Travel with pending affirmative asylum claim is allowed using an advance parole only. Generally speaking, a person who has a pending asylum claim should not be traveling to their home country, so should not his or her dependents. Asylum claim will be regarded as abandoned if a person does not follow the rules. A person in removal proceedings, should not be traveling and cannot usually obtain advance parole.

Good day Alena, if I have my Asylum application from Belarus is pending and I would like to travel, let’s say to Mexico or Canada, to see my relatives I haven’t seen for 3 years. Will this be a reason for obtaining advance parole? Will I have any issues coming back and/or negative consequences at the interview?

Alena all l can say is government have to revise the people who file Asylum and pending for 5 years and the kids are fighting you as a parent for leaving them for so many years .That's breaking the connection with your kids its better the government to decide as early as like at least 24 months not being quiet for up to five years this is causing damage to families

But before my case was approved, I was in the USA for 6-7 months with an expired visa (illegally). Will these factors affect when returning to the US with a travel passport? What are the disadvantages of obtaining a travel passport?

You should be able to, but be prepared to demonstrate you have an authorization to remain in the US: local CBP checks that unlike if you travel within the US without visiting islands.

Hi Victor, it may impact the decision/process if your asylum case is referred to court while the I130 and I485 are pending. I would suggest calling to schedule an appointment and go over your options and the pros and the cons of each option to make sure you are aware of certain issues that can pop up in cases like the one you just described. 917-885-2261

I have some questions. 1. After green card issued thru asylum, can I travel to other countries other than my home country? 2. Would I be traveling on my old home country passport or the new asylum passport? Which one would be used? 3. There are some visa free countries given on the internet for travel for those holding asylum passport. What about other countries not mentioned there? Do we need to apply for visa for those countries being treated as American passport holders? 4. What's the difference between asylum advance parole and asylum passport? Who gets what?

Hi alena , my dad is main person in asylum case. Im derivative asylum seeker by being his son. Our case took 4.5 years already and we haven’t scheduled for interview yet. @@yashh4427 no haven’t applied. Our case is granted and I applied for refugee travel documents. Waiting on that rn. Also just a brief, our lawyer said it’s not a good reason to get advanced parole. Good luck hopefully Everything works well for you.

@@halitisim9106 thanks for a quick reply. I have been here for 5 years now and don't know when I'll get my interview. Being away for 5 years from the person you love it's really tough and that's the only reason why I am ready to take the risk. I consulted my lawyer and he said it's not a good idea but life sucks either way. I have been looking online for a success story someone who has done it and were able to get back in.
