I seriously hope, she was cleared for pointe by medical professionals and on the solid base of medical tests. If your body is not yet developed enough going on pointe can seriously harm your feet. She is so gorgeous and clearly talented it would be a shame if all of that went to waste, because somebody put her on pointe to soon.
Unfortunately most doctors know little about ballet and the potential effects pointe can (and for her, very likely will) have on the bones of young dancers. It's primarily up to her teacher, who never should have approved or allowed it in the first place.
@@Izzy-cp8yt that's why I avoided the term doctor. Specialised physiotherapists often know enough and if not have connections to specialised doctors. The school this channel normally posts from looks pretty professional, so I would hope they have a physiotherapist with them or at least work closely together with one in town.
@@pavti1189 still, teachers have the most direct understanding of the art, and no qualified teacher would approve of a child this age going en pointe, and no knowledgeable medical professional would sign off on it either. Professionalism of the location unfortunately means little to nothing about how knowledgeable they are in best practices.
I'm so glad my teacher made us wait until we were 13/14 to get our first pair. Minimized damage and made us a lot stronger in the long run. I've only ever had two small blisters and it's my third year of pointe, it doesn't hurt, and we're progressing very fast.
Yea her feet won't develop properly and I know that because I have been dancing since I was 18 months old and now I am 14 and my feet have fully developed so I can have point shoes I have had them for a year now.
I made my oldest wait until 13 for pointe. As a result she has no damage to her feet while some of her friends who started at 11 have permanent injuries
Curious question since you are a dance teacher. What happens if you have a child who is very small but also at the age range. Maybe a dancer who has had restricted growth or some issue with growth so is very small but is at ten or eleven? I am just curious how kids like that are handled. What does it take for a small child to safely dance en pointe? I love ballet but also support the common sense of protecting little kids from long term bone damage. A child not ready can risk arthritis and other painful foot issues in later life I’m sure, right? I know they have to be strong but also developed enough. Just curious what your criteria are as a teacher.
@@fragilefleur even if you are 13 to 15 which is when you should start to go on point if a teacher believes that a child is too small, she will not let you go on point. When I was starting to do point there was a girl in my class it was a year older than me she was very small she was very petite and her bones were very fragile. She was a fabulous dancer but she wasn't allowed to go on point for another 2 years because of how delicate she was. And she didn't have anything wrong with her she was just a smaller person who was just a little bit more delicate
As a ballet student, I STRONGLY encourage waiting until she's older. No matter how good or strong she is, her bones are not yet fully developed, and putting her in pointe ballet shoes too early could cause a lot of damage to her feet, and she may not be able to dance again. Hope you take this into consideration so you can take precautions. This little ballerina's health and safety SHOULD ALWAYS go FIRST above all else.
As a balerina i think that only the ballet teacher can tldecide if she cand dance on pointe shoes or not And if har teacher thinks she is ready she could wear pointe shoes
I'm not in ballet, but I have a friend who was and they put her in pointe shoes at 8 and she's had surgery on both feet before 18 because the growth plates and bones were so malformed. This is something that should ABSOLUTELY be held off on until they're finished growing
As a dancer, i am so happy to say these comments passed the vibe check. No matter how talented or strong she is, her bones are still developing and this will cause her problems in the future. Its irresponsible. Please do better for the child.
She’s lovely and talented. I hope this is just for a photo shoot because otherwise the adults in her life have failed her terribly. Dancing en pointe that young can cause lifelong knee, hip, ankle, and foot problems, and cut a dancer’s career very short. I’ve seen it happen 😔 This is why we need to have a ballet & pointe instructor certification system in the USA.
@@DeniMunchUm, no one was talking about having a chest or not. Her face, height etc, shes probably not ready. Maybe she is 11, but her body is still developing and that isnt good.
Even people who never danced ballet know. The only meeting point with ballet is that I went to the London national ballet and was asked if I dance as I was there with a former caretaker that just said hello. I didn’t and I still don’t.
I'm a ballerina and i have been for 10 years and she is REALLY not the right age. I'm 19 and i strongly agree with the people saying she's not old enough, she looks about 9 and the most preferred age to start pointe is 12 - 14 so her feet are still developing and if she continues she will and can get critical injuries.
As somebody who is (almost!) en pointe, I can say that technique is important for pointe shoes, but strength matters more. No matter how skilled this dancer is, she needs more time to gain ankle and foot strength. Unless she is cleared by a medical professional who knows what they’re doing. If not, she could extremely injure herself and may not be able to dance again.
@@anniejuan1817 yep, it was painful to be the first one in my friend group to be technically ready but the last one to be physically ready. But as an adult now I understand:)
Nooooo!! As a ballet teacher, it doesn't matter if she's naturally gifted and "good for her age" as it seems... She doesn't have the bone structure for that yet!!! This is so irresponsible.
Why is her shoes tied on the side but when this channel does pointe shoes challenge w the dancers theres no area where its tied its just a big loop thats turned and wrapped over their feet and ankles but not this lil girls ??
@@jasminepetal3972 I can’t guarantee this is why, but in my studio at least you can get the elastic ribbon after you’ve had your first pair if you want it.
Bro at my studio we had to go to our doctor first and have them determine if our bones were ready for pointe. It didn’t matter how good you were, if you didn’t get the green light you didn’t go up on pointe, my dance teacher was really strict about that, and for good reason.
I was told by my podiatrist that I couldn’t go on pointe, as my feet were all too wide for the shoes. My dance instructor said I couldn’t continue with ballet without going on pointe. I tried a modern dance class and was told my back was too arched, I wasn’t trying hard enough, how could I say I’d been doing ballet for 7 years! I never went back to dance. If only I had known that both were due to EDS, a connective tissue disorder, I might not have given up.
She looks incredibly young. I just hope the right people are there to hold their guiding hand on her because this seems absolutely too young to be en pointe. I hope she doesn't end up with terrible foot damage💔
Unfortunately anyone who is willing to put a child that young en pointe likely either does not have her safety and proper development at heart, or they are not knowledgeable enough in ballet/pointe to be safely teaching it. Children this young should not be en pointe, and there is no way to speed up the development of her bones and muscles, regardless of her technical skills. I fear the odds she will end up with long lasting injuries are high.
as a ballet dancer, she shouldnt be on pointe, shes too young and isnt ready. Even if she's done dance for a while, it really doesn't matter, it's about strength. 12 is really the good age to start, but I knew teachers that wouldn't let dancers until they were 16. I also knew a girl who started ballet at 14 and went on pointe at around 15-16, because of how strong her stability was and she was amazing. It truly is based off your stability and strength.
Anyone going on pointe at 16 can forget about becoming a professional ballerina. Not unless you’re some phenom and can make up years worth of lost training in a short time. By 16 you should be pre-pro, dancing in a pre-pro program associated w a ballet company, performing corps roles w the company if you’re pursuing becoming a professional ballerina. You wouldn’t even be allowed to audition for summer intensive programs and year round programs if you’re not on pointe!
NOOOOOOO!!! HER GROWTH PLATES ARE STILL DEVELOPING!!! THERE'S A GOD DAMN REASON THERE'S AN AGE MINIMUM FOR POINTE WORK!!! Man, Josephine from The Pointe Shop would pass out if she saw this.
@@user-ti1qe3xl9lshe’s referring to the epiphyseal plates (growth plates) in human bones. They fuse at a certain age when you stop growing. Until they fuse, you can permanently stunt your growth if they’re damaged.
😭😭 Eva is just a photographer for the ballet academy . The academy is actually very good even a girl off dance moms went there. I’m surprised they let her do it
My dream is to wear point shoes and to become a very good ballerina now in 2024 i am 9 years old i will not stop i will never not stop following me dream😊
Don’t ever stop! Just don’t rush into it! Good things come to those who wait. This video is completely unrealistic because her bones aren’t developed enough to go en pointe. This can seriously hurt her. These things take time. so take your time and Im sure I’ll see your name in the news one day
She’s adorable! But no matter how good she is, her bones are still developing, she’s way too young for that :( I’m 13 and I’ve been dancing ballet since I was 3 years and I started poite 2 years ago!! I hope she doesn’t get hurt or anything
Omg I also started dancing ballet when I was 3 years old. Where I dance you have to be 12 to dance with pointe shoes and I just turned 14 and I still haven't been allowed to get one. She in the video is way too young.
I ate, slept and drank ballet for many years and was on point earlier than I should’ve been. At 50+ years old I paid for it. The Doctor Who did surgery on both of my big toes knew it before I ever told him that I danced. I hope there is someone who will Watch out for her and have a discussion with her teacher.
No! Honestly I don’t think she should have pointe shoes unless she has her period. It doesn’t matter how good she is for her age, her bones are still developing.
This is so sad. Because they rushed her to wear pointe shoes, she’ll never get to dance when she’s older. Doesn’t have anything to do with how good she is or how strong she is. Literally it’s her age. It can mess up the way the bones in her feet develop. It’s so heartbreaking to see her dreams of being a ballet dancer stolen from her.
@@sophiecity3202 even then, at 10, your parents are supposed to keep you safe. Yes, even if you REALLY want to. If her parents let her play on the highway and she got hit by a car, surely you wouldn’t say it was okay because she “wanted to”
@@sophiecity3202 I really wanted to wear pointe shoes too as a kid (I mean who doesn't, they're so cool), yet I'm so glad they still made me wait until I was 12 because no matter how much you want it, your bones still have to take their time to develop. Wearing pointe shoes too early is how you get permanent damage
My 11 year old has been at the Houston Ballet Academy for 6 years, with only the very best professionals and teachers, and this is highly frowned upon and advised against. My daughter just got the approval for Demi pointe shoes at the end of last year. They aren’t ready until the growth plates have fused, and that’s between 11-13 years old, and even then they sometimes won’t get the green light for pointe in that age range .
I have one kid, a 4.5 yr old daughter. I just put her in ballet. I learned a lot from your comments as a new mom in the dance world. I’ll be sure to keep her off point until then and I’ll be able to tell what kind of instructors to look for.
She should be at least 13. I was on point at age 10 and I now have bunions from hell and it caused damage to my spine. I am now 47 and I have the joints of an 80 year old and live in constant pain. It literally affected my quality of life. Hang those shoes up for several more years. PLEASE!!!🙏🏻
oh wow ! I started at 8, and before seeing the comments on this video I did not know that was not recommended. I am 23 and I have bunion feet, really bad knees, and I had no idea that could be connected to the pointes ! the whole constant pain thing you're talking about is scary :/ I wish my ballet teacher back then had been more responsible about this
I was on pointe at 14. But I have bunions 🤷🏻♀️ they are so many reasons to have bunions like heredity, hypermobility, age, everyday shoes, just if you are a woman and menopause. Even if you will never wore pointe shoes, you will probably have bunions. It's sad but it's a medical fact
She should not be on pointe that young but bunions are not the reason why. Firstly, I don't care how good her technique may be her ankles are not strong enough. Then there are her growth platelets. Personally I think 12 is the earliest. Maybe 11.
I’ve never done ballet, but both of my older sisters have and I went to every single rehearsal, show, and helped with maintaining their point shoes and I can say that she has not been alive Long enough to train to use point shoes.
As a ballet dancer who has been dancing for over 7 years, I can confirm that she should not be dancing in pointe shoes. She is far too young to be wearing point shoes. It doesn’t matter if she’s well above average in dancing than the others. Her bones are still deloping. Tell me if I’m wrong but I think it’s 11+ that you should be wearing point shoes.
Yup. I think we slide into the first few steps of gradually learning it at 11 if you were in the dance company. But we weren’t allowed to do anything crazy until 12 or 13. I remember wanting to go on pointe so bad and my teacher was like “you can’t do that yet. Stop trying to stand on your toes”.😂
Excellent teacher! There are literally hundreds of tiny bones in the feet and none of them are fully formed until you are at least ten or eleven. Which is why you wait, no matter how strong, gifted or talented. Make sure you find a very good teacher too! Happy dancing
@@user-yg2uy8bc8qshe never said she was proud of it. She is trying to say that her feet is not fully grown and so she cannot go pointe. If she did her feet would be severely damaged and in need of surgery. It’s not a thing to be proud of or a thing to be made fun of.
That’s impressive! I could never start at the age of 2. And it’s fine if your still not on pointe peoples feet’s are different somne grow faster than others.
Oooof 10? 😬 none of the dance studios/schools I attended…not even the dance apparel store I worked at would allow people under the age of 12 to start or be fit to go up en full pointe. The bones and ligaments in their feet just simply aren’t ready for that and permanent damage can and (probably will) be done especially if baby girl falls 🫣 it’s okay to wait a couple years Edit: bro okay, the toe pads don’t even fit her quite right…too big for her tinty feet😥 that’s a sign it’s not quite time yet.
she's very flexible and has tons of potential but it's probably safer to wait until she's older and let her bones fully develop even tho she's really strong
Hoping this is specifically for a photoshoot, and not her actually fitted into shoes at this age. Unless she looks significantly younger than she really is, her body is still growing so much that pointe could damage her bone structure. She may have fantastically strong feet and ankles, but your bones need to be more developed to really go en pointe. She also would likely grow out of the shoes well before they were dead, so it would be very expensive to keep replacing the pointe shoes as her feet continue to grow. For anyone that wasn't aware, you DO NOT EVER, FOR ANY REASON, fit the pointe shoes with "room to grow". You fit the shoe to the foot as it is at the time of the fitting. Pointe shoes aren't cheap. Yes, she looks like she's got good technique, but again, if it's not just for a photoshoot, perfect technique can't fix an underdeveloped dancer going en pointe so young
As a dancer whose been dancing her whole life at one studio I have been thought that girls get on point when they are 12 years or older. That is when we are fully grown but still need maturing. I don’t know how young she is but she just looks to young
For people hating on how shes too young to use them... it doesent matter the age! What matters is if her bones are ready and she is in a good level! And it really seems like it! So stop hating without doing your research. It scares me how humanity gets worse every second 😔
Yeah....no. There's not a pediatrician whose board certified, a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics that would ever clear a 9 year old for pointe. Age DOES matter. For all the reasons that have been listed thousands of times in these comments. Unless she's older than she looks, 10 is the absolute minimum.
I see a whole bunch of comments saying she is too young for pointe shoes bc of a very good reason!! I hope mom reads these. It appears many very good ballerina’s didn’t start out with pointe shoes this young and turned out to be amazing dancers!! Just my two cents.
As a dancer that is in a pre professional ballet company and has been dancing for 7 years I would have to say even tho her feet might be strong that doesn’t mean that her feet are done forming and you can get really injured with pointe shoes
Wait how old is she?? I’ve been doing ballet for about 4 years now, and got my pointe shoes like a year 1/2 ago. Pointe shoes can really damage your feet if you don’t have proper foot strength, so I hope she has strong feet and I bet she’s a beautiful dancer❤️
This is why we need regulatory laws so children have to get signed off by a doctor to go on pointe, and have ongoing supervision of their eating and weight. Just like the laws they put in for runway models, it is for the protection of the young ballerinas so they don't get cheated out of their dreams or run into serious health issues.
Good luck. The USA especially refuses to regulate women lead sports like cheer and dance. If I remember correctly, cheer still isn't considered a sport in the same regulatory ways that other sports are, causing many young girls injury because they aren't trained with as good coaches.
Omg! She is adorable!🥰 I am thirteen and I just stared point and I have been doing ballet a very long time! I hope it doesn’t cause any harm to her bones since they are still developing 😬 you can already tell she is going places😊
or maybe she won’t go places, from starting pointe too early. she could burn out like all these other girls training 30+ hours a week and doing insane things.
This is why at my ballet school they allow you to go on point when you are in ballet 4. “Because that’s when your bones start to lose their developing, so it’s makes it safer. It doesn’t matter if you have flexibility or not. And if you’re 10 turning getting to ballet 4, you will not be allowed on point so you will stay in your ballet level until your 12.”-My ballet school. Edit: I’m in my second year of ballet three so next year I’m going to ballet 4 and if your questioning, I’m in the age group of getting point shoes but until ballet 2 your hold back for other year to improve from the year before that. So that also explains why I’m in my second year of ballet 3.
Harper doesn’t dance or compete in pointe shoes, she technically wouldn’t be allowed I’m pretty sure. I think she uses them just for fun and photoshoots because she’s strong enough for them. I’m pretty sure sometimes she’ll just go en pointe in a rehearsal. She wouldn’t be able to perform in them though
Before reading the comments I knew what all the comments would be :D I also think my ballet teacher should have trained me and fitted me properly at 15 years but she hated me so didn't care lol. Now at 40 I have a pair that fit. Don't know what teacher is authorising this though.
As a dancer, she is WAY too young for pointe. This could cause her some serious injuries because she's still developing. I would say wait till ur ten in the very least.
Gets a dislike - she's not ready for pointe. I've only danced as an amateur adult but even I know a young dancer should not start pointe until they're physically ready
for everybody saying things she shouldn’t she could depending on how long her ballet training has been and how strong her feet are if their not they wouldn’t put her on point😊
She is beautiful and capable but way too young in my opinion. Just because you can doesnt mean you should. No hate just would like to point it out for her health.
In Russia at the Vaganova Academy students begin pointe as young as 8 or 9. The catch is they are already vetted as superior body types before being accepted to the academy. My teacher was from the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. I began pointe at 10. My sister began at 8. I've danced all my life. I'm now 75 and my feet are fine. I still teach.
For people who are worried that shes on points this young it genuinely matters on how strong the person is it doesnt really matter what age as long as the person is ready and is strong enough for points its okay however if there not then i would not recommend going on points but im sure this little girl is ready
her growth plates haven’t fused. she’s a talented dancer but it doesn’t matter how strong and good of a dancer she is. physically it can damage her body.
A lot of people are hating on the fact shes en pointe. She could just be a short dancer. Its not for you to decide what is right for them, especially when your just watching a screen. So dont hate on this girl. She is an absolutely amazing dancer. Best of wishes to her on her pointe journey.
Nobody is hating on this young girl, it is disapproval of the adults in her life who may have okayed this when they shouldn’t have. And she is quite clearly not just short - you can tell by her face, her body, the way her limbs look, she is still very young. I’m a teaacher, I see A LOT of kids. This girl is young.
I've done ballet since I was four and... My dance teacher told us that you are able to use point shoes when you are atleast ten, eleven, or twelve. Not under. It's not safe. Even if there is a guardian around, doesn't mean she's safe and her bones are strong.
I was a dancer from 2 years old! I started pointe when I was around 14 and done it for another 4 years and it was not too late, I learnt quick and had no problems there is no reason to start early
That just means that your instructors and/or guardians want to make sure ur safe and help you! To be honest, I prefer starting pointe at 15 to be safe and be certain ur ready! And I’m sure you are a great dancer! God bless and be safe :)
Don’t be. This girl in the video won’t be able to dance in the future because she will get serious medical issues in the long run. Dancing in point with undeveloped ankles is EXTREMELY dangerous.
