Owner of 771g Here: Results. gpu used to be 91C and cpu used reach up to 103C. Now after 20 minutes of gameplay gpu reached 52C while cpu reached 60C. I say its a huge success. I used zalman for thermal paste btw Really apperciate the video helped me a lot. I just ended up with 1 extra screw but its okay xD
Bought my Acer Aspire V3-772G over four and a half years ago. Issues with shut-downs and bluescreens started about two years ago and although I didn't buy the machine for gaming, I played (or tried to play) from time to time -- just I couldn't really because of (I assumed) over-heating. Another two and a half years later, I was finally prepared to try to do something about it, but I was scared as hell to touch the inner sanctum of my laptop. So far, I had only exchanged one hard drive for another and felt like Einstein when it worked. Your video was exactly what I needed to find the courage to take the next (and probably last) step; I don't think there's anything I'll need to touch on this or any deeper level. When I had disassembled the parts, at least as much dirt as you showed us in your video was clinging tightly to the fan's blades and that part where the heated air is supposed to pass through. The whole procedure took me about two hours, mainly because I had to have a bulldozer transport all the crap from the fan out of my house ;) Seriously, I had previously ordered thermal paste to have it ready when the day for the vivisection would come. To say it was all a breeze would be wrong -- I HATE those flat cables! But thanks to your tutorial I was able to do it on the first go. Now the fan purrs like a cat when it is even running at all. Chapeau, Monsieur! Well done!
Nice to hear that so many (as well as You) encouraged to do this labor work Yourselves. Mentioned a million times that with RU-vid + some right tools You can open Your own PC-repair-shop :) Sad that RU-vid stopped paying money for views and I have lost a desire to capture such repairs (as I am still doing this activity with camera off).
My 8 year old Acer was running the fan constantly and I could feel the heat coming up under my left hand on the keyboard, especially when I was using a virtual machine to test some code. After following these steps, my ancient Acer feels like it has several more years of useful life. Thanks for spending the time to make the video.
Thank you so much for your useful video! My husband managed to clean my laptop in one hour using your guidance! ok ok, he said he would do it anyway, but with your video it went much faster! :)))) The peace of dust inside was huuuuge! now my laptop is functioning perfect. Thanx again, your video is the best of all such guides that I have seen. Great job 👍👍👍
Hello! Great video! A question though... i see that when you take the FAN apart, its held up by tape! which tape would you recommend if the current one doesn't stick anymore? (step 17 ) thank in advance!
Was only changing HDDs and SSDs. I just took the next step thanks to this video ! Much appreciated bro ! Also took care of that fan screw, in the end I had no extras :)))
CPU: 106 (idle) crash on load, after the guide 56 (load) GPU: 96 (idle) could not test load obviously, after guide 49 (load) Thanks alot man, it were over 15mm of dust in there, it touched the fan... hate that they dont give us easier access
Does anyone know how i can get new keys for this one? my "S" And "X" Broke off same with the little rubber things under it... Anyone knows where i can get them? -Thanks
I strongly suggest You do not use old compound as it may have dried or have some impurities. Buy something like Arctic MX4 or similar, no regrets having this.
Hey man! great video! I have the same laptop I followed your video step by step. However, I have one problem now, my screen is black. the laptop turns on, I can hear the CD drive sound and the fan running, but the screen stays black. I read it might have to do with the RAM, do you have any other suggestion of what I can check?
Excellent ! I have the same PC and the same problem but I certainly have not the courage to do all of this I certainly forget a crew or to rebranch something .....
Acer V3 -771G snd 772G are facing graphics processor overheating issue quite often. I would recommend to clean up fan as fast as You can. You could burn GPU with that dust layer. Don't be afraid ;) this laptop model could be dissembled very easy. Most of screws are the same size, You don't need to use force to remove palm rest and bottom cover. Go for it :)
Thanks a lot for this feedback. I had my PC repair expert who told me that the fan cleanning was not enough and that the fan is "dead" and must be changed (He obviously have commercial interest. Therefore, I wanted to know what is the duration that we could expect of absence of heating after doing this and by the way can you advice me on the model of the themric cooling product that you ve put on the CPU and GPU ?? thanks in advance
The fan is running? If it is still running and does not make strange noise - You don't need it to be replaced. Heating damage could be done in a long period of time: soldering of GPU is not that strong in these laptops. In this video I was using Deep Cool Z5 thermal compound (10ml for 3€), but now I am using better one - Arctic MX-4 (20ml for 19€). And I would recommend to use more expensive thermal paste (thermal conductivity of MX-4 is ca. 7 times better than Deep Cool Z5). Cheap thermal compound should be replaced more often and is not that effective on high-power (and high heat together) GPU/CPU. Good luck on this DIY ;) It is not a rocket science on Acer V3 :)
Thank you so much for the video, it feels like my 4 year old laptop has been revived. On another note, ribbon cables needs to have the blue plastic backing to connect. If the backing happened to fall out, use a fit-to-size double sided tape to stick it back before plugging in the cable.
Just followed your video. Wasn't as difficult as it looks. Ended up with 3 screws left over. But everything is done and working. Fan and heatsink was blocked by dust. I cleaned it and applied new thermal paste to cpu and gpu. Temperatures remain low now. And this old laptop is actually usable again. I've got an ssd and more ram on the way. Thank you for the great video
Hi,help me pls. Band did not keep them together,if l touch fan it seperates from black part,is it dangerous for pc ? imgur.com/a/44iRBk8 If its dangerous, where l can but this band.Thank you
After reassembling only half of my keys on my keyboard are working. Every second or third key doesn't work and so it doesn't print the half word by writing. Do you know what the error may be?
Would have been better to put the notifications at the bottom of the screen as you were obscuring some of the work that you were carrying out on the dismantling and applying the CPU paste.
Thanks for the great video! This was my second time replacing thermal paste by your tutorial. First when my computer was 2 years old, and now when it is 5 years old. I gave it to my wife and bought a new gaming laptop, so we could play together. The fans were loud even after boot up and CPU temps were at 93 degree Celsius. Now the temps are down to 75 degree, even while under heavy load and running games. My thermals grease was even burned at one corner of the GPU. Sad thing is, it seems the laptop is nearing the end of it's lifetime, as I found several broken plastic parts inside, mostly around the hinges, every plastic holding them is broken, they are held only by the screws. Anyway, a great laptop even after 5 years of usage. And thanks for the very useful video!
Hello ;) times passes so fast. I would recommend to use hot glue gun to prevent plastic from breaking apart (when you disassembly a computer, just spot right places where is enough space for glue).
Thank you so much for putting this out. I cleaned my laptop thanks to this video 1.5 years ago. Now it is 60 degrees on idle and I think time has come again. Is it ok if I don't renew thermal paste this time? On a humorous note, first time, there was one screw left after I finished everything and even though I checked all the places again it looked complete! Seems like that was ok after 1.5 years later.
You may have already done this again but the first time I opened my laptop to clean the fan I didn't replace the thermal paste and it worked like a charm. Just so you know ;)
After a year of random BSODs and shut downs when my kids go to use it for games and swapping bad ram, I think this might be the issue, needs new thermal paste and thorough clean! Cross fingers will report back. I ran several GPU benchmarks and saw the gpu temp rise rapidly but works fine on normal use, just anything graphic intensive just shuts down.
Im still quite scared to open up my lsptop and clean the fan as well, The area of keyboard nearest to the fan wont respond Fan sounds like a 747 engine Cpu and gpu is WAY too hot Battery and charging probloms Hard drive failed multiple times I dont think i want to open my laptop and probably damage it further but ill probably do it anyways.
While you are having doubts, your chipset is going to loose soldering and then: thrash bin or really expensive re-soldering process (not worth for such old laptop). Do it. If you fail, then you can look for another gaming machine :)
I konw the video ist a little bit old but I have a question and I hope you'll answer. The question is: Can I use the old grease again or not? If not where I can buy it?
Old grease looses its characteristics (lower thermal conduction, liquid becomes hard substance). You can buy thermal paste from ebay or Aliexpress. Now I am using this one Arctic MX: ali.pub/1kug8v Or you can simply buy economy for $1: ali.pub/1kugcy I recommend to buy a bit more expensive. It will last longer and will be enough for Yours and Your family computers (like 10-40 thermal grease renewals depending on tube size You buy).
The audio speaker cable will not come out. I pull very hard and it still wont budge. Is there a certain way to do it? Is there a push mechanism or a latch or something? You did it so easily in the video, i'm very confused.
I finally got it. It took about 2 hours of trial and error. I used two flat screwdrivers as leverage on the corners. It came out with a lot of force. There was a very small scratch afterwards on the motherboard but it didn't cause any problems. Thank you so much for the video. I've had the laptop for about 8 years now and it was really going down hill. After repasting and cleaning the fan, it's literally like brand new again. ❤
Thank you, I've done it today and it took me about 30-40 min. It's a huge difference, an almost 10 years old laptop seems like new. Before I just turned it on and open a browser and the CPU was at 90 degrees, now whatever I do it doesn't go past 65 degrees and it's very quiet.
Amazing video ruined by terrible audio. How do I turn off the audio when uding android app and meanwhile listening to my radio through same smartphone?
Thank you very much bro, i own v3 771G with i5-3210M and GT 630M 2GB, they used to go to 72-75 C but after changing thermal paste (i used arctic mx-4) now it can't cross 55-60C on idle it works on 45-50, also i finished with two extra screws but it's working 😂
Thanks for the vid! A question though, at 9:20 do you *click* the flat blue cable (MB on it) in the connector or does it slide under. Can't seem to get it to stick....
Hi, just a follow up...I finally found and bought a cheap i7-4712mq and swapped it with the origin i5-4200m...successfully :) Also repasted three times since the first time I saw your video so thank you very much for your guide!
@@ramunasusinskas3756 hi, sorry for the late answer...90 euros, used item...not bad overall, some "reconditioned" from China costed 140 euros, everything on ebay...happy new year!
I don't have these platisc tools 😓 Anyway, I have the V3 772G - 7872 16GB RAM with nvidia 750M. Does anyone know if it worth to upgrade it? Besides more 16GB of ram and a SSD drive, is there anything else I can upgrade it? Maybe the video card or the processor? Thanks for the video. I hope someone could help me with my questions.
Plastic tools are optional (safer for electronics and plastic parts). About an upgrade: don't waste your money. Better save it for another laptop (it would be way more powerful, energy efficient).
@@ramunasusinskas3756 Thanks for the attention. Once, when I was much younger, I tried to remove the processor with a screw driver and I made a little tiny scratch on my Asus motherboard. HAHAHA Tragic. It died.
THANK YOU for that video My computer is 6 years old, never cleaned inside because I was too scared to open it. I followed your tutorial 1 step at a time... It was absolutely dusty and disgusting in there, and now it's all clean \o/
@@MrLookinek88 I finally took the risk do it. I took 2 hours 30, 'cause I had to disassembling it twice! Now I know intimately my Acer and can do it without the tutorial. A cable wasn't properly connected and the screen was green and blocked... After a bit of stress I finally fix it, my Acer took almost 30minutes to come back to life, updating and loading. But now everything works perfectly. Lot of dust inside. It finally stopped to make this hellish sound, it can breathe normally again, it s a real relief. Thank you.
@@tigerbokken6922 Cool to hear that! :) now you can go for any notebook in the future :) it's just simple as follow the steps on the videos and you are fine! :P
Okay, I think I might attempt this, but first I need to know... how can I fuck this up? I have no idea what I'm doing, I'm in serious need of some guidance.
Well, um, I barely even started and there's an issue. One of the HDD screws was on too tight and I totally ruined its head trying to get it out, and it hasn't budged even a little. I looked it up but none of the solutions I found made sense for such a tiny screw. What should I do?
Well, um, You have used wrong-sized screwdriver then :D There are 2 options: try better screwdriver (and push down with more force while un-screwing). I guess You have only 1 try for this solution (because You'll damage it fully). Other option is to use a drill and drill-out screw's head.
Ramūnas Ušinskas I think I did the former one too many times, and I don't have a drill unfortunately. I think I'll call the place I got thermal paste from and see if they can help. Thank you for being so helpful
i unplugged and plugged the audio cable and now the speakers work! i tried the same with the touchpad cable, but it still doesnt work properly... it cant left or rightclick...
I'm going to try this out tonight. Mine is nearly 9 years old. I always used a laptop cooler with extra fans to raise it from the table, which probably helped to extend its lifetime, but after all this time the laptop is intensely heating up regardless. I'm not a computer wizard, so I'm afraid to do something wrong. But I'll follow your steps and I'll let everyone know whether a computer dummy like me can pull it off and whether it helped or not.
You wouldn't believe the sheer amount of crap I pulled out of the fan on my V3-771 (first edition afaik, purchased May 2012) when I followed this procedure. I'd say it was an inch and a half of pure hair, dust, and other shit piled up between the fan outlet and the output fins. I wish I would have taken a picture. I've had this laptop since brand new, going on 6 years now and it's been an absolute beast with the i7 and dedicated graphics card. No, I do not use it for gaming anymore, or really when it was new. But it's still as fast as a brand new laptop and after cleaning it out it's even better. It used to howl on full blast all the time even with average load! If you have one of these laptops you NEED to clean it out and replace the thermal paste. I did up the ram to 16gb which is nice, but I'm in the land of diminishing returns when it comes to daily use. Electronics lose longevity and reliability with heat, I wish I would have cleaned it out sooner.
I am happy that it helped You to do this job ;) The bad thing, that 6 years is enough for copper heat pipes to worn out (it looses liquid from inside) and works ten times less effective. If cleaning up does not reduce fan speed, You may need to test heat pipe (putting one side into hot water, the other side should become hot in milliseconds).
Paper towel works just fine :) Don't use too much force while cleaning :) If it's too hard to remove, use plastic card (credit card or similar). Never use metal tools, You'll make a damage on surface or even worse - break silicon crystal.
Hey man Nice video! :) I do have a vew broblems... Sometimes my laptop just shuts down :l Also i forgot to put any tape on the things Is this a big broblem?
If You are talking about the sticky tape - no problem. If You forgot thermal pads or thermal paste (grease) - it is the reason Your laptop shuts down. You'll burn You motherboard in this way.
Hello ! Thanks for this video ! I want to clean my laptop but i have a last question before doing it - Why does the pc reset like at the end of the video ? Will it reset my laptop if i do it ? - at 7:23 you touch some white paste what is it and why you touch them ? - for the thermic paste how much should i put ? and only on the 2 spot you put it ? Thanks, have a nice day
Hello, PC does not reset. I have installed new SSD and fresh Windows. That's why it look like a reset. At 7:23 it is thermal pads. I just re-arrange them to touch RAM chips later. You can skip it. Thermal paste (compound) should be added to GPU and CPU only. You're welcome :)
Hi. Thanks for the video. looks really clean and simple the way you did it. Question before I start this process, my laptop sits now at 35-45 C at idle or light use (fan spins always but that's like this since i installed W10) and goes up to 80-90 on all cores when stressed at 100% Is this normal or should the temps be lower and I need to clean the fan? thanks
Sasse, don' underestimate yourself. This laptop is really one of easiest to disassembly to. Takes i bit of time, but you will feel better after doing that youself :)
@@ramunasusinskas3756 yes i figured out that the PC only starts if the RAM is in a right order. So now he is starting again and the fan is working etc. but i get nothing on the display. i really dont know why the pc is not showing me sth. The monitor cable is looking fine and reconected. ... thanks
@@ramunasusinskas3756 Is there something special with the screws or sth because i am testing it only with nothing screwed into it. So maybe the laptop knows that and avoid sth to break ?
@@360xboxgamer1for1, should not be related. When using laptop without screws, be careful as you could short-circuit with laptop internal case side (it is covered with conductive material). Normally, I only test laptops with fully seated motherboard (with all screws), but top palmrest is not necessary.
Hello :) Have You solved Your problem? 1st thing is to check if all cables and connectors are in place. If You were working carefully and don't damaged any part, nothing wrong can't happen :)
I saw there is an mSata slot. What ssd do you recomand for that slot? On some online shops i found this kind of products but the users said that they have a short life cycle.
Hey there! Thanks for the really good guide through the assembly! =) My question is: Do you have any recommendations concerning the tape? Is there "better" tape?
Hello there! I have never bought conductive tape before, so I am not good adviser about this :) I would simply try to buy any and next time going to know the quality. Good luck with repairs! :)
Thanks for this great video, it's really helpfull. Do you think I can apply Liquid Metal instead of thermal past on this one ? I can see that the surfaces in contact with the cpu and the gpu are cooper, but the rest of the heatsink is grey, is that aluminium ?
Hello. It is not aluminium definitely :) so kind of alloy with perfect thermal transfer rate. If you put liquid metal which is electrically conductive, just try to avoid that inside (or secure from falling near components).
Awesome guide man I have had overheating issues with this pic for a while and being able to properly clean the fan and heat sink have changed that thanks again
Thanks for the video but i'm just not going to buying anymore Acer computers. Having to disassemble the WHOLE damn thing just to clean the fan is stupid! Plus it seems like a lot of the people who try this themselves end up having new problems afterwords.
You're a fool then. These are some of the easiest and most reliable laptops you can buy and just because you won't spend 1-2hours once in what 5+ years?! Doesn't mean Acer makes bad computers.
@@mitchellroberts7954 The man never said they were bad or unreliable, the point was that this model is a clusterfuck of a design in terms of access to the fan. Unfortunately, it seems to be the same with a lot of other manufacturers - they clearly don´t want people to DIY the maintenance.
Thank you so much. I feel like I have brought my laptop back from the dead. Cpu temp used to be around 60s-70s just by playing a movie and gpu also in the 60s area. The fan was extremely loud. After cleaning the fan and changing the thermal paste I have droped the cpu temp at the 40s area and the gpu also down to 36-37celsius. Your guide was extremely helpful !!!
HI Mate, great video, i got the machine, and I'm thinking of just doing that- slightly scared though. few questions: 1. what is that tissue at 6:25 2. what kind of paste did you use (new grease) 3. what is that u do at 7:25 with those small "stickers"? or is it something else?
Hi there ;) 1. This tissue has alcohol in it so it helps to clean old grease easier. But You can use paper towel as well. 2. Paste I have used was cheap one (like 3€/5ml tube). But now I am using Arctic MX-2. Buy on Your own budget :) 3. That small stickers are used to keep RAM chips cooler. You can replace them with new (conductive pads) or re-arrange old ones.
I used Alphacool Rise Ultra Soft 2mm. Arctic Thermal Pad 1mm did not work for me, there were huge gaps between some VRAM chips and the GPU heatsink. I did not find Alphacool Eisschicht Ultra Soft 2mm in stores, I would definitely try them instead of Rise, because they look even softer and could do nicely with filling uneven gaps when attaching the heatsink.
Video is 5x faster than normal speed. It takes a bit time to disconnect that cable. Carefully push with tool + gently (very very gently) pull the cable.
Thanx for your Vid. Just cleaned it and everything is running fine again. My Aspire was heating up to 40 degrees C on the left and CPU was slowed down to 100MhZ :-).
