IS THIS MY REWARD FOR DEFENDING GOD'S CHURCH??
I RENOUNCE GOD .... I SHALL RISE FROM MY OWN DEATH...TO AVENGE HERS WITH ALL THE POWER OF DARKNESS . Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder and Anthony Hopkins star in director Francis Ford Coppola's visually stunning, passionately seductive version of the classic Dracula legend. In BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA, Coppola returns to the original source of the Dracula myth, and from that gothic romance, he creates a modern masterpiece. Gary Oldman's metamorphosis as Dracula who grows from old to young, from man to beast is nothing short of amazing. Winona Ryder brings equal intensity to the role of a young beauty who becomes the object of Dracula's devastating desire. Anthony Hopkins co-stars as the famed doctor who dares to believe in Dracula, and then dares to confront him. Opulent, dazzling and utterly irresistible, this is Dracula as you've never seen him. And once you've seen BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA, you'llnever forget it. (Original Title - Bram Stoker's Dracula) © 1992 Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

One of the most striking and simply well done openings ever! I really love the tension and the pain that Dracula felt. Gary Oldman is a hell of a actor. The entire movie was good but this,a great intro. Well done!!

Also, that was one of the most passionate kissing scene I have ever seen in a film. Gary and Winona sold me on a romance that led to the creation of Dracula with 1 minute of screen time.

@alexbarron3831
@alexbarron3831 Месяц назад
my theory is that the priest is probably an ancestor of the Van Helsing family. Which actually is good for their backstory because him and Dracula have been Arch enemies in many stories. So it makes sense that their families have also been rivals for centuries and this scene is where it all started.

Gary Oldman doesn't get enough credit for incredible work in the 90's. As varied and strong a set of performances as there are in cinema. Lee Harvey Oswald in JFK, Dracula here, Drexl Spivey in True Romance, Stansfield in Leon: The Professional, Associate Milton Glenn in Murder in the First, Zorg in The Fifth Element and the intriguing character of Mason Verger in Hannibal in 2000. Guy's been killing it for decades. Also love him as Floyd Banner in Lawless, and of course Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour.

@aidanrogers4438

The thing I like most about this incarnation of Dracula is that it didn’t try to force him to be relatable but presented him in a very tragic way first. His wife had been condemned by the God and religion he had just defended, he’d lost everything and so rather than making a deal with the devil (as is hinted in the original book), him denouncing god makes his story more tragic and at least empathetic, being told his wife is damned for all time. In fact this has probably gone onto influence many other incarnations, with Mina as his wife’s reincarnation and is often thought as “cannon” in the Dracula lore.

when i saw this for the first time, i wondered how her body could've survived intact after falling from such a height. if you had to go through clouds before impact, even an ocean underneath probably won't help. but this movie was more theater. it forced you to abandon notions of what's likely, and i think that makes it more entertaining than today's films.

Interesting facts: - the background of the battle is the puppet play, which you see later in the film, when Dracula and Mina visit the 'Cinematograph' - the impalement after the battle really happend in the 1460s when Dracula impale nearly 30,000 muslim people, after the turks tried to invade Rumania - Anthony Hopkins plays the priest - the 'Borgo Pass' where Jonathan enters Draculas carriage is called 'Tihuța-Pass' today -the Carfax Abbey where Dracula let put his boxes is in reality the Whitby Abbey in Yorkshire - the ship 'Demeter' base in the schooner 'Dimitry' that was found crewless and sank in 1885 -After the character R.M. Renfield is named 'Renfield Syndrome', the desire to drink human blood -the little girl, that Vampire Lucy carry to the tomb, was really scared in this scene by her make up and it took more than one take to shoot it - cause she refused to get back into Sadie Frosts (Lucy) arms -Bram Stoker never saw the places in Europe in person. An advising friend, as well as the study of maps, stories and even timetables, made his narrative so detailed

*Resurrections* “A Candle for the Dead” Death is a partition of the mind. It’s a permanent amnesia in one’s rebirth where only the physics of the soul remains in its momentum. Immortality is to be reborn with an awakening of one’s prior existence. Personally, I myself have no prior recollection of my identity, so either I am a new soul or an old one that died, but possibly the physics of my soul was close to conquering its mortality. Most people are mortal. The only way to achieve immortality is through the truth. Once one is reborn in awakening it is very hard to destroy them. It grows in their brain over time. You’ll most likely come back anyway. You may as well try and remember who you are. Good luck! “I’m melting!”-The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
