This was such a unique reaction, where you have seen Andor first. First time I have seen anyone mourn Melshi, and you were also much more attached to Cassian. Great!

For a lot of us long time fans of the franchise this journey has been a great experience because it allows us to see things from a perspective we will never have, to see the tapestry as it *should* be seen.

Chronological timeline order is actually my personal favorite viewing method for newcomers. I find it so interesting and I believe folks have an easier time following it since you're not skipping all over the place 💖
@YodatheHobbit
@YodatheHobbit 10 месяцев назад
COMPLETELY AGREE! Plus it eliminates any chance for possible unintentional toxic nostalgia that can transfer over when an OT fan introduces a new comer to Star Wars by showing/recommending them the OT first. It nearly ALWAYS creates a bias in the new viewer towards the OT simply because that's the first Star Wars story they experienced. The more people that watch this way the more likely that we can end the silly cycle of film bully abuse of OT fans not liking the PT, then those same fans now saying the PT isn't as bad as the ST, then those same fans will say the ST isn't as bad as the next film series, etc. till the end of time.

@@kaygee2121 Me too. It's soooo fun seeing newcomers experiencing the SW universe in a completely different context than older fans. And I actually think watching it in timeline order makes the Original Trilogy (which are wonderful, but honestly visually dated for many modern viewers) resonate way more. That's why I don't understand hardcore fans' insistence to watch in release order. Yea you lose certain big reveals, but you gain so much too! Timeline order will always be my favorite viewing method.

@@bobogus7559 I have to say I was confused by the timescales etc in Cassian's backstory- because the planet and eemed to indicate the Republic timewise yet the show appears to say that the ship was Empire (and I'm thinking - given Cassian's age at that point - surely that's still Republic) And he's older than six when that's shown
@bobogus7559
@bobogus7559 9 месяцев назад
@@redcardinalist According to his Wookieepedia page, he was born around 33 BBY and was 9 during the flashback scenes on Kenari (putting that at around 24 BBY). It's possible that some major event had happened three years prior, though. Also, the ship was identified in dialogue as belonging to the Republic. The Separatist crisis and the Clone Wars began about 2 years after these flashback scenes. The flashback to the initial Imperial occupation of Ferrix and Clem's death takes place around 18 BBY (interesting detail - the soldiers in that scene were clearly clones, and the unmarked white armor shows that they were serving as the first generation of stormtroopers, before they were phased out and replaced with conscripts). The main show itself takes place during 5-4 BBY.

Also keep in mind that Cassian tends to exaggerate. Remember his story to Luthen when he first boarded Luthen’s ship, which Luthen then immediately called him out on? “You were a cook. You survived because you ran.” Cassian isn’t always honest with his allies.

I'm guessing 6 years old must've been when Cassian and his sister's parents were killed on Kanari by the Republic/Empire's mining disaster. In my opinion that's when it would make sense looking back on his life that he started a long grudge against of them.

Anakin's descent into darkness was well portrayed. Because some Jedi never completely loved him, didn't respect him, didn't trust him, didn't take him seriously and even despised him. As a child before Obi-Wan started teaching him, he was hated and psychologically bullied by other children "Anakin is a slave to his feelings" and that was only because of envy because he was much more gifted and skilled than them. . . .And many other things and sufferings he and his padawan, Ashoka Tano, the Jedi like to cause. Yoda during the Clone Wars, he met the spirit of Darth Bane in Sitt's tomb, which is created by the rule of two. And later in his visions he saw Anakin becoming Darth Vader and didn't do anything about it because I thought it wasn't worth it. Anakin was a slave all his life - Tatuine, Jedi, Love, Dark Side. He became a father figure to Qui-gon Jinn, during his stay in the temple he was psychologically bullied and called by others "Anakin slaves to his own feelings", he lost his mother, the Jedi never married him all the time and without proper evidence he accused Ashoka and caused her to leave and finally he was afraid of losing Padmé. The only and worst support given the events was Palpatine who was a fatherly substitute for Anakin from the beginning. When he used Mace Windu's hand and after killing the Jedi he was already in the dark as the dark side itself showed him to the planet Mortis The One Son. On Mustafar, Padme almost got him from the dark side, but Obi-Wan discovered him and screwed it up. Anakin "Vader" built his castle on Mustafar and thanks to the two sbosobs he tried to revive Padmé but he could not see it due to the fact that Luke and Leya were already born, they were the only ones preventing it with their existence. Too bad he didn't find "Word between Wolrds" on the planet Lothal. He would create an alternate Reality or go through all of history. ;) . . . You have to find out about the lost 20 Jedi like Count Dooku, about the fates of Jedi with the ability to see the future, young apprentices who were not taken by any Jedi masters to learn, who showed little talent for the force and were not shown to the temple which in some cases was quite drastic, . .. Blinded by ego, aronance, pride, absolute help to people and not following the path of forces. Honor to the exceptions and one of the true Jedi was Master Fey. The Jedi and the Fallen Jedi (Sith) have betrayed the memory and message of their common ancestors of the Je'daii Order by their actions and the endless battles of their Civil War. 😊 May the force be with you. And may you lead the force. 🖐️

@@thatnerdtaraIs the Galactic Empire better than the Galactic Republic? It depends on one's point of view. The Galactic Empire as depicted in the Star Wars series was a totalitarian regime that ruled with an iron fist, while the Galactic Republic was a more democratic government. It turns out that both have their flaws and strengths. From a moral point of view, it could be argued that the Galactic Republic is a better system of government, but the military strength and effectiveness of the Empire in maintaining control over its territories may be seen as an advantage by some. Ultimately, it's a matter of personal opinion. But the main reason for the Empire is to be prepared for much worse threats from unexplored areas. --- Crosshair once said, "Republic / Empire, what a difference." You know what he means, Andor Show show us. No one is good or bad. More than most people are Gray, just like in real life. We also saw how "good" Rebel Alliances are. You know, even Luke Skywalker in Star Wars Legends is better than Ghost Squad, and I'm still with the fact that in Seaqual they remade Luke as a character out of all the Egoistic,... Regarding knowledge of the Death Star: 5:04 and 16:05 This was the most secretive and secure project in the Empire. Up until the time where Cassian’s informant tells him of the “planet killer”, and when Galen Erso sends Bodhi the Imperial pilot to Saw Guerrera with his message, neither Saw’s partisan group nor the other Rebel cells (now an actual Alliance in this movie) knew the actual details and full scope of the situation (and even only a select few in the Empire truly knew). There were some episodes with Saw Guerrera in Rebels (those episodes on Geonosis, and the ones where they find a Kyber crystal shipment) where they show him trying to follow up on hints and leads he’s discovered through various means. Saw would likely have known about the Empire using Galen Erso for his knowledge of Kyber crystals and weapons design, thus Saw knew more than the Rebel Alliance, but per this movie and the past shows, he wasn’t on good terms with the other Rebels.

I absolutely LOVE this movie, and have since I first saw it in theaters. I have some "fun facts" about it, as well. The first "fun fact" is that right after watching it in theaters, I immediately hauled ass home to watch A New Hope (a movie that I've seen over 1000 times before) right after it. The two movies are a perfect Double Feature. 1:03 - Lyra was not a Jedi. The idea about her being Force Sensitive was kicked around, but dismissed because "not every movie needs to have THAT for a motivation." The plan (in movie) was for her to take Jyn to a hiding place and wait for Saw, hence "Since Lyra died, yes." Galen knew HE couldn't avoid Krennic's abduction, but he wanted to ensure the safety/freedom of his family. Lyra refused to leave her husband, so she gave Jyn a kyber crystal neckless and told her to "Trust The Force". Then Jyn disobeyed her mother only to see her gunned down and her father taken, before realizing the gravity of the situation. 1:38 - And as Jeremy from CinemaSins pointed out, it was a way cooler toy than the ones we had back in 1979.... 2:15 - Cassian knew that (Temek, I think his name was) would end up cracking under Imperial torture, and reveal what he knew. He also knew that Temek (still using that name, because I think it's correct... but I trust fellow RU-vid commenters to correct me if I'm wrong) couldn't escape the same way Cassian could/did. Remember what "The Buyer" told him.... "Build your exit on the way in." 3:00 - Meet K2-SO.... one of the sassiest droids you'll run into. 6:32 - Yeah.... about that little girl....... 7:37 - Fun Fact: When K2 slaps Cassian..... the actor playing him accidentally connected with the slap. This is why Cassian is covering his face, because he's actually laughing about it. Alan Tudyk (K2-SO) apologized all over himself after the take, and Diego Luna knew it was an accident, so he accepted the apology and they both had a laugh about it later on. But, it was the "best" take of that scene, so it was left in. 8:45 - Call him a jerk if you want to, but he DID do what he could to protect her, as any "adoptive father" would. And let's not sugar-coat that.... he WAS her adoptive father. Saw taught her how to survive, and protected her as best he could. 9:32 - Now, imagine.... if Bor Gullet can scramble the mind of someone telling the TRUTH like this... what would it do to someone actually LYING?! 10:19 - Remember that little girl at 6:32? Yeah... she's not traumatized any more. Also - This was NOT a "Disney change" to the Death Star. The original novelization of Star Wars (before it was "A New Hope") told us that the Death Star had multiple settings for it's primary weapon. (Short version: On a low power setting, it could fire 10 times per day... on maximum power, once per day.) 11:00 - Had they waited for Saw, none of them would have gotten out of there alive, and Saw knew it. That's why he told her to run. Saw was barely mobile by this point anyway, you saw (pun intended) how he walked in the first time... that was the fastest he could move. But if you think about it, Saw died as he lived.... "For the greater good". 12:38 - And there goes K2... dry-snitching on Cassian... 12:50 - Chirrut and Baze.... Best Bromance in Star Wars! 14:36 - The truth is, NEITHER of them are wrong. Jyn is right in that Cassian DID go up there to kill her father... but Cassian isn't lying when he tells her that he disobeyed orders by NOT killing her father. Which brings a line from a movie you haven't seen yet into sharp relief.... remind me to point it out when you get there. (It's in Episode VI) 15:40 - Fun fact: GREAT care was taken in recreating Vader's helmet for this movie, so that it would match the "original" one in A New Hope, for the actor who would don the suit for this movie. 15:52 - Vader doesn't even know he's a dad yet, but he still got "Dad Jokes"... 17:05 - Also, this movie explains why there is no "Rogue One" in "Rogue Squadron" (the squadron Luke forms after A New Hope). There is Rogue Leader, then Rogue Two, Rogue Three, etc..... but "Rogue One" was left out in honour of the original Rogue team. (Okay, it was technically a Ret-Con.... but still..... let's go with it!) 17:43 - No.... that recording was made in secret, and transported by hand through Bodi to Saw. There should be no record of it, as it wasn't "transmitted". 18:11 - Pay attention RIGHT NOW! Once the shot goes to "outside", you can see Chopper (from Rebels) scooting across the left side of the screen. (pause right at 18:14 to see him) Also, when the Rebel Fleet comes out of hyperspace, you can see the Ghost, as well. 19:53 - "I am one with The Force, and The Force is with me." Chirrut keeps "praying" for The Force to guide him. Because, "All is as The Force wills it", the aim of the Death Troopers (the ones in black shooting at him) is muddied a bit. The Force is not only guiding Chirrut, but also helping him achieve his goal of flipping that switch. 22:58 - Fun Fact: GREAT care was taken in reproducing the "card" that the Death Star plans were recorded onto, because the original prop from 1976 had been lost years ago. The only references they had for it were on the original film, but I think they did a great job on that one. 23:04 - Fun Fact: THIS scene was not in the original script, and was shot mere WEEKS before the movie was released. The idea was forwarded that Vader should have "one more Bad-Ass scene" in the movie, the idea was approved, hastily written and filmed. Turns out it was one of the most shocking scenes in all of Star Wars, and became an instant hit among fans. This was Vader at the height of his power and savagery prior to learning that he had a son. 24:00 - Both Leia and Tarkin were CGI versions of the original characters. Carrie Fisher was still alive when this was filmed, so she gave her own approval for it. Peter Cushing's family was highly involved with this, and were treated very respectfully throughout the process. But they DID give their approval for him to be "digitally resurrected" to be in this movie. Story wise, it made sense.... but also, it shows that Lucasfilm were willing to treat the deceased actor with respect. A plus, in my book. I will say, that even in the theater, the CGI looked SLIGHTLY off.... but it didn't "take me out of the movie". I have said it before, and I'll say it again.... Rogue One took me back to being that same 10 year old kid sitting in theaters watching Star Wars in 1977. Especially during the 3rd act. Just like back in 1977, I sat there on the edge of my seat, spine tingling and goosebumps all over the place. Even Episode III didn't pull me in like that, and I love Episode III! Rogue One set the bar for Star Wars movies REAL high, and I don't know if that bar will ever be raised again.
@IggyStardust1967
@IggyStardust1967 10 месяцев назад
Also, this movie is mostly about the "unnamed heroes who sacrifice everything for a cause they believe in". That's why we saw so many of them die off "for the greater good". The people who did "the dirty work" so that the "glory grabbers" could grab the glory of the job done, while simply "thanking those who made it all possible", yet without naming names.

Healing through the force is Canon before and during the old republic it was used, but after a while the Jedi stopped using it because, according to them, it disrupted the very cycle of life. And for example, force healing was used in other similar situations by the Siths, Nightsisters of Dathomir,... For example, even Palpatine used it on Anakin during episode 3 on Mustafar when he found him. And yes, Padmé died of broken heart syndrome. It also exists in real life because after the death of the actress Leya, her mother died of it. ;(

The way he delivered, "I've been in this fight since I was SIX YEARS OLD!" felt so raw and real in a way that you usually don't see in Star Wars. It was so good that even though I think the scene wants us to be 50/50 between the two of them, I really sided with Cassian there (no fault to Felicity Jones, the actress who played Jyn, she did amazing too, but Diego Luna really hit those lines). That's why I was excited when I heard they were making a series about Andor afterwards and that show just took everything to the next level.
@EACru2002
@EACru2002 10 месяцев назад
In retrospect, I think the line about him being in this fight since he was six years old still works if you consider that in Andor, it's implied that some type of ecological accident, or maybe just exploitation of the area of Cassian's original homeplanet caused the death of his parents. That's why he's in a tribe just full of children and there's that one shot of his overlooking a huge valley/ditch with a lot of abandoned mining equipment and machines. Probably the Empire was stealing resources from that planets which lead to the death of his parents at the age of six for him. So that line still makes sense in that the Empire has been mucking over him since he was a child and him just surviving was his fighting back. The irony that Cassian isn't fully aware of when he says that to Jyn is that she herself went through a similar experience at a similar age and he also ran from the calling for a long time before finally embracing it.

I'd go with this except that timewise Cassian's childhood should be pre-Empire. In another words, the opening scene should still be Republic. I'm not certain about this.

24:00 Just an important but special note, Carrie Fisher did in fact get to see this movie after it premiered just before she passed away. She was genuinely surprised when she saw her younger self appear on screen at the end. She had initially stated that she was confused because she didn't remember if that was unused footage that she had filmed back when A New Hope was being made. But, it was reported that she squealed and cheered when Leia appeared. May our General and Princess always rest in peace... and may the Force be with her.

One of the original trilogy doesn’t do is make Vader scary. He appears to be a bad guy who does bad things, but he’s not scary, scary. The utter fear he projects in the final hallway scene elevates his character as the ultimate Star Wars villain. I look forward to A New Hope.

In my opinion Vader in the OT was scary. Bu that's it, he was scary and a lot of things are scary. To a child, coming home from school with bad grades is scary. The potential of loosing your job is scary. Getting a letter from the police is scary. Vader in this however is something else. He's utterly terrifying. Hold your breath because of how scared you are level terrifying.

This is StarWars for adults. Tony Gilroy is amazing. Nothing Disney has put out has even come close to Andor/Rogue One. Gilroy has a way of making you care so much about each and everyone of the characters, even the "villains". This movie is a masterpiece and I'm jealous that you have watched Andor before this, what a cool point of view on the character so many people that watched this then Andor went into Andor thinking he was such a cold and dry character. "Why is everyone dying?" Because its War and Gilroy doesn't abuse plot armor.

It is confirmed in the Star Wars Canon comic Darth Vader when he had his castle built on Mustafar and then in the Vader Immortal vr game. Vader/Anakin tried to revive Padme from the end of episode 3 Revenge of the Sith, but he couldn't see it because Luke and Leya were already born. Because he thought they died in her womb. So when he tried to revive her, he couldn't see them because they were already born. And then when he found out that he had a son, he wanted to be sure Darth Vader 2020 comic period between Star Wars episode 5 and 6. And some time after that, this cinematic Fallen Angel takes place.

@@thatnerdtara Yes quite understandable; I hear the algorithms can be tough, especially until an editor can learn the tricks/methods that others somehow use/get away with. For me it’s always about seeing/hearing/feeling as much of the reactors state of emotional response and comprehension to the material as possible, even if it’s a blurred, muted, and/or “cut away to full screen of reactor” moment (because we’ve seen it before and we know what’s coming even if you can’t show the scene). You did quite an excellent job with your Rogue One reaction so kudos on that.

The little Hammerhead that could is an old, old, OLD design from the Old Republic. Hammerhead frigates, corvettes, cruisers and capital ships have fought Sith and evil empires for thousands of years, only taken out of circulation when Palpatine took over. When I saw it do the characteristic Hammerhead maneuver in live action ("RAMMING SPEED!") I cheered! Also, the projects Jyn sees in the archive are Imperial superweapons from the novels and comics.

The building of the death star was kept a huge secret also, the only hints we get about it in something like... Sadly, everyone dying was the point, as in "A New Hope" you hear of this group, but not much more than that they gave their lives for the Death Star plans(greater good). So when long time fans saw this movie, we all knew were it would lead, by watching things chronologically you'll have slightly different reactions than the masses. I'm an original trilogy fan and not in to much else, that includes the prequels and or the Disney stuff. But this was a quality effort and I wish everything else that is SW, would have put this level of quality put in to it.

At this point Saw has PRETTY much flipped his lid. Between the 20 years of fighting(if he started on Onderon in 20 BBY), his years looking into the issues with Geonosis (Klik Klak drew this station), the time with Bor Gullet, and losing bits of himself in fights(more machine than man) Saw has pretty much sunk as low as one could go without a spice habbit. Hera was on base and we DEFINITELY saw Chopper. Leave it to Anakin to turn OFF his life support just to scare the piss out of the Rebels on Bail's ship
