Having stayed at the Baiyoke Sky a couple of times it was really interesting to find out the story behind it. I also want to thank you for the brilliant walking tour you took me on last week. I learned more about Bangkok in a few hours than I have in the many years of coming to the city. Since the tour I’ve revisited your videos covering the areas we walked around and feel I have a much better understanding of these places now. Thoroughly engaging and highly recommended, thank you Pat
Great job Pat ! But, I must say, all of your vids are top notch. You are brill in how you present the positives/negatives. Evenly balanced without hitting viewers over the head with it. Camera work very well done as usual. Really liked the dusk shots. A mix of lighting that kind of reflects the mixed feelings. Appreciating the beauty of the city yet cringing at the sight of the deplorable air conditions.
Not many cats up on Baiyoke Sky is there Pat? I've no idea why other vloggers bypass this place. I've not seen one other channel do it and they're missing out. It's a gem and definitely higher than King Power. I spend at least four hours up top every time I arrive in Bangkok. Cheers Pat.
Jaroen (Global Travel Mate) went a couple of months ago, it's probably bypassed due to the reasons l mentioned at the beginning.....Mahanakhon trendier and new but not so great views
I like the Baiyoke. The view from my balcony directly through the Baiyoke is breathtaking - especially at sunset. Your video goes more into the history of the tower and I learned some things I didn't know before. Good to know. Soon i will release my video about the Baiyoke too but as I told you the editing for the 360 view needs long because I've tried something new. Well done video Pat. Luckily I was alone in the elevator because I go there really early. 😅
Can't wait for yours Frank, how about those lightning strikes that you took that night? If I'd have remembered I might have asked you to use them but save it for your video! Your view will be a lot clearer as it was earlier in the day and the smog wasn't so bad like now, I thought about stabilising my complete rotations night and day but was just being overly fussy, best show them as they were, that revolving platform does wobble a bit! Cheers mate!
i got a couple cheap nights here using points and have a couple of things to tell its a tourist attaction after sun goes down with bus loads of chinese tourists queueing at reception to go up to revolving deck. staying on floor 53 turned into a nightmare as no lifts could stop as they were maxed out no idea wher of if here was stairs and worst of all i got sick with all the coughing and sneezing over everyone i won`t stay there but it waas a good experience plue point the cakeshops delicious cakes were discoued hugely and was a fridge filler for later , and you can hit a few golf balls while having cocktails on a driving range way up in the sky
I went up the last time I was in Bangkok, views were absolutely exceptional in spite of the jelly legs. It's interesting to now learn that the place is haunted, as I really didn't like the vibe in there at the time, found it really depressing, almost oppressive and was quite relieved to get out of there and back onto the street. I just put it down to the place looking quite dated, very 90's. Maybe it's absolute bollocks and just coincidental but it makes me think. Despite this I'd still go back for those views 👌
I lived in pratunam when it was being built in the 90s Stayed in the hotel a few times , rooms a grim , hotel is well worn out , tje top decks are shire but view is OK by day and pretty good at night , bring binoculars 😍😍☘️😍☘️😍☘️😍☘️
Booked the buffet at the restaurant next Sunday. Decided to do this after watching your video and this after 15 years travelling to Bangkok. Never liked heights but the smoking room will definitely be a good start.
It's definitely a good place to go. I've been there with my thai family in 2018 for dinner and night views on the revolving Skywalk. Would recommend it to anyone ! Also, I've had dinner at the " Lebua state tower," consisting of a classical music quartet playing ,Beethoven ,Chopin Brahms violin, and piano pieces. Then we went up to the sky patio door bar to soak in some live jazz! Expensive but still cheaper than Manhattan bro...believe me I've done " windows on the world " before they knocked down the world trade. It was in the north tower 106th floor ! Miss the old towers bro 😪 anyway Byoke and Labua remind me of Manhattan. Maybe Ta and I will treat you guys to Labua "classical dinner and live jazz " evening one day 🤔 ... keep up the good work, great historical videos, and good looking out for us yanks across the pond... Cheers bro! Oh, and by the way, our profile picture you see was that evening at Labua state tower 52 ND floor "Mozu restaurant," and there are several restaurants from 52 to 64 floor with different themes !
Just came back from BKK. Had breakfast at the Baiyoke Tower for 450 bahts person, with great views to boot. Came by using the Airport Rail to Ratchaprarop, so spared the hassle of walking too much. Well worth the trip!@@BangkokPat
I really injoy your channel and learn so much about Bangkok and its history watching your channel !! I was planning on buying a condo in Bangkok to retire . But after seeing the US intelligence report that China is planning on attacking 5 countries simultaneously before 2025 and Thailand is 1 of the 5 countries !! My question is ?? Can Thailand defend its self and its citizens???
Me and Nueng the lady with me last Saturday was at Bayoke for Sunday buffet. This was sooooo amazing good i made a whole video from our visit there. We took the tour and ate 5 star food. The video are out soon Pat. Lets hope it will be as good as the one you make😊. Thank you again for make this super informative videos.
Just had 1 week in Bsngkok, wandering around Warachak, an Indian temple. My cheap room since 1990 is still there, 75 bt. I said hello to all the ' cats ' on my travels. I couldn't live there, it's the heat, Mt Pat, relentless.
I visited this just yesterday. It wasn't quite as smoggy as the prior few days but I went up just before sunset and it got dark before I was ready for it so I'll have to go back on a nice sunny day to continue picking out landmarks. Did you find the on/off switch for the rotating platform? It wasn't on yesterday. Interesting location as you mentioned with tons of similar Indian restaurants.I was also excited when I realized how close I was to the Stay Cafe. Didn't go this time though. Fun video Pat!
Often they give the rotation a break for 10-15 minutes, but if it's off all the time them maybe they have issues! I've heard that many of those restaurants aren't so great due to a lack of customers in a very crowded street!
Last week it was very cool to meet Bangkok Pat down Song Wat Rd in Chinatown, just by chance. Next time I shall invite him for a beer and hopefully hear some more interesting details about our great city.
As usual, a thought-provoking video. Thank you, Pat. I feel Bayoke Tower and KingPower Mahanakorn are two very different experiences. The latter, way more sophisticated. I enjoyed both. But at Mahanakorn we have gorgeous river views, no glasses to obscure our sightseeing, live music sometimes, and some of the best cocktails in town. Cheers!
I agree its the best view. I have stayed there many times, its great to be able to go up there at any time and breakfast on the 76th floor. When it opened the hotel was under-used for years and a large part of it was mothballed, but the huge Chinese influx a few years ago filled it up. It was a bit too crowded at its peak and often long waits for lifts. I like the area as it is completely non-trendy as is the tower itself.
Probably a great place to start my holiday to get a feel of Bangkok, loved your night shots with the music. I think you already know how much I love the music that you mix into the video's.
Another awesome video, Pat, thanks! I,ve been only once to bkk and what instantly caught my attention were the bad smells in the streets: sewege, decomposed food, wet seeds, it,s a myriad of a nasal exploration. Maybe you could find an original way to cover it?
The last time I visited the tower the admission price allowed you to eat as much fruit as you wanted. Durian included. Maybe this was just a special promotion
Hi mate, hope you're getting over your trip, followed it via your fun videos. Now the cost includes a free 20min massage and drink! 2yrs ago it included any drink in the Rooftop bar but maybe people took the piss and sat there for too long!
@@BangkokPat I couldn't believe how much you could have. I changed my plans so only spent an afternoon in Bangkok next trip I hope to stay for a week at least
I just came back from the King Power Building and it was alright. Didn't know about this option. Thx for sharing, will check it out. How long does it take for one full rotation?
In the mid 90s according to my well connected lawyer Bayoke Sky Tower started to lean while under construction. It was rectified by pouring concrete underground on the opposite side of the lean. True or not who knows.
Hi Khun Pat, thanks for this outstanding video incl. Construction Footages .. Been to Khrung Thep several times, but never been to this hotel perhaps will try the All You Eat Buffet next time ... Years ago I tried this kind of buffet at one of OISHII Outlet (??) ... And recently I watched in one of Indonesian prominent TV, telling that Bangkok Pollution rate is reaching a dangerous point already 🤔.. Well, take care then lads...... Cheers.
Currently back in my homeland England for a few weeks. I do have to say the air is so good here compared to Bangkok. I'm breathing properly again. But of course I miss Bangkok. Good video
You will have to go again on a clearer day. I almost saw my condo but too far and the smog was thick. I couldn't even see the very obvious G-Tower on Ratchada Rd. I can see the Baiyoke building from our balcony, complete with all the different LED displays at the top each night.
One day soon, we can expect those clever guys at the phone companies to come up with a 'polution filter" that clears smog out of your photos. In Bkk, just like Chinese cities i notice, the apocalyptic views of the sun trying to pierce the haze give way at dusk to the much holier night-time vistas where the lights and movement send a different message, one of vibrancy and human ingenuity.
Nice video! Ca 1980 I was in Penang. There were posters everywhere in town about a revolting (sic) restaurant. I had a look, and it was, of course, a revolving restaurant. Lucky for me they had fired rice (sic) on the menu.
Definitely a place i re-visit everytime i am in Bangkok again. Remember when I first saw it in 1998, i was just awed. and before, when i was student there in 1988, it was Baiyoke 1 that was tallest building in Thailand. but the revolving top in Baiyoke 2 is really utterly great, maybe also bec. it is outdoors so high up. clearly cooler air than downstairs in Rajaprarop Road
I, almost, forgot to Like & Comment. It’s about time you start adding that to the end of the video. Unless you do, and I don’t see it. Another great video.
@@BangkokPat if my like and comment helps grow your channel. Perfect. Although, if you get too popular, it will be harder to book trips with you when I return! So, don’t get too carried away. Actually, there’s a lot of channels I’d like you to overtake with subscribers. So I’m doing my small effort to help you along the way.
Nice one, Pat. You always make such professional and interesting videos. A friend and I visited this tower at night in 2019 on my last visit to Thailand, and we were truly impressed. We are returning at the end of this month for a three-week tour of the country to try to establish a retirement location for me. Your videos are a great source of ideas and practical solutions. Thanks for all your hard work - it's truly worth it!
7:12 is not only the Chalerm Maha Nakhorn Expressway but its junction with the Srirat Expressway. In one frame I think I saw the Centara Grand hotel. That reminds me their sky bar is much more laid back than the busi Scirocco. Have you ever thought about a comparisons of sky bars in Bangkok?
Hey pat I have stayed here a few times and it really wasn't that expensive. I've just checked and its only $88.00 per night. I don't mind walking through the Indra square - the morning markets on the Soi are good - the market itself is super hot irrespective of the time of the year. I use to go to platinum mall for technology but since its demise I tend to go to fortune town.
Definitely agree that Baiyoke Sky Tower is going to be around for a very long time... but you have to admit that it isn't exactly an example of "great architecture". Some really nice views. The famous buffet is eclectic, bordering on the weird. Really great video again!
Thanks again BKK Pat for another interesting aspect of Bangkok, great stuff, I have another place I need to checkout on my next visit, thanks for the awesome tour of BKK a few months ago :-)
Just stayed here a few weeks ago. Worth it for a single trip, but probably wouldn’t a second time. Difficult location to get in and out of due to the market traffic. Rooms are beginning to show their age, but for less that $100 US for a junior suite I’m not complaining. Taking breakfast buffet on the 83? floor terrace was a great way to start the day, especially considering it was included in the price. The hazy pollution definitely took away from the views but was still no doubt worth a visit. And the prices are very reasonable at the cocktail bar, especially compared to the $35 cocktails at Distil/Skybar. I should also mention that the hotel staff was absolutely lovely, professional and very helpful.
Was there last Saturday. Went before 5 pm, booked the Sky Buffet package and went up the elevator and went to the 77th floor first. There were tour groups but it was not crowded. At 5.00 pm, had the buffet which was value for money. The staff were friendly and there was a Guest Relationship officer who asked me about the overall dining experience. After the food, walked up till the 84th floor for the view. Fantastic. Went down to the ice cold smoking room on the 83th floor and it was big and spacious. Will be back early March and done my reservation for the buffet package.
Cool topic. This tower has 1990's BKK character. I almost got my arm sliced off at this tower. Back in 2008, I put my arm through the mesh fence to get a direct downward view with my Cybershot. Turns out this was not a good idea because the platform turns AND they have these sharp stainless steel signs that are stationary on the outside. So my arm got in between the platform and the sign. In turns slow enough that my arm just kinda bounced out of the way. But it probably could have been worse if I was unlucky. I really like that tower. Im surprised that it hasn't got a major facelift. Anything that is surviving from this era deserves a renovation.
