The rounded ones are what I had in Ohio growing up. I am planting an oak next week here. Arbor Day foundation is giving trees away here to try to reduce the urban heat.

Oh, I tried and tried to remove the acorn top . Fail. Until I used my boline. Then the entire thing cracked. Gotta try my first acorn seed tho... They really are yuck! I am going to try this method of cutting off the top. I've only got like 12 acorns , so I'll hopefully not crack those in half.

@@TABG1113 work slowly and steady. These hard red oak acorns are like rocks sometime, so work slowly your way around the seed. Haha, yeah they taste nasty, you have to peel them put them in a net and then water them to get the bitterness out. In medieval times they put these nets in streams for a few days. Then they let them dry and make flour or a coffee substitute with it. Thank you formte reminder. I actually wanted to make flour with them to make oak or acorn cookies.
