It is very high standard work. I have to confess that I don’t feel the need to go to those extremes. My shop is not a showroom for my work and I don’t go to site. I want my tools and their holders to be neat, tidy and functional. Not that different to my bench - otherwise I’d be almost afraid to use it. The way in which you store your tools is surely part personal preference and part dictated by the way you work. As I say, I’m shop-based and therefore don’t need to carry tools around with me. I bought several tall office-surplus tambour door cupboards. I then fitted 2 of them out with “vertical drawers”. That is, using slides top and bottom and with a sheet of 18mm MDF vertical. They now slide in and out. I then fix either French cleats or racks depending upon the tool. I like to have my full set of chisels, be they mortice, Japanese or dovetail, in from one me on the bench. So I have made containers very much like the ones featured here but without the tambours. The chisels are held in at one end by a socket hole (made by Forster bit) and a hidden magnet at the other. For me, that satisfies the tests of form and function adequately.
