I agree with you that the top 2 contenders ae M Jacobs and H Slimane. I think Jacobs would be a better pick for ladies' wear, however Slimane would be the right man for creating a Chanel menswear line. Either way, I think that Chanel sakes drivers are their fragrances and cosmetics range, followed by leather goods.

Marc Jacobs or Sara.B would be very interesting to see their designs for Chanel 🤩

It’s really good & it’s about time for chanel to change !! Chanel need to update for new century with the combination of Chanel authentic tradition style .. i think Virginie play to safe & too much repeating from Lagerfeld …. Yes I’m expecting for someone who dare to break it with the new modern century classic of Coco mademoiselle …🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️

Whoever they select will be interesting. I think they need someone who is truly creative and move fashion forward. I think the description of Virginie as a caretaker of the brand is very apt. She didn’t hurt the brand, but it’s Chanel. Their designs need to be pushing fashion forward, and I don’t think that is her forte. I think the era of pulling from the archives needs to be paused for awhile. Perhaps because I’m older, but I’m tire of the 90’s and Y2K reinterpretations. I lived through those fashion eras, I’m tired of it.

I am glad to hear the news. Yes, Chahnel is boring. All they have been doing is to produce the same old bag with lower quality materials and jacking up the price every 6 - 12 months. There’s nothing wrong to keep producing the classic style, but please maintain the high quality. Don’t take away the 24k plated gold hardware, perfect stitching, and durable lamb skin

I said this over on Jessiestyle’s video, but I cackled at the thought of Marc Jacobs taking over and slapping "The Classic 11.12 Bag" wording on the classic flap bag lol and so on/so forth for all the other Chanel bags

I like Virginie Viard's designs. I thought they were very wearable and brought back some of the original looks of Chanel back to the house. But people have such high expectations of a big house like Chanel, and high fashion especially couture is a high stakes game of who can be more outrageous. It's unfortunate that she's leaving only after five years at the head, but three decades is a long time to be attached with a single brand so I'm sure Virginie herself is also looking to move on to something new. I hope that whatever she does next will be as rewarding as the time she spent at Chanel.
@hellocatwalkcity

Yes pressure is on, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she was relieved. I wonder if Virginie will retire or move on to something else. It’ll be interesting to see.
@ratgirl13
@ratgirl13 4 месяца назад
Maybe, she was just holding the post waiting for the time when she could step down-keeping it alive, but just barely-maybe, not up to the task and thinking well-no harm, no foul. Is she sad about stepping down, or relieved? She could have been given the title and job and not really wanted it? I’m just speculating here, but she seemed to have played it safe. Good luck to whomever takes her place, it’s not an easy job to keep a brand alive just beyond its name when the world expects the wow factor to always be a constant thing.
@hellocatwalkcity

Great point. I do wonder if she felt compelled to take the reins from Karl out of sheer respect for him. She was his apprentice afterall. Her motto certainly seems to have been to keep Karl’s legacy alive vs making her own mark on the brand. If so, I can understand this on a human level.

@@hellocatwalkcity Thank you. As an introvert I always thought “Isn’t there someone else you can give the assignment/job other than me?” When one of my bosses wanted to promote me to supervisor or for me to take on an assignment that needed a front man to breathe new life into the business doings. I don’t know her personally, but feel that maybe she was there and his apprentice, but not prepared to take on the role then resigned to doing it for a time? Thank you for the conversation, I’m new to your channel and enjoy the content. Cheers!

You have to produce clothes people can wear and will actually buy. It's all about the bottom line. Virginie designed wearable beautiful clothes that a regular person could wear, not just some 6 foot emanciated model. Haute couture is for the fantasy.

Fantastic job, with a comprehensive round up of Virginia‘s departure and the history of the brand’s designers. I agree, Virginia is not leaving a mark on Chanel. She continued Karl’s vision in a very quiet, restrained way. I agree with you about Mark Jacobs but what about Tom Ford?
@hellocatwalkcity
@hellocatwalkcity 4 месяца назад
Very quiet and restrained indeed! I wonder if she received that direction from the brand and was told not to get too fancy? Yes, Tom Ford’s name always seem to be swirling as well. One time will tell.

Karl was a great designer. Some designers are better fit for some houses than others. Karl was best for Chanel, He was good for Fendi, While terrible at his own brand name. When virgine came, She had a dificult situation, Change and then being called, this is not Chanel, or "inspire" forever from the same archives. Same happened to Dior and Galliano, They never recuperate from is Era.

Yes in a way, I think it’s quite restrictive to design for a big brand like Chanel. Too much pressure and limitations to keep the core elements. Must be hard.

I’m going to say John Galiano. He’s worked for top French fashion houses Dior & Givenchy. I think Coco Chanel would approve of him, for the wrong reasons, but I still think he has the right aesthetic for the brand.

Can the industry stop recycling the same 5 designers over and over again and bring to fashion someone relatively unknown, that’s innovative. It also shouldn’t be about who Karl would pick; there’s no way to know that and times have changed. Fashion should to take bold leaps when it can; that’s ultimately what Coco did when she freed women from corsets and stiff skirts and created sailor skirts and flowing wide leg pants for women back in 1920s. So picking an old school, tried and true type to lead Chanel would be doing it a disservice. All of the names floated for that job are a great in their way, but not right for this moment for Chanel.

Not meant to be negative, just highlighting the mixed reviews over the years. Clearly, she has talent and wouldn’t have been in the role all this time otherwise. Afterall, she did train under Karl. But as you can see, lots of people are glad she’s out while others are disappointed. Either way, her departure is creating a void at Chanel that will be interesting to see how they fill.

one rumor is jeremy scott. i wasn't expecting this tbh. i've not paid attention to ready to wear, but some of it has been kinda odd. also it feels like chanel has so many collections. also i know there's rich young people, but chanel ready to wear is honestly so expensive in comparison to miu miu (which is a bit hit with younger customers) that i can't imagine that helped either.
