Freikorps were irregular German and other European military volunteer units, or paramilitary, that existed from the 18th to the early 20th centuries.
In the aftermath of World War I and during the German Revolution of 1918-19, Freikorps consisting largely of World War I veterans were raised as paramilitary militias. They were ostensibly mustered to fight on behalf of the government against the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic backed German communists attempting to overthrow the Weimar Republic. However, many Freikorps also largely despised the Republic and were involved in assassinations of its supporters.

@@breakfaust they did not “try to become the army” that’s as foolish as saying as they became the army. All the Freikorps wanted to do was maintain the SPD’s hold over the Weimar Republic partly because they didn’t want to see Germany torn apart by Bolshevism but also because socialists within the paramilitary organization, particularly the Strassers and Ernst Rohm, believed that the SPD party would be the most viable route towards Socialism. Of course both the Strassers and Rohm would later become disillusioned with the SPD and would go on to join the NSDAP but that’s neither here or there. But the issue of your statement being “the workers stopped them” is fraudulent on two accounts. One plenty of them *were* the workers, they just weren’t Bolshevik workers. Two when they did fight Bolshevik workers, particularly the Spartacists and the Bavarian Soviet Socialist Republic, they came out on top by quashing the said Bolshevik counterrevolutions to the SPD Revolution. They were brutal though.

@@breakfaust I think you’re confusing the Freikorps with the NSDAP’s SA which did indeed try to become the German Army before the night of the long knives.

By definition a war crime must happen during a war - that is to say a state of war between two states. These divisions existed after the war. @@PanzertruppenLeopard_1

They need to come back but just not commit any war crimes and if they come back, they need to go someplace like Russia, North Korea, or China all those places are communistic so they are really going to have a fun time in those countries

@@PanzertruppenLeopard_1war crimes only matter when a nation loses to another like Germany and Japan losing to America. Everyone cries about what the axis did but crickets about the allied crimes like the rapes, looting, the executions of POWs, i mean still to this day the Americans and russians never paid 1 penny for any of their war crimes oh wait they are the winners so what they done is swept under the rug and pretend it never happened.

because of a fracture of belief in the trenches. It didn't have anything to do with the nazis at this point. People in the trenches sometimes turned away from conventional religion, there was even a large increase in atheism because the war was so brutal. They thought it might keep them safe in battle so they painted it on their helmet, it's likely why the nazis used the swastika as well Hitler having been a corporal in the war.
