Thank you for this amazingly detailed tutorial--you have obviously gone through many, many revisions! Although I do not have a LEGO city, many of the tips and tricks you demonstrated helped me think outside the box on seemingly unrelated LEGO projects I'm working on. For example, the sliding door idea would be great for a supermarket or shower.

Cool! Thanks! I really wanted to share this because I ran into the same issues that everyone else does when creating an elevator! After weeks of trying various methods for a smooth operation, was really glad I was able to achieve the goals. I hope this saves many people the time and effort in their own elevator designs

@@TealBricksinParadisa Well, congratulations to you! You clearly know more about elevators than the designers at Lego. (looking at you, modular town hall) 😅
@TealBricksinParadisa
@TealBricksinParadisa 3 года назад
@@witerabid Hahaha! ahhh..so thats where everybody got the slider style elevator from! I never noticed the Town Hall had an elevator. I've decided not to bother getting any modulars beyond the Palace Cinema. Another one that gets me is Ninjago City elevator. To be fair though, those poor designers have a lot of cost constraints they have to deal with. haha

Awesome video 👍! This was a really great tutorial 😀! This elevator runs so smoothly! I might have to modify mine because it's more complex and I want to make it a little more simpler like yours! I also really like that technique that you used to straiten out 1x1 bricks! Great job and keep it up 👍!

Tayshon! I'm reeeally glad you like the tutorial! Yes! The single stud straightening technique (SSST??) is super helpful for me! I use it all the time! No more wasting time fiddling to get them to be straight! I think the disadvantage to my elevator is the cost of the technic beams and 8 wheels. My ideas are your ideas dude!

Thanks! It'll be a while before I catch up to the new police station! I just got the corner garage and am going to make it tropical, expand it and convert the garage to a electric scooter and bicycle repair shop. Still need to get the bookstore..haha. If I remoc the police station I'd probably move the newspaper and donut shop onto a 16x32. the newspaper stand as-is, is too cramped.

Amazing design, thanks for the tutorial! It works so flawlessly, it's quite mesmerizing. I also love your side explanations, like how to align 1x1 bricks. So helpful! I was wondering something while watching: in your buildings, will there be any stairs? On one hand, no stairs means you save space, but on the other hand what happens when they run out of service?
@TealBricksinParadisa
@TealBricksinParadisa 3 года назад
Thanks Super Secret!! 😄 Yeah at first I wanted to include stairs in the hospital but decided to sacrifice it. It just wasnt worth it, as they take up too much space. The hospital is 48x48 and already jam packed with necessities. So I decided to make the rule that my skyscrappers would only have elevators and pretend that in the year 2060, they are absolutely robust, multiple safety reduncies and fire/fail proof 😂. perhaps an invisible safety feature is that each floor has hatch in the floor and when it is opened it deploys an inflatable slide ramp to the floor below just like on airplanes. This way minifigures can escape the building in case something devastating has damaged the elevator. My smaller buildings will have stairs (although my palace cinema has both stairs and an elevator) and I'm currently working on a MOC Grand Emporium which has a cargo lift in the basement, escalators on the first 4 floors and only stairs leading to the roof!

Great tutorial! How do the dimensions of this elevator compare to the one you had in your Cinema MOC?
@TealBricksinParadisa
@TealBricksinParadisa 3 года назад
Hey Sam! Thanks! 😊 The tutorial elevator is the same 6x8 dimensions (7x10 inner shaft) as I have in the Palace Cinema! The Palace Cinema differs from the tutorial by how tall the walls are ~10bricks tall which required the guide rails (technic beams) to be longer. The two hospital elevators are 8x12 (larger staff elevator) and 8x8 (public elevator)
@samross82
@samross82 3 года назад
@@TealBricksinParadisa thanks!. You've inspired me to try and add one to a MOC but I think I will have to forego the sliding doors as I don't think I will be able to fit one in that size. I'll have to try and figure something slightly smaller out. Great tutorial - you've definitely inspired me to give it a go
@TealBricksinParadisa
@TealBricksinParadisa 3 года назад
@@samross82 Most excellent! You have been inceptioned! 😆 I've actually been pondering a smaller elevator just today! A 6x6 siding door elevator (7x 8 inner shaft..2 studs less on the front width than my tutorial elevator) might be doable if A. you dont mind the elevator door clearance for a minifigure at 2 1/2 studs wide when the sliding door is open ....and B. converting the guide rails from technic beams to a 1x?12? plate with 1x? tiles on top...attached to bricks with knobs on the side (32592) built into the two side walls. This way the sliding door can use that extra space where the technic beam use to be. It would also mean the elevator would be able to wiggle side to side more, due to the plate+tile style guide rail...this may or may not be an issue.

I'm really glad your son and you like the elevator!! 😊 Parts and instructions will always be different depending on how you create your lego building which will be unique you. The floors and walls of your building will be unique. Therefore making instructions and parts list was not practical because it will always be different for every person. I might be able to help out if you have more specific questions regarding the elevator build and particular pieces though! Feel free to ask! 😄

Would the new 3x6 door panels work for this design too?
@TealBricksinParadisa
@TealBricksinParadisa 2 года назад
Unfortunately not. Unlike simple window panes, the 4x6 and 3x6 doors have a thickened portion at the top and bottom pivot point of the door. This prevents it from fitting into the 1/2 plate groove of the rail. Additionally the 3x6 doors have a thickened ridge at the top and bottom edges of the doors. It would be kinda cool if they could fit though.
