Very good video Tony, with practical and simple info about how to get from Lisbon to Porto, excellent. You´ve only missed that Porto has a very good Metro system that you can take directly outside Campanhã train station at...Campanhã Metro station !! The Metro 9 lines take you directly downtown and around the city metropolitan area including the Porto international airport, the seaside areas of Porto and Matosinhos, etc, and even to the resort nearby cities of Vila do Conde an Povoa Varzim. Important to mention on a future video. Anyway and again you´re doing a great job, keep on.

All your Lisbon and Porto videos are SO helpful! Thank you. I have a question regarding luggage size for the overhead storage on the InterCity trains. We will be traveling with three suitcases, one of which is large and doesn't fit into an airplane overhead storage. Is there size limits on the trains for luggage storage? If a suitcase doesn't fit overhead (and clearly it won't fit under the seat) is there additional space somewhere in the carriage? Thanks in advance for any guidance. (We looked at the FAQs on the Comboios de Portugal website but couldn't find an answer to this specific question.)
@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal 6 месяцев назад
Hi Elle, you should check the CP baggage rules here: www.cp.pt/passageiros/en/how-to-travel/Useful-information/luggage-transport There is room for large suitcases on one end of the carriages, but on the fast trains you are only allowed to board with just the one piece, any additional piece of luggage is considered as excess baggage. All the very best to you!

Is it possible to buy physical tickets for trains in Porto directly at the train station without having to sign up for an account with the comboios service? Or is it necessary to go to the website/app and buy an e ticket to be able to board the train?

You should be able to, you will pay the full price and might not find seats for the train you want.

Hi Tony, thank you for the fantastic videos! We are arriving in Lisbon on Nov 5/23 and need to take a train to Porto that day. We will return to Lisbon on the 9th for the rest of our trip. On CP website I tried to purchase from Oriente (since close to airport) to Campanha and then for return from Campanha to Santa Apolonia as our rental is downtown Lisbon but cannot on the site. Is it best to buy the tickets at Oriente when we arrive and have the return trip specified to Santa Apolonia? Do you recommend buying tickets day of? Thanks in advance! -David
@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal 8 месяцев назад
Hi David, yes, you are unlikely to be able to buy an open jaw ticket at CP website. You could buy the tickets once in Lisbon, but you would give up on discounted prices (you would pay the full fares) and you risk not finding tickets for the train you want. Why don't you buy two separate one-way tickets in advance?

Hi Tony, thank you for your advice above, it worked. Another question, we are travelling on an AP train. I saw somewhere for larger luggage placed on the shared baggage rack of the train car that you can pay to use a cable on the rack to secure luggage. Can you confirm this is correct and do you know the cost? Can we bring our own cable and lock in case I am incorrect about this train supplied cable? Thanks again!

My itinerary will be from Santiago de Compostela to Lisbon. It looks like I have to take three trains: Santiago de Compostela to Vigo, Vigo to Porto, and Porto to Lisbon.
