We have a silkie rooster who is a spiritual brother to Brad. We've probably had close to 20 roosters of various breeds over the years and this is by FAR the meanest rooster we've ever had. The saving grace to our silkie is he is so inbred that one of his eyes is kind of turned 90 degrees from how it should be, which makes him horribly inaccurate. He can see everything, he hates everything, he attacks everything, but he can't hit the side of a barn. We would have been sentenced him to the cooking pot a long time ago if he wasn't the most entertaining thing in the yard.
Amazing woman, ive never had a silkie, but I've had many roosters. If you find being attacked wears thin, there is an old teaching tool that has often helped me. When lovely brad attacks you, gently hold him upside down and tucked under your arm until he calms. Then place him on the ground and go about your day. Repeat as necessary, but USUALLY only has to happen 3 or 4 times...although i had one stubborn Cock named Darnell that I carried around while doing chores one-handed for two days before he admitted that I was yard boss. He was a gorgeous boy that eventually lost a battle with an owl hunting long after dawn. He attacked the owl that was going for his hens. That was Darnell. I still miss him.
The technique that I have found that works for me with the silkies is mimicking the dominancy. What I mean is you grab them hold on to their back with one hand and make them basically sit down on the ground with the other hand you grab the back of their head neck area and gently put their beak to the ground and hold it until they submit. I had a Brad, he got broke of that real quick.
My grandmother had a large white rooster named White Cloud. He was very mean. Think Brad on silent mode doing speed. He'd attack anyone within his running distance. You didn't have to do anything. Just sitting there or standing in the yard. He'd cross the yard without a sound and flog you as long and hard as he could until you managed to remove him. He seemed enjoy leaving us bloody. Once he split my grandmother's forearm from her elbow to almost her wrist! One day grandma had enough and met his violence with a bat. She threw his corpse away saying he was just too mean to eat.
You've hit upon an absolutely hilarious take on farm life. Your deadpan delivery and projected sense of hopelessness is a riot. Definitely theater of the absurd.
Brad is my favorite animal on your farm. His crow is absolutely legendary. Irritating and gritty, but legendary. P.S…. I think both Brad and Karen would be generally happier if they were paired off together as life partners. They are soulmates.
I love your problematic animals so much, girl! I mean, sometimes I’m legitimately scared for you & my heart has actually felt broken for you a few times too (it must be incredibly frustrating to give so much to an animal that wants to harm you almost constantly), but you’re just so cute about it & make it so wildly entertaining! ☺️ Thanks for everything you do! I hope this can eventually become your F/T job, in all honesty! You’re really great at making incredibly entertaining videos!
Two suggestions for dealing with your attack tribble ... [1] Wear boots with a big snake's head painted on the side. Sensible birds give snakes a wide berth. Especially big, venomous looking ones. If that fails, then: [2] Wear shoes shaped like Velociraptor feet, so you can fight back. If necessary, fit titanium claws. Just remember ... have you ever seen Brad try to pick a fight with Karen? 😀
I believe Brad might be evil incarnate. Secretly in love with Karen but, Karen won't give Brad the time of day. Poor sad Brad and Karen. Two birds of a feather that truly belong together!
I had a rooster that I had to put down recently because he got so sick and he wasn’t getting better despite an expensive vet bill and the interventions they gave me for him. I was heartbroken. I hatched him and hand reared him. He was lovely. Everyone loved him. Everyone at the vets office cried when we put him down. He’d sit on everyone’s shoulder and just chill. He would challenge me quite a bit but I know that’s because I was always around the hens and they treated me like I was the rooster so I was a threat. I miss him though.
God bless you my dear. You have me laughing hysterically. I'm going through the loss of my husband and facing back surgery and I really need this distraction.
Time doesn't heal all wounds, but it can knock back the pain quite a bit and so can narcotics. Don't go home without narcotics and colace. Sending you prayers for a wounded heart and back.
Think of all the humoral immunity you are getting from Brad! Every bite, inoculating you with like bits of staph, salmonella and e coli. Plus he's good for a leg workout!
As you said, I personally think it’s from his “over in-breeding” from greedy hoomans. It’s obviously a love-hate thing bc he seems quiet w/u snuggling him on your lap?
I know what it’s like being stalked by a pecker head rooster that just wishes death and violence on you every time you exit your house. It genuinely is a terrifying experience.
An old lady friend told me about a rooster who had her pinned in the outhouse when she was a little girl. She said just getting to the outhouse was a daunting experience.
You have the gift of intelligence that makes you versatile with both comedy and teaching; because you make your diligence look effortless. It isn't in Brad to appreciate that
We had a white silkie rooster who was just vicious like Brad but the hens were so docile and sweet and would come and sit on your lap and made up for their uncuddly rooster!
I had two Silkie roosters, both beautiful. One was loud like Brad, but he was sweet. He'd come when I called him and let me carry him like a baby. The other was his best friend. He couldn't crow properly so he was pretty quiet. Anytime I tried to hold him though, he reacted like Brad. He just wanted to bite to snot out of me for holding him. He's made multiple family members bleed. My 12 year old though, he never once bit her or tried to get away from her.
We had them on our farm and the rooster could clear a farmyard in seconds. I hated doing chores because of that feathered fury of death. Mom started sending me down with a spray water bottle. It kept him at a safe distance from me.
Brad reminds me of the old grandpa type that lives down the street (not the end of the street that’s a whole different person 😳 lol) who’s grumpy and grouchy yet you still like the person in hopes one day they change.
I, too,🤣 had a silkie rooster that shared Brad's sentiments. Hilarious video. You are so brave wearing slides by this toe killer - love it, thanks for posting!
After you got “winged” by Brad , you sat and quietly explained Brads personality I thought it was freaking hilarious that you had Brad feathers still scattered in your hair 🐓😂😂🤦🏻♀️
I love your videos. We had a rooster that knew exactly how far you could walk out into the horse lot and he'd be able to run out and kick the living crap out of you before you could get back to the barn or climb a fence. He would even hide so when you looked for him - didn't see him - and thought you were safe to walk out there - he'd still get you! But if you got him in the chicken coop - he was a sweet as a fluffy little kitten. I still have nightmares about him - and I still miss him.
Damn he is so mean! I have a white silkie Roo, His Name is Cotton, and he is the sweetest rooster I have ever had. He comes out of his coop in the morning and dances at my feet🥰😍
Roosters are all different but the more you hold him and give him treats the better chance u have of making him more friendly to you. I know how much time and patience it takes as I have had many boys with this attitude. Good luck and a chicken rooster lover thanks you for your caring of Brad
I love your sense of humor, imagination and ALL the animals. 🥰 I’d share if you didn’t cuss so much, but to each his own. I still enjoy watching‼️I had a pet Bantam when I was a child and he hated everyone in my family except me and his harem of two hens. They took brooms out with them to keep him away from them. I took him places (on a leash) with me and he was a good boy. 😂😂😉🤗 Great memories. Thanks for the chuckles and some outright laughs‼️👍😂👏🏻👏🏻
Omgoodness my mom had a white leghorn rooster we called him foghorn leghorn lol he was exactly like Brad we couldn't go out without being attacked sending hugs and prayers i love this channel
I had a rooster for a few months. He lived in the back yard with my 20 rabbits who are in ten groups of 2. The rabbits would try to fight and the rooster would jump on them to show his disapproval. He was a very cool rooster!
Brad is just a comical mess! You have MANY wonderful animals. Your interaction with them is fantastic. I like the "bad" ones. I can't wait every day to see a new video from you. You and your animals are very lucky to have one another.
Brad reminds me of a few family members that out of no where verbally attack rather than physically attack... great videos.. sadly reminds me what I deal with at home... but live them all..lol
LOVE the way you narrate/talk about the beautiful creatures you take care of. Have been following you for a while & find it hilarious even through a screen... I think Brad tries to scare me more than Karen (thank goodness those chickens are not 6 feet tall)... Love watching your videos.
The animals are very interesting & vital to the program. Amanda is the one that breathes life into the direction and focus for each individual character. There are any number of other similar channels without any further editing, edgy sarcasm/satire, run & gun commentary, with the intelligent use of enhancements. She's her own straight-person Useless Farm is uniquely interesting, funny, calming blah blah blah. I will continue to be entertained but w/insightful flavors. She needs to get a good set of chaps for her dealings with Super Bad Chicken aka. Brad
My silkie was Mr. Fuzzy....I loved him so much..he died fighting for his hens. He was never mean but I've met mean silke roosters since so Mr. Fuzzy was never replaced.
LOL 😂😂 ❤ I haven't had an attack rooster but I did have an attack pigeon. I called him Smackdown. He was a rescue who couldn't be released. He would hit you with the shoulder of his wing. Or peck you. Very entertaining. Thanks for sharing Brad with us. We love ya'll. ❤️
Whenever I had aggressive roosters, I would pretend their aggression was really them wanting affection. So, I would pick them up, put them on their back, and walk around as if I was just carrying around a toddler. I would also pet their face, showing them I wasn't afraid and that, if they kept attacking me, I would just give them more affection. Then they started running away. 😆
I’m so glad that my Silkie (P**** Willow) isn’t the only one who acts similar to Brad. They’re only about 7 months old, but they are no where near as nice as the Cochin (Pearla). They’re my start to my homestead and watching your videos gives me confidence and hope that even if they’re aholes, it’ll all be okay.
Omg reminds me of my silkie boy, *Rutiger* . He's such a jerk but a good boy to his hens. His crow is thankfully only half the volume of Brad's though!
As someone who has owned quite a few chickens in my life. As well as someone who is owned several silkies. Take your flip-flop off and smack the tar out of them when he tries to bite you. Love him. Be sweet and kind to him. Hold him and pet him. And feed him. But whenever he steps out of line. Define that line as some thing not to be crossed.
So all joking aside, I have angry roosters and my trick is to get one of those gardening knee pads with a handle and I just carry it as a buffer between me and them. No one gets hurt and I don't feel like a mean ass. 😕
You're amazing. I hope you never listen to or internalize all the patronizing comments worried for your safety or your ability to handle animals like Karen. It's all BS and you're and badass inspiration.
Honestly, I don’t know how you don’t punt him across the yard, and that is coming from an animal lover who loathes to squish spiders even though I hate them. At least spiders have never actively gone out of their way to harm me unlike Brad. You deserve a medal for your compassion and Brad deserves some jail time for GBH 😂.
