From the archives of www.transdiffus... An HTV News package about how they've won their franchise back in 1991 - quite even-handed, considering. With grateful thanks to Adrian Ruck.
Presumably HTV was named after its founder Lord Harlech, rather than town of the same name? The excellent aerial logo was ditched to mark the start of the new franchise period. I’m struggling to think of any major contributions they made to the ITV Network since Robin of Sherwood in the 80s.
Here a a question if HTV lost it's franchise would it have done what their predecessors Television Wales and the West have done i.e. Go off air Months before their contract was up?
The quality from 1993 went significantly downhill. Wales understandably had slightly more of the funding but in the west, the news and other local programming was run on a shoestring and paled in comparison to the new shiny offerings from the new and/or bigger regions. The main news studio consisted of a light shone on a painted sign! 😂 They really let the viewers down.
Weren't they millions of pounds in debt long before they bid so stupidly high. Why didn't the ITC take that into account and let the next bidder take over.
