⚡️4mins Supabase: Get a Random Row out of Supabase with Table Views

It's not necessarily intuitive to get a random row out of Supabase. That's because currently PostgREST does not support it hence supabase-js etc. cannot either. In this video I will show you how to serve a computed table that takes over that task. And it's damn easy 🦄

Thank you! I was trying to create a SQL function for this, but this approach is great because we can use the Supabase API as normal.

can I ask, is this an efficient way of randomising when you are dealing with a couple thousand rows of data?
@activenode
@activenode 5 месяцев назад
Well let me put it like that: Postgres is pretty good in doing so but if you have many requests with many rows I'd rather suggest you go with the approach shown here jetrockets.com/blog/how-to-quickly-get-a-random-set-of-rows-from-a-postgres-table

This is cool! But wouldn't both the tables get out of sync?
@activenode
@activenode Год назад
Hey man. The View is not a real table. Imagine a View as a "Live-Query" hence it will always be in sync :)
