The object of the global game and gamble is to keep each other alive. So that we can do the job as supreme species to take care of us all. Three Bars standing up. If I was to depict myself as three animals that made me, one would be of k9, another the chimp, another, the pig. We are all kind of different in ways. Similar in others. As long as we can get ourselves from hurting one another, we can get ourselves 'along', to work together, as one, for one another.

What a brave, intelligent and caring man . The best of the best ! My deepest respect and gratitude to you, sir, and all of the defenders of democracy. We all owe you so much.
Thank you David for your selfless service to Ukraine in support of freedom and democracy. Your shared thoughtful insights and experience are invaluable and offer a much needed informed perspective of the situation. Slava Ukraine ♥️
I applaud you David Smith for putting boots on the ground to support freedom and democracy. I have great respect. Thank you from a fellow Canadian. Stay safe.
You think Canada (and the west) are a beacon of freedom and democracy? It baffles me how completely ignorant westerners actually are. Please tell us if u can what makes Canada and freedom and democracy. Think carefully at least make it for me to prove/show you are delusional
There will be nothing of value left in Ukraine by the time Russia has finished with them . This type of war can not be victorious only in the Pyric sense . You have the example of Britain in WW2 the only country in at the beginning and still there at the end ,but in order to survive most of it's assets were handed over to USA ,it lost it's empire wore out it's industry ,exhausted it's population left with debts so great it took half a century to pay off . Then they had to take immigrants to replace the extreme labour shortage from losses ,now they are overrun by immigrants that are in fact taking over the country without a shot being fired . It will be a similar fate for Ukraine but not in detail . You are witnessing the destruction of a nation ,if Russia at any point thinks defeat is imminent they will nuke Ukraine and the world will do nothing /
@@daltontrumbo1007 lol, so just because Ukraine is forced to defend itself from a Russian invasion, that means one day Ukraine will invade Canada? Do you enjoy stumbling through life with only 2 brain cells?
An excellent piece of journalism. I was impressed with the interviewer. Furthermore, this former Canadian Officer is someone we in Canada can be proud of. Thank you Belsat for highlighting this man and for keeping the conflict in focus for the English speaking audience. 🇨🇦 ❤️ 🇺🇦
Great interview with an impressive foreign volunteer. As a U.S. combat infantry veteran who shares nearly all the same views as this volunteer, it’s humbling to see and hear him making the sacrifices necessary to support his beliefs with actions and intent. Much respect.
I am a 4th generation Canadian of Ukrainian decent, but I am proud of you as a fellow human of Earth. It's not about Countries or ethnicities, it's about right and wrong. Be safe.
What an amazing interview - David Smith is so clear, so precise. His points are eloquently put - and he has an excellent understanding of what is happening in our world today and how to approach it. This Canadian man is helping the fight to ensure the world is a better place - putting his life on the line for his fellow man. Respect and admiration from Ireland.
Not often I’ve heard or read thoughts as cogent as that on the current challenge facing the free people of the world. Well done, and thank you to this man.
This has been a very thought provoking conversation. Really can't appreciate the sacrifice and major risk to this Officer, his account is a real sobering perspective and one I completely agree with. You simply cannot negotiate with gun welding dictators. We in the west are so bloody comfortably numb and need to wake up to this power shift. We can't allow the world to be bullied into a dictatorship. People matter. Thanks again and brother be safe as you can on that field.
Thank you David , for your sacrifice and fighting for freedoms of so many people and explaining so many aspects of Putin’s War , salute from Australia .
Any worker has to protect his own health, otherwise he cannot help or be useful to anyone. Why don't you sign up and take a turn in the trenches? You can be the soldier who never leaves!@@frostflower5555
The man has a very clear perspective on whats at stake in the existential global battle between authoritarian dictatorships and representative democracies. Weakness just creates a power vacuum that militant authoritarians are quick to exploit and fill.
I think people like David are the best people in the world. He is a warrior and an intellectual. His bravery and self-sacrifice are extraordinary. Great interview, great insight. The only thing I would take issue with is his characterization of American support. On balance, I think most Americans do support Ukraine, both inside and outside of Congress. However, those who don't are not a trivial few. And should Trump win reelection, we'll see how true that is.
If TrumHitler wins, this world is hdeaded for complete total anarchy on every sq mile. PuHitler and TrumHitler on the world stage,, wow, anarchy like you've never seen before.
Not a Canadian here but i love Canadians and i have friends and family that moved to Canada from Beirut, David is smart and articulate and sticks to his principles.
David Smith - What a lovely man. I am so glad to hear more about Canadians and Canada. May your mission be successful and may you return home in perfect health. Slava Ukraini!
David Smith strikes me as a man of courage, integrity, and clear vision. Such battle-hardened men with moral principles should be put in charge of maintaining world peace instead of spineless political weasels protecting their agendas and interests. This is so painfully obvious in Canada today, where Canadian politicians actively try to destroy and demoralize the armed forces by flinging groundless accusations of guilt and shame instead of using praise to boost the morale of men risking their lives to defend all of us.
Well-spoken professional, an officer who, by judging from this interview, I would have no trouble of saluting. Glad you are on our side, and grateful that you doing the hardest work imaginable for all of us. Be safe.
@@sudfac Are you another nasty troll? A man who fought for the Nazis during the Second World War was invited into the Canadian House of Commons and cheered as a hero during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's momentous visit last week. [2023]. Yaroslav Hunka, 98, waved and nodded to the gallery as he received two standing ovations from Parliament - and Zelenskyy, who is Jewish - for defending his native Ukraine. It later emerged he'd done so as part of a notorious Nazi unit.
There is evil everywhere and it only has to succeed once to make good and innocent people suffer. The good humans are forced to be vigilant and energetic towards detection and eradication of the evil, but cannot succeed every time - they can't see the evil when their hearts are pure.
Excellent interview and very much appreciated as we Canadians do not often hear from our (former) soldiers currently fighting for democracy and keeping war from our country for as long as possible. Slava Ukraini! 🙏🇨🇦🇺🇦
I enjoyed your interview very much and I share his feelings towards peace and democratie. David be safe and keep on carrying dignity trought human words and gesture....
Awesome interview, very well presented, thanks very much for publishing.. I too am joining the ILDU an using my previous armed forces experience to assist as best possible :D Respect!
Putin's invasion of Ukraine is appalling, but the US invaded Iraq and Afghanistan, was that not appalling? Militaristic adventurism can come from 'democratic' countries like the US, just as it can from dictatorships like Russia. Americans (and Canadians) must acknowledge that.
Ah whataboutism, you absolute piece of cognitive garbage, we meet again. If you think you have a point, why don't you try and make it? How is this realization you speak of even remotely relevant to the topic? Are you implying that since nations states have been immoral in the past that it's then OK that russia invades nation states? That's what it sounds like to me. And if it isn't, what practical application could your "amazing revelation" possibly have?
Many, MANY of us protested both invasions, loudly and long. Yes, those invasions were appalling. Even my long dead, right wing father was appalled by those invasions. I hope Ukraine manages to emerge from this as the democratic country they are.
I protested too but we were all ignored. Protesting does no good , but if we don't then wohoever these people are who want war, will have their way.@@hopesnopes
@@sionnachog894 Protests are meant to influence public opinion and make them vote differently. You can not expect the government to listen to you because you protest. You are only one person. Thank you sir fir your service. I'm without words, I just had to listen to David until the end of the interview . He is a clear road of truth, not only is he brave and comited, he values the human cause and fights for it. Thank you David and may you stay safe!
As much i dislike Trudeau, have to disagree, first this is not about Canadian politics. Second, Canada no matter who is prime Minister would ever invade another sovereign nation . I'm full right conservative btw and 3rd generation Ukrainian, Canadian born
(This comment was written around July 24, 2023.) On or near July 13, when I was in Kramatorsk, Ukraine, and on a day before the media reported the counter offense was on a "pause" I set forth the reasons why the counter offense won't be as successful as anticipated: (1) Russian military much stronger than what the media, the news commentators, the U.S. military and others make it sound; (2) the delay in providing Ukraine with military assistance it needed sooner and more of it; (3) failing to provide cluster bombs in a timely manner, and as such. only after the counter offense had started; (4) not enough Ukrainian brigades and the ones they have are inexperienced; (5) delays caused massive Russian defenses to be built with layers of defenses, including tank traps, barbed wire, mine fields; more barbed wire, dragon teeth, fortress like bunkers with machine guns and artillery behind that, (6) absence of enough long range missiles to hit Russian targets far behind the lines (obviously the Kerch Bridge cannot be taken out by Ukraine); (7) the delivery of mine field clearing equipment (8) no air cover with F-16 fighters. Is there or isn't there mine field clearing equipment? If there is such equipment it is impossible to accept anything less than the sabotaging of the counter offense by the West by not providing it to Ukraine before the counter offense started. (Little did I know that some Republicans, the Speaker of the House, Michael Johnson, and Donald Trump would sabotage the $62 Billion Ukrainian Aid Package that the Secs of Defense and State asked for and which the Senate would pass.) How could the chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff, former news media military commentators, the secretary of defense, who was a top military general before he was sworn in as defense secretary, and the president of the United States have failed by not making sure Ukraine had the mine clearing equipment if it needed it? This is a scandal to me. As far as I know, we've had one scandal, i.e. the soldier who posted secret information on social media. There will be more scandals if some of this is not addressed: long range missiles delays, ramping up of ammunition factories, providing enough tanks, Bradley's and other vehicle, (mine sweeping clearing equipment); greater training bases for Ukrainians. The longer this war goes on, the more difficult it will be for civilians, not to mention for the soldiers. One common statement I heard from mid-level Ukrainian officials and other Ukrainians, is "[t]he West thought the war would be over in three days once the Russians tried to occupy Kyiv." The Ukrainians have fought successfully since March 24, 2022. I think today, it will have been 17 months (currently nearly 25 months) since the illegal war started. The Ukrainians have proven to the West that they deserve far more support than we are currently giving them. Why is it that the Americans and other countries are not putting their backbone into it when from what I see, the average Ukrainian soldier is putting in 150% into it? I see soldiers wheeled around from their waist up, and others walking on prosthesis legs. I don't hear complaints. I see a proud mother with her son cut in half parading her son near Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square) In Kyiv. When I was 10 miles from Bakhmut or 8 mlies from Klishchiivka for a few hours during the rotation of brigades I felt adrenaline like I never felt before. I saluted and waved my hat to tank crews roaring by. (In the future is there going to be a shortage of gasoline and tires. I see heavy use of vehicles and tire tread wear near one of the major fronts.) Give them the weapons so they can have a fighting chance. The civilians are still in it. They carry on in these near to the front towns. We must push the Russians back and we must not let them have one more inch. The babies, the young 7, 8, and 9 year olds, the teenagers who wait on tables, and the mothers who carry on with their babies and children in Kramatorsk, while soldiers come and go, must be reminded and must be assured that the Russians will be pushed back so that their way of life can return to a more normal one. Having wrote all of this in July of 2023, I would never that believe that the United States would prevent badly needed military and other aid to Ukraine.
You covered all very good points. I'm saddened by the western response and care of Russian response. Support has to be sent and I mean everything air land and sea weapons. With all the shit show wars the USA has supported and taken part in this fight for Ukraine a country that has fought for over ten years now to be democratic and has so many western values I'm just so disappointed with what has been sent and the lies from those like Mike Johnson and his Maga republicans, there scumbags. We have people like Tucker Carlson promoting Putin's Russia, and Elon Musk calling Ukrainians welfare queens to thank, while Ukrainian people spill their guts for their country. Not to mention Mr Bonespurs, who acts like a Putin fanboy and seems to be doing everything to help him. As a European, I see Drumpf as a friend to Putin. My enemies friend is also my enemy.
The US have reached their goal, ie sever ties between Russia and Germany and are reaping a helluva lot of financial benefits from that. They don't give a damn of Ukrainians nor they are seriously concerned about democracy in Ukraine... it's just politics and money
