as a RPG gamer. I really enjoyed it, especially after a re-watch of the Napoleon movie trailer. Keep up the good work mon ami!
That was a phenomenal piece of story telling and world building. As far as I'm concerned please keep 'em coming. And I hope you give Jolanda a cool scar. A reminder to always check her back
Enjoy your beer, you earned it! Your narration was very entertaining. It felt like listening to an audio book rather than watching a game. Most battle reports focus on the game play mechanics and tactics, and provide a bare bones narrative if they have any narrative at all. Hope to see more battle reports on your channel.
Loved it. I usually find most battle reports tedious. You made this very fun to watch. Highly enjoyable. As a side note, I bet you could drill out the barrels a little to insert tiny magnets, and glue the cotton to tiny magnets to attach to the guns. I could see a world where moving the cotton along with the mini could get tricky.
Awesome, really happy to hear you enjoyed it. I’ll definitely be doing more, they just take a little time to make so won’t be every month lol. But folks seem to dig it so I might start thinking about a mini series or something of that nature. We shall see! 🍻
This is a great format: the narration over the play thru makes for almost like a DND session with the detailed character descriptions.May this not be the last one my good human.
Battle reports are a dime a dozen (and I watch them obsessively) but your narration with this one made it special. I was all in and rooting for every toy soldier on the board. Nice work!
I really love this. The only thing I’d like to see is a bit more footage of of the miniatures close up. They’re painted so well and it’s so immersive. A balance of the narration and the overhead and the dice box there are a lot of factors to balance and I think you did an amazing job. The minis really bring me into it though, so personally a touch more from that miniature pov. What a great video though. Hats off mate.
Awesome! And I agree with you - this being my first attempt I wasn’t really sure how the footage was going to balance out. But now I’ve got some “xp” so to speak I’ll have a better idea for how to get shots next time. Well, one can hope anyway lol. (One issue I have is working alone, so I can’t operate camera and move minis at the same time, which makes the macro shots kinda static - I need a robot ai assistant 😂)
Man, this is some of the best game narration I’ve ever heard. Really appreciate what you’re doing. Was so enamored by your game that I bought the book. Thanks
This is my first time here and I got to say that was a FANTASTIC battle report! Love the storytelling. I have yet to check but I'm crossing my fingers there are a hundred more on your channel that I can binge.
Well thanks, I’m super glad you enjoyed it! But I have to bum you out and let you know that while I’ve got 3 reports in the series plus a few extras (which should all be in a playlist), you’ll find out in the more recent videos why I haven’t been able to produce more (yet). There’s a big project happening that hopefully you’ll kick out of but isn’t in the battle report arena. Maybe you could call it kind of related lol 🤙🏴☠️⚔️🍻
That was a blast. Very similar to my favorite tabletop game, the Battle Companies expansion for GW’s Middle-Earth game. Your narration mixed the best parts of tabletop gaming and RPGs. Keep it up!
I enjoyed this so much I had to watch it again, and roped my Potter-head wife into watching as well and she too really enjoyed it. Yes, again, to more videos like this one. Excited to see more adventures from the hunters.
i really enjoyed your battle report- it was really fun! i also really like the single roll for both the 'to hit' and the 'damage' result mechanic that the silver bayonet uses. it's such an elegant way to streamline the game.
This video was incredible! The narration was spot on and truly had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Never before has a battle report so fully captured and held my attention, nor have I felt such a strong investment in the characters on the table. Your video is the standard I will now test all other narrative battle reports against. Thanks so much for creating this! I hope to see more like it in the future.
Well thank you very much! Really glad you enjoyed it! I’m pretty amped to see what the warband does in the next scenario (but it’ll take some time to get that ready, just wanna manage expectations lol). 🍻
@@tabletopalchemy What I liked about the aftermath was your relaxed "I play for myself, I change what I think is okay"-attitude. Suits a game like this very well.
How fun.... I'm looking to share this whole series with my partner. Also, you have provided even more inspiration I need to begin gamifying my 4'x5' diorama in HO scale. I'm already imagining the epic encounters my merry band of Privateers will have chiseling out their living and standing their ground against the onslaught of eastern Industrialists with their railroaded in capital & labor.
Holy cow- those D10s really were the best friend and worst enemy in equal measure in your battle report! Confession time- I actually groaned when I saw it pop up because I usually don't watch batreps cos they're often... a little dry, boring even? But man! Opening with you reading out from actual (awesome) screenplay was so great, dramatic and hooked me immediately!! My heart was in my mouth several times for your brave soldiers of France 🇫🇷 Your dramatic camera work and fantastic story telling of each clash, each shot, each slip in the muck, every raking claw was amazing! I would love to see more because then I might actually finish up my Silver Bayonet warband & play that scenario too. Awesome job, sir!
Thank you very much, so glad you enjoyed it! I have the same reaction to most battle reports lol so I was like, well, let’s just give it a shot. I def had fun and look forward to doing more! And you should look forward to playing Silver Bayonet too 😃🏴☠️
Having watched more than a few Warhammer Bat Reps, I can say this one was way more fun and easier to follow. Well done. I look forward to you doing more in the future...if you feel like it that is.
Great series end to end, and this battle report was the perfect capstone! I hope you do more projects in this style, or at the very least another battle report like this one!
Well, thanks! I am definitely going to do more like this, both mini-series for different games that require warbands and battle reports. Glad you enjoyed it! 🍻
This was awesome! I have no idea how other battle reports go, but I look forward to watching this series and any others you cook up! I've always avoided wargaming because the expense & work involved in the minis seemed too daunting ... but your videos are making me seriously consider taking the plunge. So, thanks for ruining my life! :P
Well, one, glad you enjoyed it, and two, a lot of skirmish games have solo rules. But as far as getting friends into it, maybe you just set up a game and invite one or two friends over for a demo.
If you can find them, the ORIGINAL rules for Mordheim set up a warband/narrative system as well, and your fantasy players may be more open to that environment. Another really, really cool one is Malifaux if they like a more steampunky, but still warband focussed idea. There is also "Through the breach" which is thier RPG game. Even games like Warhammer quest can be played in this style if that's what floats your boat, even solo as well. It actually AMAZES me that people who play RPG's via VTT's or who need boards or battlemaps would even hesitate to play skirmish games TBH.
Okay, man, that was fantastic. Your narration was so engaging and fun, even with the rules explanation and stuff! 100% would love to see more like this.
Nicely done. The point is to have fun. Sounds like you had a great time playing. Once again, you have provided inspiration. My figures and terrain are progressing, I too, will soon be playing my first game. My first one will be Space Station Zero, followed by a scenario with Stargrave
@@tabletopalchemy I won't be doing a video of my game, as I am not equipped to do so, and my free time is limited. I may, and hope to do is take some notes and some photos, and at least have a decent game narrative and a post game report
@@tabletopalchemy Just ordered The Silver Bayonet rulebook and a box of Napoleon's Wars: British Riflemen (Wargames Atlantic). Being a massive fan of Sean Bean's "Sharpe's Rifles" tv series these minis will allow for me to create a detachment of the 95th Rifle Regiment! I will have to go looking for a medic and occultist however "In DuckDuckGo I trust"! Just wanted to take a moment to drill down on your videos. They are incredibly engaging, cleverly thought out and neck n neck with AFK for the top spot out of the 803 channels that I follow! Thank you for all of the work that you put into these and I hope the Hollywood Writer's and SAG strike are resolved quickly!
Well, this is awesome! Thank you for the kind words as well, much appreciated. I think you're gonna have fun building the 95th and playing some Silver Bayonet. Good luck finding those perfect doctor and occultist minis, lots of cool stuff out there!
This is true lol, but makes for great story! To be honest, I think the only reason the warband was able to escape is because “monsters” in solo scenarios do not have the option to “sprint”, so u always have a chance of outrunning them.
@@Frederic_S yeah, I like all of Joe's games, they are fundamentally similar in mechanics and I think they're great. Just the swingy-ness isn't really suited to "highly competitive play" I guess lol.
That was great man, by doing your narration after the fact it was tighter than what I usually see on battler reports, if you do one with another player in the future it will be a good chance to riff and edit a good report. Keep up the great work! \
