-- About this video --
In today’s episode, we’re heading to Mt Cook Airport for one of the most unique things to do in New Zealand, land on a glacier in a ski plane in Mt Cook!
We join Inflight Experiences for their Mt Cook ski plane flight which includes about a 30-minute scenic flight over the Aoraki Mt Cook National Park and then landing on the Tasman Glacier. There’s nowhere else in New Zealand (and not that many places in the world) that you can experience landing on a glacier in a ski plane.
This scenic flight in New Zealand is in a small 8-seater ski plane flying to the upper snow fields of the Tasman Glacier in Mt Cook. We then get to enjoy spending about 20 minutes on the Tasman Glacier in the snow surrounded by epic alpine scenery before jumping back on this New Zealand ski plane flight back to Mt Cook Airport.
So what do you think of this ski plane New Zealand flight? Would you add the Mt Cook skiplane to your Mt Cook travel itinerary? LUK in the comments!

Thanks for the vid. I did this maybe 12 years ago! A great day. Same old Porter too I suspect. You mix up the photography a bit at the start - different aircraft and some shots of flying towards and away from the glacier. Not a biggie but I noticed lol. These flights are not cheap but as part of a visit, they're right up there on the list. A Milford Sound cruise is a given but they're only like $60 in 2018.

Haha great eye for detail James, we sometimes have to mix a few shot to give a bit of a better feel for the video but never anything major, this was just the plane that took off before ours. We agree, this is totally a must do in NZ though, what a scenery!

That day is so vivid in my mind :-) ... I was back there just weeks ago and remembered that flight.

That terrain is so amazing that simply going for a walk is essential I reckon! There is a great short walk from the car park and camp ground. Then there is one that follows the western side of the glacier lake to a hut and can lead to hiking up higher. NZ has over 1000 Department of Conservation (DOC) huts for hikers which are free or very cheap to stay in. I've only just started exploring them. Waking above the clouds after a hike is pretty special.

Great advice! that's the awesome thing about New Zealand, there's never "nothing" to do because you can always rely on a walk. The DOC do a good job on keeping the trails easy to follow too, which is pretty essential for tourists and first-time backpackers!

Which company was this particular flight operated by? Was that InfliteExperiences? I asked them about the GoPro mount (your video clearly had a camera mounted on the wing) and they said they didn't do that, so must be a different company?

Heya, we had a few paperwork and authorizations to get this done, the tour itself is available to tourists, but there are filming restrictions that applies. As a professional media company, we did get extra access. The tour is great nonetheless, no need to stick a Gopro outside to get a fun experience haha!

@@NZPocketGuide by filming restriction do you mean by the company or the national park ? The national park filming paperwork is only required for commercial use.

Would you recommend the helicopter ride or ski plane??

Tough question! If you do the heli-ride, make it a glacier hike -> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OztBDB60lQ4.html otherwise do the ski plane ;)
