This is awesome!! TY! Another tip: 3M says that the strips are designed to be vertical and they are MUCH STRONGER that way. They suggest cutting off the tops of long strips to use them vertically instead of rotating them 90 degrees.
I am so happy I came across this video! I live in an apartment on rent, so basically I can't really do anything to the walls. This has helped me a lot. THANK YOU SO MUCH! ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!
Just get a matched quart of paint at Home Depot and a small container of joint compound. When your ready to leave the apartment repair it yourself. If you have hardwood floors, these could potentially fall off and damage the flooring, and that is a much harder and more expensive fix. Plus you will have extra paint around if you need to touch things up for peace of mind.
Dior Quartier. Holy cow loll 🤭💔 I honestly can't tell if we're on the same page bc that was a cryptic Evanescence joke, but.. 1 pt Dior: I do have depression (owned) 1 pt Me: I have a therapist, coping skills, and a good attitude
I’ve used these strips for a very heart picture and it’s been successful for over 2 years. You have to purchase by weight suggestions. They have the as much as 70lbs in weight and think even heavier
Glad I found this video. I was thinking of using these command strips for some floating shelves but didn't realise they need to be put in a corner. Very useful video, thanks for uploading!
OMG, thanks for this! I am getting into collecting a few Funko Pops, and I wanted to put a few on shelves like this but didn't want to damage my apt walls while doing so. I did a Google search, and found this video, and this is so useful. Thanks for sharing!
Before you do this hack, do a proper assessment of the surface you are mounting the strips to. The strips are rated to hold a certain amount of weight adhered to a solid surface, but you're most likely mounting this on painted drywall. The wall surface may rip off well before the mounting strips. If you are renting, definitely make sure to take these down before someone else moves in. The next person will not necessarily know how you mounted these to the wall and they may assume its stronger than it is.
All my velcro adhesives fall off the wall after a month or two lol. No matter how light the item is too. I have one 9kg hook holding a novelty hat that weighs less than 500g and it’s fallen off multiple times. Dont use these on painted drywall, it just doesnt work
I used 3M dual lock for hangers on the wall where I put my drones. They seems to hold well, but one of them failed already so I wouldn't rely on it. The shelves can be used only for light stuff, one calculus book would break it.
I wish I knew about these strips before I tried to put up my corner shelf up with nails and screws. What a nightmare! Came very close to throwing my hammer through the wall.
I don't think this will work in the bathroom, that's where I need it the most. All the condensation over time will wear on the adhesive. Any suggestions?
for the bathroom id use nails personally. i drilled into my wall and i rent. if/when i move you can always do a simple pass over any holes with some cheap spackle
Your LACK shelves are different than the ones I have here. The ones I have do not have that middle piece therefore don’t have a place where the tape can be placed on the non colored side :/
because its the wrong thing to use regardless, the entire point of the strip is its removability, which requires you to stretch it using the tab like chewing gum so it loses its grip, so the tabs have to stick out, and the strips can't be nailed. When his shelf fails its going to pancake world trade tower style, its just a bad idea. Plus the adhesive strip rating is for weight pulling straight down from a hook, the levering force of a shelf reduces the hold rating to nothing. Any double sided tape strong enough to make this work would cause more damage to your wall than a screw would.
I used the command strip and it put a hole in the paint on the wall when I removed it, I returned it for refund back to hammer and nail to hang stuff up
A couple of warnings: 1) I ordered the shelves from the link and they look exactly the same, EXCEPT that the side meant for mounting does not have the area in the middle that would be flush with the wall as in the video. I.e., the entire side is recessed and there's nowhere to put the command strips that would be flush with the wall. I guess they changed the design. So the easiest options are to use hardware or expose the ugly mounting side to the world. 2) Make sure your corner is 90 degrees. If both sides can't be flush with the walls then you're going to have a bad time. Many apartments and buildings have walls that are not quite at 90 degrees.
I realized this too. If you have a 3d printer you can design a corner piece to fix both the problems by re-adding the removed middle portion of the shelf then adding a bit of chamfer so if your walls are not perfectly at 90 degrees you can add a few degrees.
For me it's hard to order from Amazon without a credit card so I hope that stuff can be found here in Holland too or just some online store that does accept PayPal. I really like this idea.
Couple of things don't make sense. 1) How do you get it off? Doesn't seem possible to pull on the strips to release the glue. Also doesn't seem possible to detach the heavy duty velcro from 2 mounted surfaces which are perpendicular to each other 2) If it's not possible to release the strips or detach the velcro, why not just 3M heavy duty double sided tape?
There is a tab to pull that will release the strip. My shelf is still up. Of course if you aren't sure use nails. But I was experimenting. Check out my 1 year update. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w9oJfk5OpIc.html
This is general idea of what can put on shelf .lego, postage stamps 🤣.. i want to trust this but im scared , wil they rip paint off and fall that way tho?
This seems like a nice idea and never thought of it. Just moved into an apartment and there is no holes that can be put in the wall so no nails. Back in 2015 I went to Japan but ended up getting a good amount of figurines when I went to the arcade when it started raining when I had no coat or umbrella. Now that I have my own place I have been thinking about displaying them just for the hell of it. This may work for my project as the figures are not that heavy and there is only 4 small ones and 3 normal size ones.
Definitely give it a try. Ideally, just use nails if you're allowed to. I don't like to drill or nail things on walls so the 3M command stuff works for me. But I don't put heavy things. Check out my 1 year update video showing it's still up.
would like to use nails but not allowed to put holes in my walls and ya I saw the 1 year video and in that video is way more weight then what I will be putting on it.
I just talked to my landlord and I guess I am allowed to use small nails but nothing as big as a screw and such. Don't know if it would be ideal but might go that way now but will give it a look into now. But thanks for the alternate idea just incase my current one fails.
Adam Hatfield yup. I was wondering why it said ‘new’ on the site. Went for pickup and got home and realized they don’t have the little block that makes it flush with the wall.
Not if you put literally nothing on them like this guys does. The shelves themselves don't weigh much, so if you don't load the shelves with anything, they'll be fine.
I used them to stick a long mirror on my door. But the mirror is thin and light. Nothing heavy. www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Full-Length-Beveled-Edge-Mirror-48-x-12/21156245
As a landlady this is literally my nightmare. As someone has said remove and repair walls before you go because this type of thing cost me a ton on repair work when my last tenant moved out. I’d told them not to drill and they had sticky tape and glue holds on so many walls. All the lining paper ripped off and it cost me hundreds to fix.🤬
crying because I just found out that the corner of my wall where I want to put the shelves are not 90 degrees. I know most wall corners aren't, but its far enough where I can't use the command strips on one side.
