Interesting comparison. I don't understand why Casio hasn't updated the module with decent lighting yet. It's shameful that clones at half the price are readable in the dark.

Indeed! It’s about time they did something about it. In fact, we know they are making changes - apparently the more recent F-91Ws no longer have the little “U” symbol on the lens. Why not update the backlight, too? That light diffuser mod I bought off Etsy, even if it works, cost like the same price as a whole F-91W 😂 Thanks for weighing in, Fratellini! 🙏

That’s a fair take, @@unzulaessig ! 👌 While I always like to see improvements, you can see that the F-91 is already offering such incredible value. Changing the backlight now might compromise the low price for bulk manufacturing.

I, for one, like the warm glow of the old school backlight. It reminds me of when I was a kid, and tiny incandescent bulbs were futuristic. Plus if your eyes are adjusted, you can see the time just fine

I have a SKMEI clone of A158A. It works perfectly and the backlight is great. I took it for a swim and held up pretty well. I have a feeling they have good quality control and takes pride of their homage watches. More power to you.

In my country (third world country), F91w is not cheap, with the current price, I can buy a slightly used Gshock square with it. Hence why I find skmei better. I have one, it feels like a F91w, it has a better back light and is 4x cheaper than the F91w. Most reasonable beater watch that won't break your heart when you beat it, f91ws here as seen as fashion pieces.

Brand aside the Skmei is a far superior watch to the Casio F91W. I've had my Skmei 2 years it goes in the shower, it's on the same battery and the back-light so much better. Think I paid £7.00

With the same battery do you think the skmei Will hold for 7 years? O think that IS the advantage of Casio. The way they make the watch for low consume.

The module from the A-700 will fit right in the F-91 case with no problem. Use the spring from a thin spring bar to make contact with the speaker on the inside of the F-91 careback, and it's all good.

@@goatreviews I see, my casio f91w's case is broken, i have seen some transparent case skmei ones on aliexpress, so I am willing to make a transparent case f91w with genuine faceplate. But trimming will make it difficult since the case is transparent one. Btw thanks man.

The cheap F-91w clones are good for spare parts, some of these clones have got better back lights. Therefore you can just swap the modulate into a Casio case.

Great point, Fred! 🙏 I like this idea. I was going to keep the “dud” around for parts, but decided to donate it. (Which I even feel slightly disrespectful for doing, but it might be ‘better than nothing’ for someone!) It’s a shame it had an even WORSE backlight! That SKMEI though… 👀

For past 2 y got 3 Skms all working, not afraid of swimming or falling. 12usd for all on ali sales. Saved money goes to buy new Skmeis when needed what gives me new watch every time i want. It’s all relative. With Casio’s quality being so high, it’s hard for other brands to match. HOWEVER… Out of all the ‘knock off’ brands I’ve experienced (like in this video), SKMEI is the only one that actually does a great job - offering much better quality than the alternatives, and for a reasonable price 👌

Привет. На форуме читал, что можно проверить оригинальность F-91 следующим способом. Надо включить секундомер и посмотреть на мигание двух точек: две точки должны мигать вместе с секундами. У подделки F-91 две точки мигают без связи с секундами. Проверь.

@@goatreviews Недавно заказал F-91 в интернет-магазине. Пришли часы внешне, как оригинальные. Текстура задней крышки горизонтальная, винты, ремешок - все похожи на оригинал. Только две точки мигают не правильно. Отказался от покупки и заказал Skmei 8)

As always a nice review. Maybe if skemei stops copy casio models and starts design its own watches wil gain a little respect from me ( maybe) but untill then there are cheap casio copy on my opinion, by the way, did you hear about O.T.S watch brand? I appreciate the support, David! 👌 Man I think you’re on to something. Let’s ask ourselves though, do they have what it takes to innovate, and be creative? Or is their strength on iterating on existing designs for slight improvements, and reduced cost? If I’m being honest, I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for SKMEI’s very often, and there’s some truly AWFUL looking designs out there… I’m more than happy for them to keep copying Casio. 😅 I have never heard of OTS before!! @@goatreviews a good start for skemei could be improve the resin case , put mineral glass on their watches and make own designs. Invest a few dollars and become a decent brand. Casio got a really good quality watches for a low price must be an example and a role model to skemei, smael and sanda.

Some great points, @@davidjuros3024 👌 I’d love to see them go for it too - I imagine it’s something they’ve considered. It’s all about the balancing act with the price though - as soon as that starts to creep up, they’ll get MUCH less sales as people “may as well buy a Casio!” BTW, I got a 3 pack of screen protectors and chucked them on a few of my watches including the F91W and SKMEI 1412 - I feel so much more confident wearing them knowing they won’t be scratched 😁 (RU-vid short coming out soon showing them off 👌)

The real deal costs only 20 bucks while the fake skmei costs 10 bucks and the quality is very much better in the orignal. A stupid would buy a fake watch cuz they are almost the same price

I can understand a person who would buy a Omega Speedmaster or a Rolex Explorer II homage because he/she cannot afford to purchase the real thing. But honestly and rhetorically speaking, what is the point, besides the purpose of this video, of purchasing an imitation knockoff of perhaps the word's most famous and most inexpensive watch (F-91W)? What kind of person you have to be to do that?

G’day GVSolo! You raise a great point, and I understand where you’re coming from. Who is this watch really intended for? The reality is, there must be a target audience or they wouldn’t keep selling it. I’ve heard from multiple viewers that Casio watches are either too expensive in their country, or simply not available whatsoever. So that’s price and availability, but I’d also add “functionality”. That is, the objectively superior backlight might be enough to sway some otherwise-Casio buyers. Thanks for weighing in! 🙏
