Big help needed!
1. Are the advertised fuel economy figures accurate?
2. Can these be run to dry without complication?
3. If I run to dry, can I bleed the fuel system by the roadside?
4. Fancy coming along in convoy? I'm planning the trip to start in Lands End on 4th July.
5. Has anyone got contacts in Shell or BP who might be interested to see what their fuel can do?
6. Finally, thanks for all your support on the channel.
If I've helped you, or just want to say thanks, then please buy me a coffee:

I can’t wait to watch this! Definitely need to make a video about the journey. I reckon you can do it with a low speed; some astute use of getting a tow from trucks on the motorway sections; and the balls to just see it through to the end of the tank. Best of luck Ed, I’m rooting for you!!

Have a look at It's Joel's channel - he just did Scotland and back from the South East on one tank in a 3.6 TDV8

An interesting challenge but he only achieved 700 miles. I’m trying 837. Albeit in the slightly more economical 4.4.

@@Back_Road_Hero he also said how much was left in the tank at the end which would probably help. Worth a watch!

Hmm, I don't think you'll make it tbh, most I've seen on mine has been around 36mpg going off the gauges. Have run out of fuel once, it restarted on the button after a couple of minutes of turning over. You'll definitely not be making use of both of those twin turbos anyway! :) 8th gear and ticking over the whole way, ~50mph... good luck, will look forward to the video!

I tried to hypermile a 4.4 tdv8 l322 and you have to stay below 50 and press the stalk to instantanius fuel and when not on throttle says 99 mpg and you have to accelerate so gently to keep fuel above 45mpg read inclines and hills to ensure you keep momentum before you hit them as throttle use on them soon pulls firgure way down. It's a great tool for the journey as really helps you not burn fuel. I managed 54 mpg over 125 miles but stayed between 45 to 48mph at 5am on empty m4.. east to west so all downhill through bath jctn 18 dowhill to bristol and down hill after m5 jctn to wales. Just can't see how you would get the elevation out of Cornwall up m5. You would have to drive at night and sleep in day to avoid traffic and at low speed on motorway use hazard lights if cars approach fast from the rear on quiet motorway. You may have done it by now but a v6 l405 being lighter and more car like may have a chance but I think you are asking alot as if you split trip and have cold engine that will need planning as up hill on cold start will get you below 15 mpg. Normal motorway speeds and above I got 28mpg on screen computer so seems in reach but never got over 520 miles on full tank. Work that out,either computer is way off and is a dieselgate computer or a feel good guessometer. Also you looking at distance and all uk speedos read different you need to sync gps speed and distance as 2 cars on different size tyres can cover same route and show different miles covered. Who knows if speedo is accurate. I've owned l322's 12 yrs and would never believe the computer as my fuel bills don't match. Just please put on you tube and do it in the dry high tyre pressures and before it rains as more rolling resistance and follow a lorry real close to get less air pressure. Don't think you will get over 780 real gps miles.

Thank you for the considered response. I’m still in the planning stage and you’re right in thinking that the on board computer is wildly optimistic! I’m currently calibrating a ScanGauge2 OBD computer. Looks like it will be a tight one but challenges aren’t meant to be easy. Ed www.scangauge2.co.uk

@@Back_Road_Hero thanks and I never measured fuel before or after but do know I had an average of 32 mpg on car trip computer yt could never do 320 miles on 10 gallons and if I was to guess i wold say 200 ish miles on 10 gallons mixed driving and feel it is not a fuel computer but a feel good compiter. Just rin car until fuel light comes on put 5 gallons in and see how many miles you do before it lights back up. Will shock you

Hello, the fuel system will bleed with a few ignition cycles, has an electric lift pump. Just be aware that running the fuel system dry is not a good plan - the high pressure pump relies on fuel for lubricant. Active DPF regen won’t be established when fuel below a quarter, all though minor detail. Have achieved 37 mpg in mine with cruise at 55 mph. Are you planning on using premium fuel or regular? Love a challenge like this, enjoy the drive and the vehicle

I’m hoping to get some of the large companies on board (I doubt it though). Ultimate or Vpower I don’t know yet.

my 3.6 tdv8 will achieve 35 mpg so the 4.4 should have no problem getting 38
@tomcobbly8672
@tomcobbly8672 Год назад
You may need a DPF regen en-route which will drop your mpg considerably during the process

Hopefully the run down to Lands End will clear everything out.

Take your bike with you mate , you will fall way short, you will be lucky to get 28 to the gallon with a lot of lifting

In my experience so far, mid to high 30s is achievable. It will make it interesting though if you're right.
