What could be a better video topic than this? I love getting a run down of amazing books! My recommendations: 1) ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’ (it’s an easy young adult thriller with an engaging mystery - gives ‘Serial’ podcast vibes), 2) ‘Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil’ (super fun eccentric characters and location (Savannah, GA) with a murder mystery throw in. It’s got all the fun southern vibes and rich people drama. It reads like a fictional novel except that it’s based on a true story! And the movie is awesome too.)

For those in a reading slump, I always tend to recommend fun and light books, like you just said. Right now I am reading The Husbands by Holly Gramazio, and it's so fun! It's basically the story of a young woman coming home from a night out to find a man in her house. The man acts like he knows her and wears a ring. She quickly realizes he is her husband. At some point he climbs up in the attic. Another man comes down. Truns out that every time her husband gets in the attic, another husband reappears, along with another life (her phone content changes, her physical appearance changes slightly, so does her apartment). Can't wait to see how this story will unfold. Last week I finished reading My Husband after you recommended it in your last video and I LOVED IT!!!!! A strong 5 stars! And like you said, there were episodes in which I kinda recognized myself LOL. And the twist at the end, just scrumptious! 🍒

The whole way through I was thinking of books I thought Alexandra might enjoy, so I thought I'd leave them here incase anyone wants some more recs. Side note: I read a lot of different genres so I'm going to choose one book from a few different genres. Light fantasy, for someone looking to get into fantasy but not too extravagant or hard to follow, I would recommend The Raven Boys by Maggie Steifvater. In short a book about a group of teenagers who are trying to find this long lost welsh king called Glendower. The twist? Our main character blue is destined to cause her true love to dies, and her true love is a member of this friend group.... For some fantasy that's a little more fantastical but still a good one for beginners, Divine Rivals. Technically a fantasy romance but it still counts. This is set in a sort of world war one like war where we follow Iris Winnow as she becomes a war correspondant. I won't spoil any more than that, but trust me, it's good. For literary fiction, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. This is a mixture of romance, thriller and mystery but since I didn't want to put it in all three it's going here. This follows our MC (Sorry I forgot her name) as she is asked to do an exclusive interview with a legendary actress Evelyn Hugo. As we get deeper and deeper in, darker parts of Evelyn's career are explored and there's a plot twist that will shock you and change your whole opinion on this book. For a YA thriller I'm going to go with One of us is lying. I know there are some people who hate this book, but I think it's good enough to at least get you into the habit of reading. It basically follows five students who walk into detention but only four walk out alive. We follow the aftermath and the lives of the four students as they slowly start to investigate for themselves and form friendships with each other. Secrets get revealed all over the place and I don't think you can put this down once you've started. For an adult thriller I'm going to go with Battle Royale by Koshun Takami. This is usually regarded as YA/ New Adult but I think some of the themes are really triggering. In short this is a book which is slightly similar to The Hunger Games. 42 students from a Japanese school are placed on an island to fight each other to the death. The interesting thing about this book, is that while there is a main character, we actually get a perspective from most of their classmates. This gives you an insight into every character and you genuinely get to see every death as they happen. It's dark, gory and super twisted. I know this is over 600 pages, but trust me. Read to at least page 50 and you'll be hooked. Lastly an Adult Horror (actually one of the only horror books I've enjoyed) The Passengers by John Marrs. This book is one of the most twisted I've ever read and it's such a unique concept. It's set in a future where most of the population has self driving cars. We follow eight people who get into their cars one morning and their cars get hijacked by someone who tells them they're going to die. The hijacker broadcasts the entire thing online and gets the public to vote on who they want to die, revealing their darkest secrets along the way. This book is twisted and will have you even questioning your own moral standpoint as you ask whether you'd rather save a murderer or someone who's been cheating on their partner for over twenty years and living a double life.... And cause I love giving recs, here's a few extras. LGTBQ+ romance/ fantasy- The house in the cerulean sea by TJ Klune Middle grade - Scarlet and Ivy The lost twin, by Sophie Cleverly YA/LGBTQ+ romace- They both die at the end Hope you all enjoy and happy reading

This video was amazing and I just added most of the books to my list. I would recommend The Selection: It’s a dystopian and a great series that focuses on America and the complications of love and competing for Maxon’s heart. I cried for 2 hours during the 2nd book and 2 days during the 3rd. The Inheritance Games: is also a great series, it’s a mystery following Avery who randomly inherits a millionaires money and follows her and the Hawthorne brothers to figure out why

I really enjoyed reading My Best Friend's Exorcism. It had a lot of references to the 80s that I remembered from back in my school days. To answer the QOTD, the book that got me out of a reading slump was Harmony Black by Craig Schaefer. It's an urban fantasy story and is an offshoot of his Daniel Faust series. I got it as a Kindle First book and quickly followed it up by reading the other available books. I then started reading the Faust series, which if reading in chronological order, should be read first. I don't feel that I lost any enjoyment from reading the Harmony Black books first and actually loved getting to learn more about characters that I really enjoyed. Craig Schaefer has since been an automatic read author for me.

3 books revived my reading slumps at different slump periods i.e. the first being Cat Among Pigeons, Agatha Christie; The Hunting Party, Lucy Foley; & Still Life, Louise Penny. Book #1, it's Agatha Christie - 'nuff said; Book #2 change of pace from what I usually read. I was just sucked in; Book #3, for some reason, it reminded me of the British TV show "Midsomer Murders" even though the backdrop is Canada. So cozy and comfortable to me. Loved it.

Such a great video!! 🍒 to get out of a reading slump I would recommend The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater. It's one of my favorite series. It's so interesting and the characters are amazing.YA, Small town, rich boys, tarot/witchy vibes, unexplainable magic things. (Not explaining it very well but I love it.) First time reading it I didn't know what was going on in the best ways. twists and turns. and the audio book is fantastic!!

I added several to my TBR list, thanks! I know a lot of people really enjoy The Midnight Library, but I personally enjoyed Matt Haig's The Humans so much more. It was funny and made you think about some of the actions/things that may not have a good reason for -- but we do them because that's what we as a species have always done. Or our obsessions from an "outside view". And yet, even with our many flaws, we are loveable. None of this reveals anything about the book, these are just my own personal reflections after reading the book.

🍒 Ooh I personally love a good easy read, like I have recently got into Sarah Adams (romcoms) and absolutely LOVE what I have read so far (When In Rome), I have just started Practice Makes Perfect and I only read half a page and already know it will be another fav (the main character is an introvert with social anxiety and I relate to her so much!!)! So I reccomend her if you like romcoms! Or something like Little Women or Anne Of Green Gables as they were easy and quick reads!

shorter books, short chapters & compelling characters that keep you turning pages are key for slumps. Also picking up something from an author you’ve enjoyed reading before. If these fit into a series, one book easily leads into another. Suggestions for mystery: The Thursday Murder Club, fantasy: Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire, cozy magical realism: anything by Sarah Addison Allen, literary: Alice Hoffman

I always recommend reading a childhood fav if you're in a reading slump. Something you've already read and loved AND that's also a fast read. Here are some fast reads I loved; Amari and the Night Brothers (middlegrade), The Troubled Girls of Dragomir Academy (middlegrade), I Who Have Never Known Men (adult/ lit fic), The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives (adult/lit fic), Every Single Lie (YA), Words in Deep Blue (YA), House of Hollow (YA), In A Dark Dark Wood (Adult)... I could go on but I better stop here aha

🍒 🍒 do you think The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi is a summery book? How about Tress? I’m a seasonal mood reader and I’m wondering where these would fit in

The book that helped me here recently was Mrs. Quinns Rise to Fame. 77 year old women enters in the British Bake Off and it tells about life doing that and a secret from the past. It was so good. I read it in less than 24hrs!!

Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi it is! Also it’s been a while since I’ve been on the receiving end of a QOTD, let’s see… It depends on the preferred genre of the reader of course, but I would recommend Six of Crows. Or The Martian! 🍒

I would like to know if i can read Tress of the Emerald Sea as a standalone. I see it everywhere, but i'm not into Brandy Sandy or reading a 10 book series, so those of you who read it - can i read it as a standalone? Thank youu💖 also Lexi, you always put me in a reading mood with your videos, and I thank you for that.
