I really appreciate your videos, they're so helpful and specific! Just wanted to let you know the link above is not for your budget hotel video. Not sure if you're still reading these comments, but do you know if there's something going on in Barcelona from October 22-26? Rates are much higher than the weekend and many of the hotels are sold our for those dates. We're planning to be there from the 24th to the 29th for our first visit.
Yay! So happy our hotel barrio made it to your list! 🤣 picking a hotel is probably the hardest decision - we selected Seventy Barcelona which is in La Vila De Grácia! Can’t wait
Hi Tony! My wife and I have watched dozens of your videos in preparation for our one month traveling in Spain. Thanks very much for all the info you present! Can you comment on the hotels: chic&basic Reding in Barcelona and Holtel Alcázar in Sevilla? ¡Muchas gracias!
Hi Dave, on the issue of the present video, the location of Chic&Basic Reding is excellent for tourism in Barcelona. See our advice for Seville here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-peq4-XhscwI.html
Hello Tony and tanks a million for all the videos and precious content you are sharing with us ! I want to ask how would i know if a hotel is on the Zone 01 of the metro ?
Hi Tony. We will be staying in Barcelona for 3 nights pre cruise June 2025 and have booked the H10 Casanova. What are your thoughts about the hotel and neighbourhood. Love your videos ❤
I have now watched about 20+ of your videos. You do a superb job of providing the information I seek in a highly organized, but not rigid, way. Your photography is excellent as well. I wonder if you have opinions about using AirBnB in Spain. I've used it very happily in the US and Norway.
Thank you for your kind words, James. Our two cents: a substantial part of AirBnb flats in the tourist cities of Spain are in the hand of foreign capital through investment funds. Where you had a local resident before now you have an empty flat during most months of the year (for the investor it pays to have the flat closed most of the year, they recover the investment with 3 or 4 months of tourist rentals). Lifelong local residents were forced to leave and relocate to the outskirts of the cities. Local shops are closing down and being replaced by souvenir shops. The process of urban degradation in places like the Gothic Quarter in Barcelona is probably irreversible, but many of us would like to prevent it from spreading to many other areas. As a traveler, as a tourist, I will do everything I can to avoid that my actions have a negative impact in the lives of the people of the places I visit. And Airbnb has contributed immensely to the housing shortage in the tourist cities of Spain, the displacement of locals and the disruption in residential neighborhoods unlucky to have gained "Airbnb" neighbors. On top of that, there are many regulations in place limiting short-term rentals through the platforms. In a substantial number of cases, they are completely illegal.
@@AEngineerDU thanks for understanding. Locals can no longer afford to live in the city centres due mostly, but not exclusively, to the activities of AirBnb.
Love your videos. Very helpful. I am looking at a week in Barcelona in 2025 the end of April/beginning of May. It's a 2 bedroom apartment very close to the Sants Station. Is this a good area? Gracias.
LOVE LOVE LOVE your channel. Tony, your videos are so helpful. Would you recommend either of these hotels? Hotel Concordia and/or Hotel Europark. Thanks in advance for your help.
Thanks for your words, PW. We have already stayed at Hotel Europark, it is located in a fine region of Barcelona. Hotel Concordia is in the Paral.lel, where quite a few of theaters are still operating. The address is not as central as Europark's, but it is extremely well communicated (both by metro and bus). In fact, we have just stayed a few meters away from Hotel Concordia, it is a lively region we love. All the best.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thank you Tony. I actually ended up booking Hotel Balmoral. This is for after my cruise. Still looking for a place in Sants Monjuic that you suggested for before my cruise. Hi, going to spend a week in Spain. I have 3 options below, need some advice. Which hotel is easier ,convenient and safe ? 1. NH collection Barcelona Gran Hotel Calderon 2. Nobu Hotel Barcelona 3. Radisson Blue 1882 Hotel Thanks a lot 😘 thanks for the effort making the video, very useful.
Hello again, Sue, the best location, by far, is that of your first choice, hotel NH Collection Barcelona Gran Hotel Calderón. Nobu is quite nice but it's not in the centre of Barcelona. All the best!
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal thanks for your reply, I'm considering Renaissance Barcelona as well... May I ask if stay in NH hotel, necessary to get the Hola travel card? Have generally 5 full days there, will plan one day to Sitges or Girona.. As I'm travel alone, bit worry 😆
@@xixi0708 if you choose either the Gran Hotel Calderón or Renaissance Barcelona you will get a splendid location that will allow you to do most visits on foot. Hi, it's in an industrial area near the airport. You will need to get a local bus to go in and out of the hotel, as it is quite far from the metro and the train.
Thank you for all of your videos! Unfortunately I booked a room before watching the videos and booked at Putxet by gaiarooms. We would love your thoughts on that?I made the reservation according to the place that the conference is taking place (Museu de la Ciència CosmoCaixa). Thank you!!
Anna, if you are attending a conference at the CosmoCaixa it can be a good choice, though you will still need to get a bus to get closer to the museum.
Hi Tony ,highly appreciate your effort to help us tourists with useful info . I'll be situated in Hotel Sagrada Familia .Would you be so kind and tell me in short about hotel? Is it far to get to the Sants station from this area? Thanks in advance.
Any thoughts of the safety of the gothic quarter, near the Catedral de Barcelona, at night? We are considering staying there but aren't sure about safety and restaurants/bars options. Thanks in advance!
Hi Matt, in terms of safety, no difference from other neighborhoods in the centre of Barcelona. It's the most touristy region of the city. Quite safe but for the care you need to take all the time in Barcelona against pick-pockets.
Hi Dastan, you're welcome! The hotel is in the Paral.lel district, a very lively neighborhood of Barcelona. While not far from most tourist attractions, you will need the metro or the buses to go places. But the hotel is very well connected to other parts of Barcelona.
Hi! I had to postpone our trip (twice actually!) due to Covid. Originally we were staying at Hotel Rec, but now want to be near Passeig de Gracia. So I have narrowed it down to three choices and would love your opinion. Hotel Denit, Hotel Pratik Essens, and Hotel Catalonia Passeig de Gracia. Thank you in advance!!
Hello there. Hotel Denit is actually within the Gothic Quarter, on a very narrow street. In terms of location, both the Pratik Essens and the Catalonia Passeig de Gràcia are perfect. Essence is a small 2* boutique hotel while the Catalonia hotel is a 4* + hotel, which means a higher standard of service. I am planning a 2 week trip to Spain this coming November, I am thinking of staying at BCNStop Sagrada familia hotel. Is this location good? I am travelling with my husband and 2 kids. Thanks!
That hotel is right next to the beautiful Hospital de Sant Pau. Nice area but it's not central, you will need to take the bus or the metro on a daily basis to go places. If you are fine with that and the hotel rates are good, it can be an option.

Hi Tony! I enjoy watching all your videos. We are planning a trip to Spain and i wanted your opinion about Ayre Hotel Gran Via, and Barcelo Sants - from point of tourism.
Hi Aditya, both hotels are geared towards business guests. They have a good standard. They are not central, Barceló Sants is on top of the railway station with excellent transport connections to many places in Barcelona. It has a futuristic design which we find quite cool. All the best.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Many thanks for the prompt reply. Myself and my wife are visiting as tourists. So I am looking for alternatives. What is your opinion about Hotel Atlantis? The reviews and the prices seem to be quite ok considering that it is quite close to the tourist hub. Please let me know. Thanks.
It is not a design hotel, it's a bit oldish, but the location is excellent, our only word of warning would be that is in a street with heavy traffic all the day long, so look for specific comments regarding the acoustic isolation of the rooms. If you are happy with the way the rooms look in Booking www.booking.com/hotel/es/atlantis.es.html?aid=359492 you can go ahead and book the hotel!

Hello Tony from Vancouver, Canada! We love your videos, very helpful! We are coming to Barcelona for a week during New Years Eve and are wondering if Hotel Colon is a good choice? Also any suggestions for New Years Eve? Thank you very much! Besos 😉
Hola Dora, be very welcome to the channel! Hotel Colón has an excellent location, right in front of the cathedral. It doesn't have a metro station nearby, but within a 10 minute (on foot) radius you have access to several useful metro lines. You will be able to visit on foot all the neighbourhoods that form part of the old city. The Passeig the Gràcia is not that far either. As for the New Years Eve, there's usually a big celebration right in front of the Magic Fountain in Montjuïc. But it was cancelled last year due to the pandemic. We don't know yet whether it will return this year. You'll have to wait and see. If you want, give us a shout in December and we'll check that out for you. ¡Un abrazo!
Hi Tony, Hola, thanks for such informative videos....can I check what do you think about Radisson Blu 1882 Hotel. It is a little off from Vila de Gracia but there are a couple of metro stations nearby, would you think this location may be a little off, thank you.
Hi there, it's quite close to the Sagrada Família, which means it's quite a long way from most tourists sights in Barcelona. If the price was very good, it can be an option, for as long as you are aware you will be using the metro or the buses on a daily basis.

Hi Krissi. Your first three choices are within the areas we recommend in the video, the first one in Sant Antoni, the second and third in the Eixample. Novotel Barcelona City is quite far from the center of the city. If your budget allows for it, we would choose among the first three. All the best.

I was looking at an apartment in Barceloneta for three nights. Can you explain why you immediately dismissed Barceloneta as a poor choice for tourists?
La Barceloneta was a traditional neighborhood that has been devastated by the tourist invasion of the last few years. Many investors have bought apartments for tourists rentals while locals have had to flee the neighborhood. La Barceloneta has become a symbol of what tourism shouldn't be.

@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thank you for the quick reply! It's a problem indeed that Barcelona being so popular, has driven up unsustainable tourism in the city. Supporting sustainable tourism and local businesses are so important to keep Barcelona the wonderful city as it is. May I ask you how busy is Barcelona during the current pandemic? If I were to visit in last week of Apr this year, do you think it will be a good time?
@@alanseah5441 in the recent year of so, domestic tourism has experienced something of an extraordinary boom in Spain (I imagine it is the same in other countries around the world). With so many uncertainties associated with international travel, Spaniards decided to travel within Spain. However, Barcelona was the exception. And that is because in pre-pandemic times, only about 10% of tourist arrivals in Barcelona came from other parts of Spain. The vast majority of tourists in Barcelona come from other European countries, from America and from Asia. While European arrivals are taking place, both Americans and Asians haven't made a comeback yet. So Barcelona is kind of quiet right now, hoping for better times. End of April is fine but do check accommodation prices before making arrangements, we believe there are some events taking place that are pushing the prices upwards.
I read the second article abt airbnb. I am confused. Does it mean if we, tourists, stay in airbnb may face any threat from locals, such that airbnb is not a good choice in Barcelona ? Or it’s not a good choice in Spain ?
