Need to clean out all that debris/ leaves.That vent box beside fuse unit ( with the holes )has a drain hole that gets blocked . That will cause water intrusion on those cars. Very important!! Good Job and diagnostic path !!

You're absolutely right. I have a w220 2002 S55 AMG and yeah I see a bunch of leaves in that vent. I don't have any water leaks though how would that cause water?? Just curious... I'm about to clean it up

Going to go and see if the module works on my car. Just for information my S500 does not start when it gets cold or in cold weather. I sit and wait and keep turning it and after a while it cranks. This appears to be like something is warming up but Im not sure, Just fyi. Thanks again for the step by step and God bless

3:12 That's an AWESOME troubleshooting tactic: Turn the key to ON position but let go of the key quickly to allow cars computer to continue with "cranking" the ignition on (or turning the car on in other words). That way if it doesn't work it gives us more weight to support our assumption of a possible bad "Crankshaft Position Sensor".

This is called a SAM. I believe there are 3 of them. One in engine, one behind the backseat, and one in trunk. They are NOTORIOUS for getting wet. Gotta close the case to water proof it. The others happen from clogged drain lines. This very well maybe a flood vehicle. Great job diagnosing!

Definitely a flood issue caused by the drains not being maintenance I have the same vehicle with the exact same problem changed out all of my sand modulus now just have to replace the starter as everything on the car works except for no start

Great video bro,I have a 2001 s500 that wont start with the key in the ignition but the engine turns over when i press the starter rely in on the sides.I had a blown bolt on fuse on passenger side at the floor board.Still have the same problem after I changed the bolt on fuse.What do you think it could be ?Thankful for your videos they are very helpful

Josh Gray I drive a 2001 S430. When I put my keys in the ignition, it will not turn. The steering wheel will come down, the dash is lit up with all lights, but refuses to move from the “1” position in the ignition. Furthermore, when I remove the keys, the gauges do not turn off, and I can hear the blower motor running(I think it’s the blower motor). I’ve been disconnecting my battery in between times I’m not messing with the car due to this issue. Also the steering wheel is not locked in place, even though the car is in park and battery disconnected. HELP ME PLEASE!!?? *Update* - I think it may be the ground wire. I got it to start and drive perfectly by messing with the wires, but I can’t replicate what I did.

Astral Auto Repairs After checking all SAM units to no avail, I looked at the footwell on the passenger side. Upon inspection, the plug to the upper most right was loose. When I disconnect it, the volts drop from 14.6 to 13.6 but it starts up and drives perfectly. If I connect it, it goes back to the ignition not working and dash staying on. What is this wire and how do I fix this issue??

I have the same electrical problem. I have a 2000 S430 Benz and the other day I was in&out when I had got ready to turn my key ignition switch on my car wouldn't crank or start. the lights came on inside the car, the power window work. Somehow it wouldn't crank up. My car was working the day after but I had noticed the car acting like it didn't want to start up. Any advice.?

It should be under the seat or in the trunk.

Nice job! I have the exact same car and year. My problem is, I removed the fuse box same side and touched the SAM Module thats connected to it with Hot wire and now wont start or get any ignition. I am going to try to bypass like you did to see if I can get the starter to initiate. Hopefully it works and I will just need to replace the SAM or Relay at best. Thank YOu!!! Wish you lived in Los Angeles, need some help.

Thank you, I actually went right out and bypassed it and the starter turned but the car did not start, so now maybe fuel or pump or pump relay. Touching that sam module really messed things up. I will email you tomorrow if i dont figure it out. Thanks again.

You want to use "electrical parts cleaner" on parts like that. You can get it from your local auto parts store, like Autozone.

My benz same year and model cranks and turns but starts for a second and misfires and shuts off. It sometimes just keeps turning but no start. I already changed the Crank shaft position sensor, new fuel filter and pump, and new rear sam module. Im thinking and hoping it is the catalytic converters causing the problem due to built up pressure causing it to misfire and shut off immediately. Idk we will see im gonna take the cats off and see if it starts. Got for almost free in good condition it was sitting for almost 4 years from the lady i got it from.

A good way to test the cats is to remove the UPSTREAM O2 sensors, and then see how it runs. If it still does the same thing, then it is NOT the cats. Hope this helps.

Hey Jamarlin Nelson, the best thing you can do is open the hood, you will see two points where you can use to jump the car. Use those points, jump the car, then you should be able to open the trunk.

If the car had been driven through standing water and i had engine lock w/ a bent piston rod I was able to drain the engine replace the oil and then the car would start now one month later i attempt to start the vehicle and nothing is turning over (Belt is not turning, just clicking once i turn the key). I'm doing an engine swap because of the bent piston rod, im wondering is there something wrong w/ the starter or could the current engine still block the starter from igniting the engine?

What you want to do is try turning the engine over by hand, place a socket and ratchet at the front, then try to turn the engine. If it turns, then you might want to check the starter, the battery, or the battery terminals. Your car actually ran for a month with a bent rod?

Thank you! I will try this! I did not drive the car consistently just started it up every now and then to make sure everything was running. But i let it sit for a month ( While waiting for a new motor ) and this started. I first thought it was a Battery issue so I bought a new battery and it still persisted with just a "Click" and nothing. I have it on a low amp charger and removed from the vehicle so the battery wont drain ( I'm hoping that's not the issue ). All Interior lights/Dash board/Air/and Stereo still work then i turn the key.

Hey My man! Can you help me out I just bought a 2003 Mercedes S 500 and the driver side seat mirror and window will not operate as well as the rear passenger and right passenger windows will not work I checked to see if there was voltage coming to the driver switch and there is power. Not sure if it's the rear S A M that's going bad or the passenger front seat module that's going bad. HELP!

That is a tricky one. Start by checking the terminals on the battery for tightness and corrosion. Then have the starter checked by your local auto parts store (should be free of charge).

Yes i was going to purchase it because it was in pristine shape and only $1300. But then was told it didn’t run and just by sticking the key in it would automatically try and crank and was told it was just an ignition switch. I looked up the price of ignition switch and it was less than $200 I would think a car lot would fix this minor issue and sell it for more if that’s actually the issue. Thanks for your help in advance I appreciate it

I definitely agree that it is a minor fix, and they should have fixed it to sell the car for more. That alone would throw up a red flag for me because WHAT ELSE is wrong with the car once it does start. Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY from that deal.

Fuses relay just checked mine after towing home yesterday found 20 amp and 7.5 amp fuse shot maybe relay for you check passenger side near green starter relay

Starter relay bypass it’s starts when the relay put back it goes dead.

Try to find a starting system wiring diagram online so you can test the pins to the relay to see which one is not doing it's job.

⭐ Astral Auto Repairs yes it does have a key. I used it to open but it's really hard to make it open. My benz is a 2000 s500 That trunk was working properly but few days ago when I close it it wasn't smooth like normally is. After that didn't open.

Hopefully nothing was in the way of the latch before you closed it, which would cause it to get stuck closed. Try having someone sit on the trunk, while they are on it, put the key in and try to turn it, once you turn it to the position to open it, have them jump off the trunk and see if it opens, hope this helps.

⭐ Astral Auto Repairs It does open with the key when I put a lot of pressure on top of the trunk. But still it's difficult and hard to use the key when I turn it. Does it have a relay the trunk ?

No, but it does have a control module on the left side of the trunk. Check to make sure the switch is working that controls the release of the trunk. Even if none of the electrical components are not working, the trunk should be easy to open with the key.

We are in NC. Once you replaced the CKP sensor, did you clear the codes, and did the same code come back? By the way, what is the code you're getting?
