Check them out here: www.pickuppickups.com/cyber-series/the-bolt I saw Pickup Pickups Bolt design on instagram, I commented on the post and one thing lead to another and here we are. My two cents Ryan, get another one of these pickups for the neck. Put a Goldo style Trem on this with a roller bridge and you have a funky Surf SG. It would definitely suit you and the channel.🏄😎👍✨
It's about time someone made after market z-coils. I assume that G&L has a patent so no one else can make them. Which means either (if patent still valid) this will get a cease and desist, or (if patent has expired) others will start making these more as well. If there was never a patent preventing others from doing this, I'd honestly be kind of surprised.
@@NeoRichardBlake There's no reason to make the Z-shaped covers when you can do the same thing in a more universal form factor. Duckbuckers, Dominos, etc.
That is pretty cool. Have you ever played any Railhammer humcutters? The clean cuts are humbucker sized noiseless single coils and it’s some of the best surfy tones I’ve ever heard from a noiseless design. I set up a jetsream with them and they are just so perfect for surf.
I was really expecting to not like that lightning bolt pickup, not at all my style. But the sound is INCREDIBLE!! You’re right about it having kinda that tele twang but with a whole jazz master vibe too. Awesome sound, great playing too.
Yeah! The Surfrajettes! They just played last Saturday at the legendary Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, where I’ve seen them before but missed them this time. ☹️ The bolt has an excellent single coil sound. Anyone who’s bought a pseudo Strat and been disappointed with the pickups might be pleased with this replacement. I don’t think many pseudo SG owners will go for them but I could be wrong. Certainly, they’re peachy keen for surf players!
There’s definitely something to be said about the microphonic quality of this pickup, something that I personally love about the old “gold foil” style and vintage stuff that was unpotted. They have a unique way of interacting with the signal chain and are quick to produce feedback that can then be controlled by a skilled player who knows the secret steps of the Amp Dance. Also-Yippie-yi-ooooh, Yippie-yi-yaaaay…👻
Haven't finished watching the video but wanted to say your pickup changing interlude music selection was fantastic. Sort of like Monster Mash reinterpreted through a 70s sci-fi horror fever dream of a movie. Good choice 👏
You must be new around here. it's been his "fast forward " music on every video without fail or variation for ...well at least 3 years just to my knowledge... probably longer.
@@60CycleHumcastthe Acoustasonic Telecaster introduced in 2010, had a chambered body and no soundhole. The one with the soundhole was launched in early 2019 and I'm assuming this means the later ;-)
That would be perfect for 3 + 3 stereo. Right now I have two cigar box pickups hidden in that arrangement for my stereo guitar but I bet this pickup has better output.
Cool idea, love the white and yellow. But black on black is invisible. Red would be a better option (IMO). Being that it's oversized makes this a dealbreaker for me.
I dig it, I bet that would sound really good in the neck. The bridge position is super bright, not a bad thing, I like twang, but feel like it could have done with a bit more mid for my taste. The most shocking thing to me was that you didn't use the yellow one!! I love 3D printed stuff, but the filament texture drives me crazy. I wish more people would jump on resin printing for small parts like that, the finish is a lot smoother.
Sounds good very different. So the obvious question how does it stack up against other pickups and is it worth $100 (which would translate to around €150 by the time I payed shipping and duty if I were to buy one)
Reverend/Joe Naylor has “Cross Cut” humbuckers, which are the railhammers, but it’s only got one rail, and an opposite side of just 3 slugs. They’re supposed to sound like soapbar pickups. (There’s a few models in this design, I believe one of their Billy Corgan signatures uses a special set of them.)
They’re called humcutters, they put the clean cut model (which is very much a fender single coil sound) stock in the Reverend crosscut guitar. Railhammer also makes humcutters in a standard and overwound p90 sound, as well as the Billy corgan signatures. I’ve tried all the non-signature models, they’re very quiet yet very much single coil in character and tone. I have the clean cuts in a Jetstream specifically for surf related uses. I love them.
Sometimes watching your reconstructions causes me to think out loud, suggesting shorter pulses, more resonant LPF, last note of the ring mod part of the intro lower pitch, etc. This is really great, and I feel myself becoming more confident as a producer. Grazie Claudio and team. ❤ Also, look forward to your next collab with Anthony! 😉
Sounds nice! I'd play with it. Really weird and interesting. I feel like I probably wouldn't have the cover on it when playing (I'd put it on for transport) because it's a bit weird though
I do have a Bullet Mustang project guitar, and these would be perfect for it. Unfortunately, I’ve already got new pickups I’m putting in it. I hope they’ll still be making them once I’m ready to swap pickups in it again.
You probably wouldn't want to "tap" a single pickup like that because then only 3 of the strings would be audible. BUT, if you had two of them, you could split the coils so that, say the treble pickup bass strings are on and the neck pickup unwound strings are on and you have the best of both positions.
You could split it to add extra treble or bass into a signal when mixed with another pickup. Or you could do series/parallel switching or out of phase experiments. There’s a lot of possibilities.
I bet you could get Junior Brown (And maybe Tanya Rae?) to collaborate with you, somehow. It would be great for you all. 😉 Also, a bolt the same color as your walls, would be rad. Paint it yourself with the same latex paint? ....And, what about an EVH Wolfgang black and white neck humbucker? 😁
It would be cool if you wire each coil separately to their own toggle switches. That way you could have top 3 strings on your back pickup and your bottom 3 on your front pickup.
15:00 you accidentally switched it to bridge + neck for a second! What were you thinking? Luckily it was too distorted for us to hear what it really sounds like.
I would rather have a Railhammer Humcutter for a humbucker replacement with offset coils. Regarding high-output pickups with dynamics and highs, with low-output versions available, check out an L-500 or L-90 from Wilde Pickups (made by Bill Lawrence's widow and daughter, Becky and Shannon).
Get a second just like that one for the neck. Then imagine how it could be split... how would that sound? Could be great, could suck! Either way it would be unique.
The lightning bolt Pickup cover really makes the guitar look cool. Would definitely get another one for the Neck. By comparison, the traditional Pickup looked kind of lame to me. Was not expecting to like the new Pickup that much.
what it like wth bends on the d and g string alot of those two make 1 single coil will drop volume with you bend from one pick up to the other and when you get in that area volume drops do these do that
I thought of this. The magnets holding the cover aren't inside the coil. Doesn't seem to affect anything in my testing. But use your ears. Do you think the field was compromised? If so, then it's probably not the bolt for you.
I've certainly heard worse! It sounds like a noiseless, Tele pick up crossed with a P90! Certainly a NICE clean guitar pick up! Works ok with dirt as well, but may need a bit of re eqing to even out the brightness. OR wire to a 250K or 300K pot instead! But I DO like it, it's something different! I reckon, with that guitar, get a Tron style pick up from GFS for the bridge & put that Bolt pick up in the neck! Rockin'! \m/
@@60CycleHumcast Yeah, like when I’m scrolling and the video auto plays, without clicking on it. This is the only video, I’ve seen, of yours with no audio. Thanks for responding. To quote Pete and the Pirates, “and, if you don’t understand, than at least ask why.”.
Hmmm,...yeah, I really wouldn't want two of those adorning my guitar. Not a good look. It is a fun idea, but this particular implementation has a significant visual issue the makers really should have noticed. It struck me immediately.
