Ok, here are my thoughts. I think that Boston should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame without a doubt!! This band is so genuine and their music is timeless!!! Love them all!!!! RIP Brad Delp! Cheers!!

not a doubt in the world. I think they were inducted in 2012, is that not correct?
@longliverocknroll70
@longliverocknroll70 Год назад
@@neilm4445that’s incorrect, I’ve read an article that they’ll likely never be inducted just because of how long Tom Scholz took to make albums’. Also, I heard Delp and Scholz didn’t have the best relationship before Delp died. I wish they were though because they’re a great band.

My neighbor came running to my house with the first Album from Boston, I was drumming 5 yrs, at that time, we couldn't believe our ears, Brad was insane, in March 9th 2007 I was driving to work listening to WAAF and they said Brad Delp has taken his life!, I cried all the way to work, I'll never get over the fact that this man was pushed by Tom Sholtz and had no copyrights to any of Bostons music. Tom Sholtz wouldn't of had the success without Brads voice, He was "Boston".

To answer Joe Michaels, that's Kimberley Dahme on guitar and vocals, a multi-instrumentalist who played bass with Boston before switching to guitar when Tracy Ferrie (formerly of Stryper) joined the band in 2012. She's playing her Retronix R-100 here. Dahme became the first female member of Boston in 2002, sharing vocal duties with Brad Delp and Anthony Cosmo on "Corporate America". Beth Cohen has taken over guitar and vocals on the current tour.

After 43 years (for all you haters, this album came out in 1978 !!!) Boston's music is still rockin' and relevant. He may not have EVH's stage presence... but just like Alex Lifeson (Rush), Tom Scholtz is definitely one of thee most underrated guitarists in the world. Beautiful tone, resonance, chord progressions, solos, and believe it or not... the Tremolo (whammy bar... Patent number: 4285262) most guitarist's use, was designed by him !!! Anyway... haters gotta hate (they make the rest of us work that much harder to prove them wrong) BOSTON-4-Life (and beyond)
@neechee5150
@neechee5150 2 года назад
George McCormick said, "believe it or not... the Tremolo (whammy bar... Patent number: 4285262) most guitarist's use, was designed by him !!! Anyway Response: What a load of crap!!! This is such BS!! Most guitarists who use tremolo's today use a a Floyd Rose or a Floyd Rose variant, the original tremolo design that Leo Fender produced back in the 50's or variants of Leo's design. Another popular tremolo was designed by and/or for Paul Reed Smith. Most of what you think are whammy bar effects on Boston records were done by a pedal that Tom made which at the time was pretty impressive. However, the Digitech Whammy Pedal does it better than Toms design does and it should do better as the Digitech pedal has newer technology. You will have to look long and hard to find pictures of Scholz's Les Paul with anything resembling a whammy bar on it as well. Bigsby, Fender, Floyd Rose, Paul Reed Smith and Musicman have done much more to put whammy bars in the hands of working guitar players over the past 50 plus years than Tom Scholz, and it is NOT even close. Moreover, Leo Fender's tremolo and the Bigsby tail piece have been around since the 50's. Hell even Hendrix and Van Halen used Leo Fenders design. EVH eventually changed to the Floyd Rose patented design due to how stable it is tuning wise.

The singer is actually pretty damn good and is a very talented singer. The Band sounds fantastic and I'm happy to See Tom Scholz up there leading his band. No one is going to be "Brad Delp" just like no one will ever fill the shoes of Steve Perry of Journey. But compared to other singers who have fronted Boston since Brad's death, this guys pretty much nails it. And will be the closest you'll ever come to seeing how it was when Brad fronted Boston. Haters need to lighten up. At least it's bringing the Boston music to a new group of fans that weren't even living when these songs were the soundtracks to our lives.

I think it's important that bands I grew up with from the 70s and early 80s continue their playing to introduce today's youth with what real music was like and how it should be. Musicians that got together, wrote songs and played concerts... Many bands have lost members for one reason or another but the bands legacy should live on. Here it is almost 40 years later and this album still rocks !!! I'm so sad Brad is gone but the new singer kicks ass!!

I was blessed enough to see Brad Delp live on the third stage tour. He was unbelievable as was Tom! It was at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin. It was very unusual because the mix was very quiet compared to any other concert I've been to In fact people had to tell other people to be quiet just so they could hear everything. It was perfectly balanced but very low volume. Still one of the best shows I ever got to see. They had this huge pipe organ that was huge on stage. A memory I will never forget

What about ACDC, Grand Funk,Cactus,Foghat,Uriah Heep etc. I must admit though... this singer is a dam fine replacement and is pretty note perfect. My argument is FOUR guitars?!?!?!?!? Why????? The original band only needed 2? And the blond guitarist at times makes me cringe with his guitar hero antics (OTT at times and out of place). The bassist is a good example of keep it cool. The female guitarist is HOT and I would rather see just her on guitars with Tom, though you can have a guitarist dualling as a keyboardist. Just wish there was more Pro shot full concerts of this band on You Tube and also classic 70s clips besides the DKRC stuff. Good luck to them
@ohger1

You don't understand Boston's unique recording history. In this clip - on stage, are the original lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass player, and keyboard player that played on the first two albums. Also on stage is the primary songwriter for both words and music. Missing is Brad Delp and Sib/Masdea. Gary Pihl (the other guitarist on stage right) has been with Boston since about 1980. The original "band" you probably *didn't* see in the 70s (I did) was put together after the record deal with Tom and Brad were signed, and done so for the album cover and for touring in support of the first album. That touring band you probably didn't see was not on 90% of the first album. The touring band you probably didn't see was not ever on any Boston record contract!

All I'm saying a vocalist can never be replaced. They are the voice of the band. If it weren't for Brad Delp, Steve Perry, Bon Scott, Lou Gramm, and other vocalists. Fans remember the classic songs that fans will never forget and they are timeless. Journey was a pop/fusion band with only Gregg Rolie on vocals. Then they signed Perry and the rest in history. Boston and Journey have not made a solid album since they were there. These classic rock and roll bands have songs that people sing in the audience rockin' and rollin'. Rock and roll will never be the same. I seen them on the Don't Look Back tour Like I said it's the original voice that made these bands who they are today..

Folks, after much video reviewing about Boston..i just realize that No Matter how genius and perfectionist Sir Tom Scholz is..that he's actually a serious Prick and is "probably" one the the biggest reason's that Sir Brad felt he had to "flee the scene" and has had enough...many sensitive musicians like Sir Bradley Delp are like this and no matter how great he could sing and the Soul of an Angel..it was his sensitivity to undue pressure and personal strife that most likely pushed him over the edge??You could tell that he really didn't buy into all this Super Star stuff either!!He was obviously a victim of Over Use and misunderstood Soul that needed Peace of Mind & Quiet BUT also financial security and so he probably felt that he HAD to continue with damned Tom Sholtz to help prop up his finances..remember..the Writer Producer usually gets all the Mother Load of Royalties and hard working vocalist like Bradley just couldn't or didn't want to deal with the reality of being great vocalist & famous but No wealthy as we retiring musicians need to experience like all the Beatles & all the other Internationally huge famous Artist's ...just let that thought sink in for a minute as we haven't walked in his shoes to know just how much personal stress he'd been experiencing but it's obvious that it was all too real??

Although Brad Delp is gone, remember that almost none of these bands even with the lead singer still alive sound very close to the same as they did back in the 70's/80's. Most of those singers are in their 60's now and simply can't hit the same notes. There are a few exceptions, but I've seen quite a few 70's bands in the past 5 years that still have their lead singers around and it's just not the same as the records we remember. Age catches up to their vocals. Just something to remember when comparing substitute singers. The singers just aren't going to sound the same almost 40 years later. Those days have passed and that time has gone. Brad Delp would be 65 if he were alive today, and it's pretty doubtful that he'd still hit the same notes and still sound just like the album from 1978. I sure wish he were still around, but take it easy on the replacements and if anything make it a point to see the Stevie Nicks, Elton Johns, Jeff Lynne's, etc. of the world while we still can.

LOL! There's some truth in there. I've seen almost every tour since 1976 and you're right about Delp. Boston toured with Fran Cosmo to cover the high notes for Brad. I loved Brad but he didn't sound anything like he did through Third Stage. Haters still going to hate but DeCarlo sounds more like young Delp than Delp did in his last 20 years with Boston. . Edit: I saw Dennis DeYoung open for Boston last year and that old fart can still sing! On the same subject, Tommy Shaw and Robin Zander still sound fabulous at their ages.

Some people here outta line up at the 'fact machine' and get some. Boston the band is a sound, not the members. Tommy created the sound when he created the first Boston demo, on which he played all the instruments. Brad Delp was called in shortly after to sing, and that was it. That was the first album...the demo. To talk about the original band is to name Tom Scholz and Brad Delp. That's it. All other members who joined Boston after that moment were sidemen/women who in some cases, stayed a very long time. Boston is a sound, and any current or recent members who did a great job say, in concert, did a great job at recreating the sound of the band Boston.

Morrisey Dunn-- I cite the liner notes from the 2006 Scholz remaster of the 1976 Boston record, various interviews with producer John Boylan, interviews with Barry Goudreau and interviews with Fran Sheehan as my sources. Tom met Barry back in 1970. Barry and Tom played in various bar bands and they played Toms original material which in the process the songs were polished, refined and honed to eventually become the songs that we hear on the 1976 Boston debut album. Tom met Brad between 1970 and 1973, and Tom, Barry and Brad formed a band called Mothers Milk in 1973 where they played, further refined and polished the songs that would eventually be found on the 1976 Boston debut album and the follow up album Dont Look Back. Brad had been singing Tom's original material songs for years before the 1976 Boston record was recorded and along the way Brad helped refine the melodies and the harmonies that eventually became what we hear on the 1976 Boston album. Brad's voice was helping Tom to get exposure, lending Toms music credibility and displaying immense vocal and harmony talent to Toms songs years before Tom ever signed a record deal with Epic. Leading up to and during the recording of the 1976 debut Boston album, the band was still named-Mothers Milk. However, producer John Boylan and engineer John Dewey persuaded Scholz to change the name of the band/project/record to Boston. Barry was not and never has been just a "side man" in terms of Boston and Tom Scholz. Barry even taught Tom various guitar techniques along the way, and they had been in bands together since 1970. Also on the 1976 Boston album ALL of Brads vocals were recorded in a big name fully furnished pro studio by Boylan and Dewey--not by Tom in Toms basement. Toms original acoustic instrument tracks-drums and acoustic guitars were so bad (to use Bolyans word-amateurish) that Boylan had to fly out LA audio engineer Paul Grupp to teach Tom how to mic and record acoustic instruments and then Boylan had Scholz re-record the acoustic instrument tracks before the album could be mixed. Barry Goudreau played rhythm guitar on Foreplay, Long Time and Let me Take You Home. Barry played lead guitar on Long time and Let me Take You Home. All of the drum tracks save one on the 1976 Boston debut album were played by Sib Hashian. Jim Masdea plays drums on Rock and Roll Band. The entire band as pictured on the back of the 1976 Boston record recorded the Song Let Me Take You Home Tonight at a big name pro studio as well. Brad contributed heavily to the arrangements of the songs on the 1976 Boston record and Jim Masdea helped out with the arrangements as well. Tom has a habit of either diminishing or simply leaving out the contributions of others, and as the age old axiom of truth and wisdom says--there is no pancake so thin as to only have one side.

It's interesting. Tom is such a studio perfectionist, it's almost like he's just assembled the "parts" (musicians) he needs to make the live shows sound like the albums. Brad Delp had a wonderful voice and can't be replaced, but I'm not going to sit here and say this sounds bad.

Yes, Brad Delp had an amazing voice. So did Steve Perry of Journey. And yes, they were the greatest. But I get tired of fans whinning about how other lead vocalists don't measure-up, can't compare, it's not Journey or another band without them, blah, blah, blah! Someone always writes about how they saw them back in '79 or 80 something in their heyday. You know, some of us couldn't go to those concerts. We were too young, too broke, serving in the military like me, or whatever. I am thankful those bands just didn't fold-up when they lost those great voices. If they would have listened to some of you, they would have. I got to see Boston, Kansas, Journey and The Doobie Brothers in 2015 and 2017 and those shows were dreams come true. I saw three generations of fans at those shows celebrating the music of my youth. I saw silver-haired guys with their grandchildren on their shoulders rocking. I sat beside two 20 year-olds rocking when they could have been listening to hip-pop, rap-crap B.S. Quitcherdamnbitchin! The show must go on...

+Herman Helmich I'm was just saying, if you are going to criticize a judging from a live performance and especially that song with such an impressive vocal range, is harsh. hitting those notes in the studio and the stage are 2 different beasts. and I'll never grow up. I'll be a 30 year old kid forever. so make me a pb &j sammich. it's the Internet man. lighten up bro

One of my favorite Boston songs, and nicely done. The harmonies sound a little more country than before to me, and the "I" during the chorus remind me an awful lot of how Asia used to sound. All in all though, a real good listen
