Today I'll be discussing how I downsized my kpop collection. I decided last year to officially downsize. Here was my thought process behind who I decided to give up!

some people need to keep in mind that just because you dont collect a groups physical albums does NOT mean that you no longer support them! its really expensive to collect kpop albums and its okay to only support some groups by streaming digitally!!

honestly its your collection and i find it stupid that people are judging you and getting mad at you for dropping a group. i also think that even if you were to ever unstan any group no one has the right to get mad at you. its literally your opinion and your preference. the rate at which i pick up and drop collections is ridiculous and i almost have no thought process on it so seeing this decision of yours being so well thought out is really inspiring :))

Also it’s okay to loose interest in a group. It’s okay to no longer like their music or just you moved on to stanning other groups harder... as long as there’s no hate and you can sell it to some one who is a big fan and it will make them happy instead. I hate the disclaimer of “just because I’m downsizing doesn’t mean I’m unstanning” but like it’s okay to move on from groups if you’re no longer interested! I’ve been into Kpop for 10 years and I have not stanned the same groups for a whole decade 😂 it ebbs and flows, new groups come out I re-discover old groups. Edit: would love to see you make a video about the stigma of leaving a fandom or just loosing interest in a group. It’s like signing a blood contract at this point becoming a fan of a group!

This is just my opinion, and most of you guys might disagree. If you struggle to remember the groups you collect... if you need to look at a list, or look at your selves to remember all of them... you are 100% collecting way too many groups. Some of those collections are clearly not meaningful enough to you if you forget about them. This is the system I PERSONALLY use to control my personal kpop collection. This is NOT meant to be hateful or to judge. Everyone is allowed to decide how they want to collect, and I just wanted to share mine ^^

I agree. I am a album collector as well and ya... I am more into 1st and 2nd Gen. But in my City we only have the basic Kpop Albums and so I bought this Kpop Albums but it still didn't make me happy. So now I give the albums that I don't need to friend as BDay/Christmas gifts. Now I only collect TVXQ, H.O.T, Loona & focus on them as main point. Btw Stan TVXQ 😘

Yes! Like I’m not a collector (although I am planning to collect all of bts’ albums) but I always feel like, people stan this one group, buy an album and make an unboxing of it and they’re like “WoW I sHouLd cOlLeCt tWiCe sInCe I hAvE tHeSe pHotOcArDs oF mY bIaS”. And since they collect like 10 other groups they get everything mixed up which is stressful to watch and stressful to be in that forgetful position TT

I mean, I don't remember all the groups because most of my collecting doesn't happen based on a specific group... I'm a huge multi, so majority of my collection is just random albums from random groups, I try to have a little bit of every group I listen to a lot. So basically I don't collect because of a group, I collect for the music and then focus on my ults a bit more. I don't even know some of the groups whose albums I have that well, I just liked their music enough to buy their album and I see nothing wrong with that like you seem to imply.

unstanning is also a valid reason to stop collecting. i don't like the narative of stoping a collection doesn't mean we don't like a group anymore. it makes unstanning seem like a bad thing. sometimes we stop collecting bc we cant support the things these idols do and thats okay.

Preach what you said at the end! Buying albums & merch is an extra of stanning a group. It was really nice to hear how you chose what groups to keep from your shelf. I think putting it somewhere separate and thinking about it is a really good idea. Also, I think people don't really understand how much albums & shipping cost and that these types of hauls are different from makeup hauls or stationery hauls. Kpop companies aren't going to sponsor RU-vidrs and send them a set of a group's albums like beauty companies do. lol

The amount of POBs and merch in general increasing honestly puts way more pressure on what needs to be prioritized. Like there’s plenty of groups I’d love to have but it’s hard when the funds can go to completing an ult group even more instead. But anyway sorry you have to deal with people upset with you for managing what make you happy :/

I definitely suggest to everyone to be picky on who you collect. I bought some albums from groups I don’t plan on collecting anymore and while I don’t fully regret it I’m glad I know not to buy anymore even though I enjoy that group’s music. Right now I plan on collecting (photocards) Twice (my Ult), Treasure, Loona, & Purple Kiss. I’ll also be collecting some SVT albums, Dreamcatcher Limited Edition versions only, and some other groups albums only.

You inspired me to collect groups but as a teenager with a part time job, it's really hard to decide which groups to not collect. Like I have all of TREASURE's albums except their newest album because it just got so expensive I had to stop collecting them. Same with MCND. They pump out albums so fast I don't have time between collecting all versions of TXT, ASTRO, all of the NCT subunits and possibly ENHYPEN later since I have both versions of their debut. I also just started my OT5 TXT photocard collection so it's a lot for a broke 16 year old. It's a hard decision but I'm glad you were able to overcome it! And battling the hate comments. Proud of you~~

I literally needed this video so much. I’ve been feeling so much pressure to keep collecting groups and at one point it was so bad I considered just getting out of Kpop completely which is SO SAD. It’s something that brings me so much joy. Thankfully I didn’t, but I’ve definitely decided to significantly downsize and just collect group my the few groups that I really love more thoroughly. All that to say thank you for this! it’s nice to know that other people feel the same way 💕

I'm so glad you were able to sit down and just talk about this! Thank you so much for reiterating the Marie Kondo mindset too, I completely forgot that was a thing. Just before watching your video I was going through albums to sell and a few of them I was hesitant on bc I spent so much effort to obtain them. The thought of selling them at a lower price than I bought (plus all the time, energy, and stress that came with it) I just couldn't justify letting them go. But simply put...they no longer bring me joy LOL..... Not that I don't love those groups anymore, but looking at the albums on my shelves and remembering the process is just draining sometimes and I don't think that's very healthy haha... Anywho, thank you so much for this. I think I can finally let them go now. :)

You're the last youtuber I watch that collected VIXX but I knew it was going to happen eventually since it's been a while since their last comeback (are you still going to collect Hyuk if he releases any more solo stuff though?). Collecting has been harder these days, which is funny because now there is so much variety in terms of sites to buy from (compared to earlier times), especially if you collect both albums and photocards rather than just one or the other. Outside of my top five I'm very particular about the way I collect so it is nice to see people who put thought into what they collect rather than just buying whatever.

More than anything, I wish kpop RU-vidrs stop buying albums that they were actually were not interested to buy in the first place. If you don't want to buy an album, don't buy it, even if you end up without content for months. Is okay! I've seen some RU-vidrs getting into debts just to buy for the hype of an album and get some views. Like don't do it, even more when in the video it SHOWS that you didn't want it in the first place. Sorry for my rant.

Great video!! I'm also thinking about downsizing these days and also I would like to see kpop unboxers NOT buying every comeback, or kpop reactors NOT reacting to every comeback, idk its just off putting when you can tell someone clearly doesn't like a song but continues to " react " to it even though after recording they probably never listen to it again. I wish people wouldn't pressure other people to do things its ok to say no.

Wow...the way people have deep feelings about what others do with their own belongings...blows my mind. I love a lot of groups, but rarely buy albums because I don't want to overcrowd my space. Photobooks have become secondary for me now, which is strange because that was the thing I loved. Even for my top groups, I only buy 1 version.

I haven't downsized my collection yet but I plan to when I'm home for summer break, for me it's mostly for space reasons but I also just only really want to have albums from my top groups moving forward. I still love the groups whose albums I'm going to be selling I just don't feel the need to have their albums anymore. Also people have no right to get upset with you for downsizing, it's your collection not theirs and you can do whatever you want with it

Honestly, I'm debating getting rid of a few of my photocard collections for the "not bringing joy" reason. I'm sure that for anyone whose seen my comments here that it's not a surprise that it's my Cravity collections. Between there being so many cards and the messed up trading game, I'm not having fun anymore. Also like, I have a "you send first" type of trade that I haven't heard about yet and because of my history with Cravity trading, I'm so worried that I've been scammed. If so, it's the third time. I have literally never been scammed before until I joined this fandom. I'm not having a good time.

I haven't done any downsizing at this point, but I have been limiting my kpop purchasing since last year. I have been cutting back on number of versions for a lot of groups and other groups I've been getting more strict on physically buying an album. Kpop has been getting more expensive, and I didn't want to spend so much on kpop. I've found a few other hobbies that I want to occasionally splurge on, and I've been also focusing more on saving for the future lately.

I don’t get why others get pressed over people’s collections, physically collecting albums can be an expensive hobby but they tend to also forget about how much space they take up. I was thinking of selling my older kpop albums for the space reason, it’s not that I hate these groups but they just collect dust in my room it would be better to sell them to someone who actually wants it. Honestly once I started putting limits on who’s albums I wanted I became so much happier I’m content with buying only from my 2 ult groups

i def downsized as well in terms of buying albums but i'll buy a photocard here and there of my bias in that group even though i don't vibe with their music/fandom ( yes fandoms can ruin your experience!!). the shipping prices are insane now and have me thinking should i wait or should i buy it just in case it goes out of stock ( looking at u sm )

Yup, RoPun.. ;__; I recall Carolyn saying she wasn't enjoying their newest music (Juicy definitely isn't my fave either tbh). Other reason probably could be that she wasn't getting progress on her Yeonhee collection... many people don't collect RCPC especially outside Korea/Japan so finding trades isn't that easy + when you have a looot of other groups to collect and RP isn't a priority I can understand one can loose their motivation. For me who only ults them, SNSD (an inactive group atm) and collects Dreamcatcher as a third it's much easier. I still do find it sad since there really isn't any youtuber I can think of who collects Rocket Punch.. /:

Considering the size of your collection, I would recommend ripping the CD into either mp3 or FLAC files and download them to ur phone or keep them in an external hard drive.

I’m in the process of downsizing as well! I’m trying to narrow it down to about 10 groups so that I can collect all versions of albums instead of one version from way too many groups. It’s hard to decide who to cut out though...

I'm not downsizing but I have pretty clear rules for myself with album versions😅 I only collect all versions for my main ults (Nu'est and Dreamcatcher since they're the only ones of my main ults who do many versions nowadays), other groups I just get one version of an album and only if I actually like the music on the album too (other ults are an exception). And for Nct (also one of my ults but not that high on my ult list) I have a special rule to collect one version of each album except for the yearbook type ones (Empathy and Resonance) because I really love it when they do stuff with all the units together and want more stuff with all of them😂 I collect really slowly so my rules work for me pretty well😂 I also buy a lot of albums used since they're way cheaper and I don't collect photocards much anyways

I did something like this as well last year I used to collect BTS and I mean like their albums to their DVDs and summer packages and so on and I was thinking about it for ages and in August I made my mind up and sold it all and luckily there’s local Army in my small town and I’m happy that those things got to go somewhere that someone actually wanted them 😊

Not 100% related to the video topic but for Ateez I'm happy to say that their regular album pcs this time are very pretty ^^ I also struggle with my collections, I don't even think its that many people - but some are very expensive to collect (Taeyong, Seonghwa), other groups release a lot of merch & extra stuff (NCT, Stray Kids), some groups have 10 regular pcs per album... All of this makes it so hard to keep up with the stuff.

I currently collect 9 groups right now and I might add a 10th by the end of the year just to even it out LOL (probably purple kiss). but I want to collect only one member per group (for NCT 1 member per unit), right now for a few groups I collect a couple members and it can be a lot.

I collect consistency 2 boygroups and 2 girlgroups and a couple of solo artisits including non idols. For the others i buy only if i really like the songs and the albums concepts.

Maybe that's why I have low numbers on my channel because I don't upload many things often enough because I only buy what I really want and don't purchase groups to have content and even saying that I still need to downsize because I usually buy my few groups I collect more albums and merchandise for them so I really need to sell. I still need WayV albums this was the first time I purchase after the comeback and I am fine with that.

I feel you... I used to collect every member out of all my ult groups like EXO, Ateez a.s.o. plus every single one of their albums... One day i wanted to buy a super rare non-album-pc for chen (ult bias) but i just couldn't bc i was broke... I decided to focus on him & his complete collection, older & rare stuff in the first place... I now only buy the albums & pcs i really really like & this way i'm able to slowly complete chens non-album-collection which is just so much fun... Best thing i've ever done :)

Really not the topic, but I've been waiting for signed albums from Mnet and Makestar since last year, I'm sure many people are still waiting, has anyone has figured how to contact Mnet because it's ridiculous that they can't ship not even with private companies. I know with Makestar is possible but I'm worried about my signed ones from Mnet.

It's sad to see people mad at you because you're downsizing. It's your collection you shouldn't have to explain yourself 😭 I'm currently downsizing (well more like trying to). It's hard for me to let go of the album so I just try to sell/trade the photocards I don't like. Nothing against the members/groups I'm selling of. I guess we all have our preferences when it comes to photocards and bigger items!

I guess it's more than "listening to their songs", there must be a connection with the group. I feel that "apart" with Celine Dion, for example. Although I like most of her songs, I don't feel the need to collect her CDs. Always wonder why, but I guess it's just a matter of priority. I must feel something special for that group/singer. There's nothing wrong in downsizing a collection or even don't like K-Pop anymore. I collect mainly NCT, but I know that, some day, I'll sell or give away their albums.

i’m a bit late to this video lol but i guess you’re no longer collecting/ulting after school, i’ve been wondering about it for the longest time since you rarely mention them and even when they do things you don’t usually notice or talk about it even if it’s raina, it’s understandable though, specially when it comes to these older groups that haven’t done much at all, or when they do it’s all over the place bc they’ve all gone different ways, it’s normal to lose interest in them, although it is still pretty sad when you think about how much you cared for and loved them in the past 💔 i would love to see how your shelves are looking now! specially after you move, where hopefully you’ll be able to keep all of them in one room 🥰

Seriously, people are stupid. It is her collection. Period. Hell I watched her for years and at no point I watched her for collection as we seriously have 2% in common when it comes to groups. I was amazed when she bought a GOT7 album (my ult) as I know she not into them and guess what, that is fine. I find her point of view interesting and she has tried to give us content that is somewhat universal so you don't have to be bored when she talking. Seriously bought Wonho first album because her influence and to support him but decided not really continuing it. Should she tell me to go away?

downsizing can be different for everybody! there's no set definition to downsizing a kpop collection... and just because u can't see everything they have downsized doesn't mean they aren't/havent.

Tbh I collected like 40 groups at one point in my life so yeah. Also quite a few of the groups I named don’t have very frequent album releases. For example, APINK hasn’t had a physical comeback since January 2020, INFINITE hasn’t had a full group release since 2018 (and likely won’t ever have one again). BTS doesn’t release things (at least albums) as frequently as they used to, and for SJ I only buy one subunit now (D&E) but the full group releases like one album a year. SHINee were on military hiatus for a long time until just last week, etc. so yes, it seems like I still collect a lot. But putting it into perspective I collect a lot less active groups now. I hope this helped explain this a bit!
