I did a 10 day Mexico out of Los Angeles, NCL. 5 East Coast Families with a grand total of 9 kids between 15-18 were absolute terrors. Days at sea to Cabo, they were stealing drinks form people at the pool. They would go to the buffet and pile up but eat nothing! I had enough finally and got security involved. They gave me a radio and then we had fun. Naturally the parents said NOT MY KID..We had video to prove otherwise. One family was disembarked in Puerto Vallarta. Their Son was the ring leader.

My family and I are glad to hear Cruise lines are finally cracking down on wild teens running around. A few years ago we sailed out of San Juan on Royals Adventure of the Seas there were teens running through the halls banging on cabin doors. I went down to guest services to report this and staff told me there were reports coming from all over the ship like the Windjammer and by the pools as well. Later that evening at dinner in the main dining room the Captain spoke over the mic addressing everyone from San Juan he only spoke in Spanish where the group of teens came from. The Captain was angry you could tell by tone in his voice. But there were so many other teens enjoying themselves with their families no trouble at all. The Captain said if there are any more problems families will be put off at the next stop and get back home on their own.

I’m glad that the cruise lines are enforcing their rules. For those of us who have sailed for the last 37 years it appears that first time cruisers believe that rules don’t apply to them. So many of these rules should be common sense. Instead the word vacation is thought of as a license to let loose and let your inhibitions run amok. It’s okay to relax and turn off the 9-to-5 careers but be aware that others might find that their high energy and raucous behaviors to be unacceptable.

The Doctors on the ship can help or do their best for someone having a heart attack or seizure. If they die then they can store them in the morgue till the next port. The ships do not have a NICU, Neonatal Nurse or neonatologist on board which greatly increases the chances of death for the new or unborn child and mother. The ships do not want to take on this responsibility. As far as being drunk on board they’ll kick you off at any port.

@@Carrusing4us I doubt anyone cruising wants to spend their cruise in a morgue! I was curious so I looked on line. The chance of a baby 28 weeks being born prematurely is 1%. And of the 1%- 80-90% who are born prematurely are fine. I have to say i've not heard of anyone having to be airlifted off due to a premature birth before the recent incident. However i have heard of several people having seizures from alcohol and/or high salt content on board cruises, and/or heart attacks some of whom have died. I think Cruise Companies should be consistent in what they do, based on statistics, rather than penalizing women. At the very least they should inform people prior to purchase of a cruise, and or should suggest medical insurance that covers medivac if possibly applicable.

A... We were boarding a RCL ship in Tampa with a good sized crowd of 8-10 cabins. When we checked in, we were told we'd have to go to desk 1 for an explanation. The we got to desk 1, we were told our cabin had a problem on the last trip, a broken water line flooding the cabin, and they weren't sure if it would be dry in time for us to have access. The Hotel Manager came off the ship, apologized several times, offered us wine and cookies. Meanwhile the rest of our gang all got onboard, we said we meetup with them in the Windjammer for lunch. We were then allowed to get onboard with Guest Services telling us to listen for a page. We found our group and were having lunch when we were paged. The cabin, an interior like the rest of the group would not be dry enough so were given a balcony ... Very nice... Most of the group hadn't been cruising before so tours of the cabin were the first tours we did for this cruise... Great cruise...

I agree. Anyone who cruised 30 years ago, and even 20 years ago, will tell you it is no longer the same and has taken a few steps down. To enjoy a cruise like it previously was, you must book on a more luxurious line and stay away from those that now cater to a family vacation such as NCL, Carnival, and Royal. There are now cruise lines that cater to child-free groups such as Virgin. I have a small scooter and always try to book a handicapped cabin. However, over the years for various reasons I have stayed in a regular cabin. I am able to remove the seat of my scooter, tip it on its side and get it into a small cabin door all by myself. My scooter only weighs about 30 lbs without the seat. My scooter is always placed inside my cabin when I am not using it.....which is when I am in the cabin as well. I wonder how this will affect me over the years to come as I cruise often.....

We have never had any trouble during embarkation-I double and triple-check all of our documents to be sure everything is in order, as well make certain that we have no prohibited items. Concerning scooters, some “drivers” are not careful in crowds; my husband was hit twice by one lady and actually gashed his ankle. The crew who had observed the “accident” wanted him to get checked out by the doctor (which we thought was a good idea), but it would cost US $185 (not the lady driving the scooter). By the way, she never apologized-not even after the second contact.

Unfortunately even the same brand and model can stop in different lengths. Couple that with poor distance judgement and passengers that sometimes cut in front of you, too closely and it’s an accident almost guaranteed. Yes, I even hit the same guy who was walking to the side of us as I was looking at architecture both times he stepped in front of my walker which he knew was there! Even had a teen, on land, cut in front of me not realizing the wheels stuck out. He pushed down on my walker to vault over the wheels. I was surprised he didn’t turn the walker over. This is not to defend many of the oblivious scooter drivers, but I do wish that people recognized they don’t have brakes and thus must coast to a stop even for the best of operators! My warning continues to be if it says rental, stay extra clear. But that unfortunately doesn’t solve the problem you describe.

As a full time power wheelchair user (not a scooter), these people who rent scooters for cruises without any experience drive me crazy. They give those of us who are permanently disabled and experienced drivers a bad name. Since my first cruise in 2014, there has been an explosion of scooter users and many use them merely as a convenience, they are frequently rude and now, even though in 10 years of full time use I’ve never ran into anyone, people jump out of my way or pull their kids several feet away from me. It makes me, who has no choice about using a wheelchair, feel like a pariah and it gives kids a bad impression of power wheelchair users. I’m seriously considering giving up cruising because of these inexperienced scooter renters.

A! My wife is from England and is a lawful permanent resident, but is not a citizen. Before we went on our cruise she called Royal Caribbean to ask if she needed anything besides her green card, drivers liscense and passport to get on the ship and they said no. When we were boarding suddenly they wanted our marriage certificate which was obviously at home half way across the country. They claimed we should have known to have it, so when she brought up that she actually called and asked what we needed the woman at the check in got a bit of an attitude, so I asked "Why would it even matter if we are married, what if we were just dating, would you discriminate against us based on marriage status and not let us board?" And suddenly her entire attitude left and she told us we were fine to board and to have a good trip.

Always trying to rip people off over petty amounts. We were supposed to have $200 freeplay that cruise as part of the booking. We had the flyer they mailed us stapled to the printout of us paying the taxes and tips (the cruise itself is free from casino). They wouldn’t budge on giving me the $200. I tipped almost $1500 to the casino employees. I okayed through well over $50,000. It’s not the $200, it’s the point. It’s honoring your word.

A - Princess ship sailing from Brisbane in February 2024. It was my 28th cruise on Princess. I followed the visa requirements EXACTLY as stated in the Princess paperwork. The Princess staff member who checked me in shuffled and shuffled my paperwork and eventually stated I did not have proper documents and could not board - dismissing me to leave since I could not board. I immediately requested a manager get involved. Upon review of my documents by the manager, I was allowed boarding because I had all the necessary documents and was given an apology for the error due to the staff member not being adequately trained. In my opinion - the staff member should have asked a manager if uncertain, not alarm a passenger, AND WHY WAS SHE ALLOWED TO CHECK PEOPLE IN IF SHE WAS NOT PROPERLY TRAINED! Fortunately my cruise in August does not require any visas so boarding should be stress free!!!! But, who knows.

Not descrimination against pregnant women. Even the healthiest pregnancy can take a horrible turn unexpectedly. Or the woman can fall and hit her stomach. 23 week is when the fetus can live outside the uterus. That is why 23 weeks is the cut off. But it takes very specific equipment and specially trained medical team to provide care to micro-premies. Not every hospital has that ability even in big cities. I know a ship doesn't.

If not, then you might not understand the reasoning behind what she said on the crackdown on the 23+ weeks. A cruise is not a necessity for living your life, it is considered recreation. The ship/cruise line is only obligated to have essential life-saving equipment on board. If a woman cruises and gives birth at 23+ weeks is hemorrhaging, and eventually dies because the ship did not have blood for a blood transfusion on board, who is to blame? If the baby comes out that small and there’s no ventilator to put them on and dies, who is to blame? You might think that never happens, but in hospitals all over the world, it happens every day. Hospitals are required to have specialized machinery/equipment to treat emergencies of all sorts, Cruise Ships Are Not.

Maybe they made that rule because little ones were throwing them overboard wanting to see them float? Nothing is supposed to be thrown overboard

I had a hic-up in boarding once but it was my own fault. I wet shave and use a double edge safety razor. I mistakenly had it in my carry bag instead of my checked bag. I was asked to remove the blade from the handle and dispose of it just as I would be at any TSA check point. If I simply make sure it is in my checked bag just as I would for a flight I don't have any problems with it.

A - Just once, I'm required to use my Green Card to re-enter the US after a cruise so that must be used instead of my passport. I presented my boarding pass (green card info entered to print this out) and my Green Card and the person insisted that I had to use a passport and wasn't taking anything but a passport or I could not board. She finally went and got a Supervisor, who ended up getting a immigration officer and she was corrected and apologized

We had a power cord - of the type (no surge protector and small) recommended by Carnival taken in Tampa. The TSA person demanded to know why we needed it and decided our reasons weren't good enough. Not the question you ask IMHO if the reason was actually safety. Then they marked the wrong stateroom number on the item and swapped ours with a standard household extension cord so we never got it back. I'm not sailing out of Tampa again.

Carnival Firenze is definitely ignoring the "no scooters in the hallway" policy ... we just got off the ship on the 16th and had to maneuver around 2 big scooters parked right next to my door for the entire cruise, when I called guest services they said " Can't you walk around them?" ... Huh ????

@@ellenh4984I was going to ask the same thing, but, with different wording. If the strollers and scooters are necessary for a human to maneuver then the cruise lines should find a way to aid for the sake of the enjoyment of all passengers.

The cruise line has the proper sized scooters for rent. Handicapped people are advised of the size restrictions and given the opportunity to rent one. Scooters in the hallway are an impediment for emergency evacuations.

@@CarolPalmdaleVintagefor some reason many people that use scooters seem to feel entitled. I once mentioned they need a huge scooter to get places but have zero problems walking many times up to & around the buffet. I got comments like well it’s not far to a buffet but going other places is different, not really. If someone can’t rent the size that fits in their room so everyone is safe then they shouldn’t cruise. If people are trying to get off a ship a scooter in a hallway can cost people their lives. It gets congested & people panic then place a scooter in the way or someone trying to get on a scooter in the hallway instead of their room & you are going to have a nightmare.
