I am using this for last one month and i am simply loving it, the feel and firm factor is very premium and performance got routine tasks is not at all an issue... Pen, keyboard, screen, sound are the best for the price...
Good thing you mention about the performance mode while on battery, or else it would be unbearably slow. Is there dynamic mode, where you can balance power and performance?
Nice, thx for the review, looks like the top spec version is 750usd. Guess I'll stick with the i3 based Surface Go 3 and get a separate BT keyboard and a AAAA battery based pen. Planning on using it to compliment my gaming laptop to do minor art edits, GameCube emulation, retro PC gaming. Asus should've gave you the price list for the different models.
I agree through and through. Having the lack of information doesn't give me much room to judge this product based on its price (which is what most people want to know). Still, the Surface Go 3 has a better chip but no OLED. Truly depends on what you value most on a device.
@@NasiLemakTech I would like to have OLED, but I tend to hang on to technology a little bit longer so I prefer LCD because it doesn't degrade much or have burn-in.
Thank you for a balanced and honest review. The big issue here is lack apps in the Microsoft Store do it's really best to go for that Asus Chromebook range or alternatively the iPad.
Have you tried linux on this? I feel like that would be the best usecase for it. I am trying out the surface go 3 right now with the pentium gold 6500y and for me the performance is ok, its not really that great but for what it is its perfect, I am using this as a secondary device for browsing, media consumption, communication and such, along side my main highend gaming laptop. interestingly overall the pentium gold on paper isnt that great compared to the N6000, the 6500y only has 2c/4t and is based on the old 14nm process, also my unit has 4gb of lpddr3 ram, so is overall worse than the Slate atleast on paper, so im wondering why most reviews are complaining about the performance of the slate.
i think this has potential especially for online classes for kids. for me, i dont know if i can live with such low specs. at 700usdafter taxes, it is cheap enough to be replaceable after every 3 years or so.
Hi, just want to say how useful I have found your review and also looking into this I have seen a few other things on your channel which is ace !! .. So thank you ! Just wondering though.. In your opinion how would the tablet fair if you wanted to put windows 10 for example on the unit ?
Thanks a bunch and thanks for watching! Formatting to Windows 10 does feel more refined, probably due to Windows 10 being more matured. However, installation of drivers are a little quirky since we need to install some Intel drivers to make sure the CPU can boost beyond 400MHz.
I've seen the first stores and the prices for this tablet, and I think you should be honest and tell your viewers that the $600 prices you mention is NOT for the 8GB/256GB version, but for the base model with 4GB and 128GB EMMC storage. Which is going to suck. Caveat emptor.
Good point. I do not have the information about the prices or configuration available and I should have mentioned it "starts from $600". Lemme update the description.
Por favor, podríais ayudarme? Me ha dejado de funcionar el ratón del propio teclado. No sé qué hacer. He reiniciado varias veces, he actualizado el controlador del dispositivo y nada. Solo llevo un par de semanas con esta laptop.
Love the screen and form factor, the hardware (Intel Pentium CPU), plus Windows is what makes it a sluggish device. If I were to buy it I would probably wipe Windows and install Linux on it!
@@theworkoutgeek Too many! I tried Elementary, Feren, Mint, Garuda Dragonized, and a whole lot more that I can't remember. The issue I have is Google Chrome not having hardware decoding option and RU-vid lags beyond belief. I tried forcing on Chrome flags but to no avail.
@@NasiLemakTech Thanks for the reply. I have an Asus VivoBook Flip 14 with an Intel Core i3 and I have MX Linux running on it via USB 3.0 drive and I wiped Windows 10 and installed Makulu Linux on it and it's running great. I can even use the desktop effects like wobbly windows and other compiz like effects and it runs flawlessly. And yes I have Google Chrome working on the laptop with multiple windows and still runs fast. I guess the Intel Pentium chipset inside the VivoBook 13 Slate OLED is not so good.
@@theworkoutgeek Thanks for sharing the information too! I think either this chip is just not good or still needs optimization. Either way, it's placed in the storage for now until Linux or Chrome OS has better support for it. Using Windows on this device is torture.
Definitely not. Particularly for drawing, it depends on what software you use. If you draw complex stuff using Photoshop, then I think even 8GB is not enough.
Exactly lol. And yet the one we have here is the top-of-the-line spec. I honestly mind more about the processor than the amount of RAM. I expected Core i3 to be the bare minimum for a Windows machine.
I am thinking of getting this for reading ebooks and pdfs since larger ebooks around the 10-13 inch size are about $500-$800 anyways. Can you advise how the OLED compares to ebook for reading? Thank you.
That is a very good question. I'll suggest you use an OLED phone to try and read books with it and see how comfortable it is for your eyes. OLED is like mini-lasers shining into our eyes so you might realize a bit of stinging in your eyes - especially reading in the dark.
@@NasiLemakTech Thank you for your recommendation. Reading on my old Kindle is still more comfortable except for the annoying flicker. I will reconsider this purchase, thanks!
@@Suijen86 if you're sensitive to monitor flickering, then I got some news for you. This Vivobook 13 Slate does have DC dimming but only at above 55% brightness. Anything lower is using PWM dimming.
The blue light filter? For me personally, doesn't make a difference. In fact I find OLED to be more tiring when used in lowlight conditions compared to IPS LCD despite looking nice.
@@NasiLemakTech Nvm bro.. this model is not a big deal for us Malaysian even the design, affordable price, display is A+. Most of us want something cheap but can do "everything". This 1 got no fan, and can be auto off or black screen if overheat. Now I'm interested on HP Envy x360 13. Asus ROG Flow X13 is not very "rahmah" for it's price.
@@NasiLemakTech I remember you mentioning in a comment that you tried several distros haha. Probably the popular ones like Ubuntu, Mint, Arch? Honestly whichever you think that has the best compatibility would be great
Hello, I am looking for a tablet that when having several applications open, apart from google, open opera, teams or zoom and excel, word, pdf, whatsapp web, and instagram open does not slow down? I require it for my trips and to receive separate classes, I also require it for work and content creation. Can you tell me with everything I just said, what is the best option? Thanks in advance
I've been looking for a tablet for web 3 apps, Where I can connect to metamask but ipad or any Android tablets don't even support web extensions. And the only options left over are ChromeOS or Windows. Sadly there isn't any good midrange tablets or 2 in 1's.
Hi I'm thinking of buying this pc.. I'm a computer science student I wouldn't use it as my main pc (I use a mac pro 16 for programming and at home I use windows for gaming) I would mainly use it to watch videos on youtube and in the professional field to answer email writing and reading word files, powerpoint etc. The truth is that I had taken a z fold 4 which disappointed me and so I prefer to take a tablet and a smartphone separately and I was thinking rather than taking an android tablet to take windows which will it certainly allows you to do more things.. I would use it 90% as a tablet and 10% with the keyboard as a PC.. but above all I see in the comments that you say that this PC is really very slow.. is it really as slow as you say? should I get an android tablet and settle for the android versions of office? I had also thought about buying a surface pro 8 (the price is not a problem) but the fact that I would use it most of the time to watch videos and the 3:2 aspect ratio of the surface is not very suitable for watching content made me did pull back from the purchase, what do you recommend? Thank you
Now this is an interestingly tough question. I can understand why you don't want to use the Z Fold 4 for that purpose - and I don't use that phone the same way I use an Android tablet, honestly. If Android tablet is in your mind already, then I'll have to highlight this to you - the Office suite of apps don't work the same way on Windows when compared to PCs or Macs. But, you'll get great battery life from a tablet compared to a laptop. Ultimately depends on what compromises you want to make, I think. I personally think that I'll go for a laptop. And yes, this ASUS Vivobook 13 Slate OLED is really slow. Not sure how's the compatibility for ChromeOS now but it was rather buggy when I used it a while back.
@@NasiLemakTech i this case which kind of laptop? I need something to use like tablet for massive content view (and this exclude surface pro for his aspect ratio of 3:2).. and with detachable keyboard I found only surface pro and this Asus. Thanks
@@Frazzy97 what about those flip laptops? We reviewed the ASUS ZenBook Flip earlier this year and that's a great laptop with an OLED screen too. I'm not keen towards getting those detachable keyboard laptops since they introduce quite a lot of problems. A flip laptop is the best of both worlds
@@NasiLemakTech Thank you very much for the advice.. with flips you grow further in weight and size and using it for most of the time as a tablet in my opinion it wouldn't be worth always carrying that extra weight for those few times that I would use the keyboard. looking at tablets for my needs between an android tablet (eg samsung s7 plus or similar) and a tablet with chrome os which one do you recommend? thanks
@francescoaurilio9154 kind of depends on what you want to use. I think they're very similar so maybe an Android tablet with a beautiful OLED screen is perfect for your case here.
Hello, I've been thinking of getting a laptop, but it must have these conditions... Must be 13 or 13.3 inch display Must have an Oled display (Since I'm a content creator) Must have a detachable keyboard or at least be a 2 in 1 laptop. And maybe have a fingerprint scanner (but this condition isn't really a must) And lastly shouldn't be overly expensive something with a price range of the asus vivobook 13 slate oled. And should also have a touch screen interface since I'll be using the stylus for work. Any suggestions? Pls
No other laptop can meet all those conditions or even most of them. The one that I can honestly recommend is the ROG Flow X13, and that is not OLED. Maybe the ROG Flow Z13? Also not OLED. And they're all expensive as heck.
I noticed that the new Asus lineup has a new design especially the keyboard, it looks like a gamers laptop, do you think it looks ok as a business device or it looks childish!
Will it make a difference if you do a clean install of windows 10 (which also removes any Asus bloatware)? The kind of task I want to do on that tablet requires 0.9ghz (cpu) and 4gb memory only. That's with several browser windows open. But those specs are from my i5 laptop (w/ 4 cores, base spd 2.5ghz, 8gb ram) when I check on task manager. I wonder if I'll still be able to do that on the asus slate tablet.
Your experience may vary from what we got since ours is considered a pre-production unit. A fresh format means I can reinstall all the drivers again (presumably the production drivers) and will perform better. As for the task you're going to use it for, may I know some details about it?
@@NasiLemakTech Running around 6 windows edge browsers. Only simple web pages being opened (not loading any heavy media/videos/ads). I tend to multi-task between browsers so I wonder if that is possible with the pentium silver processor. It was astonishing to see in your video that it consumes 5gb memory already with just chrome and spotify.
I'll say better not. While it can definitely do the task that you want, but it won't be snappy and will definitely have some occasional lags and stutters everywhere.
Did you put screen protector over it? I put one on mine and the touchscreen ( top left part) starting to stop working. Ive read some people complaining about it, it is a defect?
@@NasiLemakTech i already went to asus service.. they even replace the lcd. But still same. I using different kind of screen protector but no difference.. sighh It is okay tho, using this oled without screen protector? 😩
@@NasiLemakTech 1st im using a kinda like hydrogel thingy.. im using this 2 times.. all of them resulted same. 2nd im using the usual thin plastik/film(?).. and the problem still occure. And the weird/ funny thing is the touchscreen worked flawlessly if i touch the bottom right of the bezel, and when im using it on the floor, like wtf? Some kind like electricity problem maybe?
Not sure. Totally depends on what ASUS US wants to bring to the market and it varies between countries. Tbh, I like what you're thinking - installing another OS will do wonders with such a device.
@@NasiLemakTech I bought it and used it for a few days and it feels pretty good, but I am a little curious. I don't know if it supports DisplayPort Alt Mode.
I just asked the customer service in Hong Kong Customer's answer: Upon inquiry, Hong Kong launched the Vivobook 13 Slate OLED in November. The specific model is T3300KA-AOF60031WT. The reference price is HKD$6998, and the actual price is subject to the store. It is close to $1,000. The price is higher than I expected.
