Hi, Christine! You've given me a ton of great ideas on how to get a marketing job and I'm working on my Google Ads certification right now and practicing what I'm learning. This portfolio is a great idea! Can you make a video on what it was like when you got the job i.e. your first week, onboarding experience, etc. I'd love to hear what it's like!
Hi Tamera! YAY I'm so happy to hear that this was helpful 😊 I have a video called "Digital Marketer - Day in the Life" that shows what a first day was like working at an agency. There is a schedule in the video that shows what types of meetings I have including office tours, meeting my manager, and attending an AMA with the CEO. Good luck on your journey! 🎉
This is awesome! Simple yet informative. I hope you can create more videos about mock-up campaigns, case studies like this. You don't know how much useful these are for us! Thank you very much!
@@milnguyen7917 Great q! The numbers represent character count in the rows to the right. You can use up to 30 characters per headline in Google Ads and up to 90 characters per description (previous was 80).
Hi Christine! I have an interview for an entry level digital marketing/Google ads job on Monday morning in LA! Will be moving there from San Jose if I get it. Thanks for all the value you’ve given through your videos!
@@growwithchristine yes, I printed out my Google Analytics certificate, as well as two pages of an account build project I made for another company I applied to in the past. Will probably retake my Google ads search certificate tomorrow so I can print that out (it expired) and maybe another PPC spreadsheet project using PMAX and I should be good!
So glad I watched this. I can always present my creative well in a portfolio but I’ve been looking for ways to cover my campaign and strategies. New subbie here. Your videos are great .
This is such an amazing idea! Thank you for sharing this. I recently completed the google digital marketing and e-commerce cert. I will definitely create a mock campaign that I can also add to my portfolio.
Hi Christine, do you have any suggestions on a new brand in the US which is not that localize (not focus on the local market but the whole US)? Because when I'm trying to follow your steps, for example, the campagin one, do I need to use the "scheduling" part?
I'm glad I found this video. Just starting off my career in digital marketing and was really worried about how will I make a digital portfolio with no experience. This video was definitely very helpful ! Thank you 😊
I'm so thrilled cause i already working on my portfolio and I have no ideas about how present i can do marketing campaigns you opened up my mind in a different way thanks alot.
Thank you! So you basically pick a random business as if it's a real client, and provide prospective employers to a link to this Google doc? Do you also add an about section/picture, etc? Also, how did you find this job was it through LinkedIn or a traditional job board?
Yup! You can add an about section if sending it over email, but I usually just explained it to the interviewer. I found my marketing jobs through LinkedIn
Hi there Christine. Thank you so much for this tutorial I really appreciate it. But please I'm currently taking the Foundations of Digital Marketing/E-commerce specialist course on Coursera but I'm having issues trying to structure my portfolio using excel just like you. Do you think I should use my phone or a laptop. And how will I get my class works to my excel sheets so I can compile present them better? Please help 🙏🙏🙏
Hi there! Definitely use a laptop, it will be a lot easier with a bigger screen and a mouse. You can watch an Excel tutorial on RU-vid to learn how to use it. Good luck!
Recently interviewed for a Google Ads Specialist role. Despite a strong portfolio showcasing project knowledge, the interviewer focused solely on hard numbers like budget and ROAS, to understand my capabilities. Since I was unable to provide real-world experience, was rejected due to a knowledge gap, and my portfolio was dismissed. I'm seeking advice on how to address this unexpected challenge and how should I respond in such cases.
Was this for a more advanced role? I’ve never been asked those type of questions unless it was for 5+ years experience roles. I would focus on applying for beginner roles of ~1 year experience
Hi Ashleigh, this interview was before the pandemic so it was in person. However, I would screen share through Zoom or Teams with the hiring manager. It can stay on Excel and you can walk through the tabs easily. Good luck😊
Your content is great. Informative and right to the point 😍👏pls keep it coming ☺️🙏 For somone who's still new to Google ads, would you recommend taking the Google ads search certification first or the Google ads display certification?
Hey. Is broad match modified gone for good? Would you recommend generally choosing phrase and exact match types in most cases? What are your favourite match types?
Hi! Yes, BMM is no longer available as of 07/2021. Existing BMM keywords will behave as if they are phrase keywords. We can no longer create new BMM keywords.
Is it preferred to pick a business that only has one location in the city or it doesn't matter much? Cause i was thinking this will affect the target audience? Cause for example a business with several locations throughout the country will require me to target a wider audience or should i just focus on one location and use a more specific location target like their physical address
Hi there! Great question and yes your thought process is correct. You can choose any business whether local or nationwide. However, targeting will be different in each situation like you stated above in your example. As a beginner, a local business targeting one physical address will be easier
"I followed your steps and created a mock campaign for photography services. However, I have a doubt regarding where to showcase it. Should I make a website using the free domain plan on Wix, or should I purchase a domain and hosting and then create my website? Both Wix and WordPress offer free plans with limitations. Now, what should I do? Please guide me."
Hi Christine, I am new to the digital marketing world and found your channel today. Watched several videos and truly loving your contents - I feel your the "authenticity" of you from your video. and I subscribed. Keep it going! Quick question, you ran Google Ads for this dental company when you were learning. Did they hire you to do that or you just did it without them for the purpose of just to sharpen your PCP skills. If the latter, how did find do analytics without accessing to their website management level. I think this is a very cool hack for newbies and looking forward to know more about that. Thanks.
Hi Steven, thanks for your kind words! :) Great question - I was not hired by the dentist and that is definitely not required. Feel free to use any service based website to build your portfolio. No analytics is required since we are just building out a simple structure based on their services and ad copy.
Hi Christine. Did you present this portfolio as your previous work experience? Because I dont have any experience and I dont know if I put portfolio instead of experience, anyone will even want to interview me.
Hi! I presented this portfolio as an *example* of my work I did while freelancing (even though that experience was just gained from working on my own website). I did not have *any* previous experience from a real digital marketing job either when I got the interview. Let the hiring manager know how excited and willing you are to learn. That is what worked for me. Believe in yourself and your abilities. You got this! :)
Hello Christine! New sub here and i love your content so far! i did have a question on this portfolio...In the Ads tab next to the headlines and descriptions there are numbers. What do these numbers represent?
Hi Christine, ,It looks that you got a lot useful information, I would like to know when ever you do such campaign on chosen industry ,do you have to contact that company or organizations that you choose to work on their websites? or it does not matter? what you have to do if you do not have a website that you can work on?
Hi Adeni! No need to contact the company to make a portfolio. You create a website from Hostgator and Wordpress. I go over this step by step in my course 😊 Link in description
@@growwithchristine Hi Christine , I see that you did a good portfolio , I would like to know about that moment when you had the interview .....Did you show the PORTFOLIO on your Tap or laptop , any Electronic device ? or you show them on printed paper? thanks
This is the only example I have currently. It would be very similar to build. For coaching, look at their website for the different offerings/services and build the ad groups from that. Also, use keywords people will search for. For call center, look at their different products offered such as service, sales, marketing, etc.
Hi Fabric! I presented this in person during the interview (this was before Covid). But putting the link in your resume is a great idea since most interviews are remote now :)
@@growwithchristine Hi Christine! Thank you so much for this video. What would you say to focus on for E-mail marketing? That’s the route I’m looking to take as I like visual beauty and can design websites, use Canva for template and stuffs. Thank you! Subed, liked and will bing watch the other videos as well
Hi! I understand a lot from this video! Thank you from Japan !!! I just would like to know how is this campaign used?? There are a lot of platforms we can place advertisements like search engine, social network platform. I would like to know where this campaign which you explain place for?? Sorry for my English😭 I just start to learn digital marketing and looking for some internship in digital marketing. your video helps me a lot!! Thank you!!
Hi Christine. I have loved your videos, very helpful. I am not having much luck with getting a job though. I have built out my own portfolio site and 2 others as well. Both being running businesses. I have been doing seo with them and have run google ads with collecting the data in Google Analytics. I also have Web development languags behind me. I'm at a loss of why things aren't going well still. I'm not getting interviews, I was considering doing a blog but is this wasted time?
Hi John! I would highly suggest applying to more jobs and tailoring your resume for each position. Getting a job is a numbers game so the more applications, the higher your chances.
Hi there! No, there isn’t a need to let them know since we are just using their website to make an outline of potential ads we would run. To run a digital campaign, I would have to build them out and input ad money into Google Ads to run campaigns for them.
@@growwithchristine One last question if you don’t mind? Roughly how much did your first digital marketing job put a year? Currently going through the course right now and would love to know.
@@xoltama2557 Hi! Your first entry level job in this field will usually pay $30k to $45k. Mine paid around $33k a year. Once you gain around 3-5 months of experience, you can find another role at another company to increase your salary quickly. Hope that helps!
Hi Alex, I was hired at a small start up agency in Hollywood as a digital marketing specialist. My main focus was Google Ads, but I also worked on Facebook Ads, Instagram ads, and SEO. During my interview, I printed this out and added it in a portfolio binder and walked the hiring manager through this campaign build. Let me know if you have any other ques :)
Coo! So did you actually run the campaign, did all the work for free for this practice, and spent all that money OR it was done just to show that you would know how you would do it in real life if given the opportunity??
Hi Christine, I have a question. I heard that some employers also ask for your MCC when applying for a ppc position. What does that mean exactly? I google it and it says My Client Center which I assume is a google ads manager tool. But how do we show this to our employer? Is it also something like a portfolio?
Hi Leon, Never heard of an employer asking for this personal info. Not everyone has or even sets up a personal Google MCC (which is basically your ID for your Google Ads account.)
The blue highlighted numbers are the character count. Only 30 characters are allowed for each headline and only 90 characters are allowed for each description.
